1938 Chevrolet 1/2 Ton Pickup Truck

100% Complete, solid, rare project with tons of very hard to find parts.

I pulled this truck out a barn in the Texas desert about 3 years ago and brought it with me to sunny SoCal. It is incredibly solid! Some small areas of rust on the running boards, and a couple spots on the fenders, but that's it.
Dry and straight. AND a beautiful set of OEM front fenders goes with it! This is a very straight forward project. I just am backed up with unfinished projects at the moment, so I've decided to find good homes for a couple of them. I'll be listing a '41 Pontiac Streamliner Coupe in the next day or so. If you're anything like me, you know how hard it is to pass up a cool car that you can save! :) Please read the entire description, because this project is special.

I prefer stock vehicles, especially models that typically get beat up or chopped like trucks. You just don't see originals that often anymore. So, my intention was to do a 100 point resto on this one. I've spent the last 2 years gathering OEM and NOS parts to complete this project and make it the finest of the fine. As I said, the body on this truck is great for its age. Rear fenders will need some work, but are useable. Front are too, but I found a nicer original set of fenders that are included in the auction. The hood is workable, but is bent at the tip. Previous owner sprayed it in grey primer before it was put in the barn. Original 216 Stovebolt straight 6, 3 speed trans. Truck was originally Export Blue. Really beautiful color when combined with the red and blue accent stripes on the chrome and chevy bowties.

This is a partial list of the parts that will accompany this truck. I've close to $9,000 in this project:

- Spare set of very, very nice OEM front fenders
- Spare tailgate
- Spare 3 speed trans. from running truck - date code correct for '38
- NOS steering wheel & horn button
- Show quality reproduction data plates
- OEM literature - shop manual, owner's manual, options booklet, commercial paint chips
- 5 OEM '37-'38 only 6-slot wheels (currently mounted with roller tires)
- 4 OEM deluxe hubcaps
- 4 OEM GM trim rings - RARE
- 2 '38 Chevy Deluxe heaters w/defrost - 1 complete, 1 for parts
- 2 OEM Accessory fender mounted parking lights - EXTREMELY RARE
- 2 Complete OEM headlamp assemblies with perfect original Tiltray lenses & new bulbs.
- 2 NOS '38 only truck headlamp stands
- 4 OEM deluxe bumpers - 2 beat up, 2 beautiful with OEM truck specific mouting brackets
- 2 OEM master deluxe bumper gaurds with mounting hardware
- 1 OEM truck bumper crank hole tab
- OEM truck grille, center bar, chin molding, grille emblem
- OEM '38 only truck hood emblem - RARE
- 2 Truck tail light assemblies - red lens with white bowtie: 1 nice OEM, 1 RARE NOS
- UBER RARE '38 Truck only radio with 2 tuners.
- OEM split bench seat springs
- Spare OEM back rest seat springs
- Spare solid bench seat springs
- OEM behind grille center baffle
- Uber Rare OEM front license plate holder - '38 Truck specific
- OEM Driver's door mirror in excellent shape
- 2 Sets of NOS key blanks

All parts are individually boxed, labeled, and ready to move. All receipts for the parts are in hand and go with the project. Not included in this auction, but available to the winner for separate purchase are: 1 OEM GM locking gas cap & 1 pair of rare DMV cleared 1938 California Commercial license plates.

This truck needs a lot of elbow grease, but it will be a stunning work of automotive art when completed. It is sold as-is, where-is with no warranty expressed or implied. It rolls and steers. No brakes, but it stops with the transmission. I do NOT have a title for this vehicle. It will be sold on a BILL OF SALE. Shipping is entirely the responsibility of the winner. I will help load. PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS! Make sure you have your funds in place BEFORE you make an offer. Once your offer is accepted, it's yours. A $500 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit is to be made via PayPal within 48 hours of the auction's close, with the remaining funds to be paid in cash or cashier's check upon pickup. The truck MUST be picked up within 3 weeks of the auction's close, as I have little space to store it. Best of luck!

Mustang, Camaro, Challenger gallop onto USPS pony car postage stamp set

Tue, Jul 19 2022

Some of America's most iconic cars are about to be immortalized on postage stamps. A new set by the U.S. Postal Service will celebrate the the golden era of pony cars, featuring five classic examples of Detroit iron. Each one is beautifully illustrated in oil-on-canvas style, with subjects in motion and sunlight glinting off the chrome, and would add a nice touch to any first-class letter. The pony car segment was all about (relatively) small, sporty alternatives to the full-size land yachts of the 1960s. They typically came equipped with 6-cylinder engines or small-block V8s. The category was named after the Ford Mustang, hence  the name. Some, though, argue that the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched a couple of weeks before the Mustang, is the first. Luckily, the Falcon-based Mustang's distinct styling generated a sales sensation, or we might be calling them fish cars. Appropriately, one of the featured cars is a Mustang. But it's not just any Mustang. The 1969 Boss 302, seen here resplendent in Bright Yellow, was created for the hotly-contested SCCA Trans-Am racing series. One of its main rivals would have been the 1969 Chevy Camaro Z/28, also created specifically for the series, and is included in the set in Fathom Green. Representing Auburn Hills in the set is a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Plum Crazy, while Southfield's American Motors gets a nod with an AMC Javelin in Big Bad Orange. The Mustang's platform cousin, a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7, is portrayed in a gorgeous Burgundy Poly that almost looks incomplete without Neko Case on the hood. It's not the first time the USPS has honored America's rich car culture on its stamps. In 2013, it issues a series of muscle car stamps with the help of Richard Petty. That set featured a 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1970 Chevelle SS, 1970 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda and, of course, a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Another set in 2016 featured classic pickup trucks. Going further back, a 2008 release had chroed and finned automobiles of the 1950s and a 2005 release featured sporty American cars of the same era. The pony car stamps will debut on August 25 at the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento, California in partnership with the American Philatelic Society. The public is free to attend the dedication ceremony, but you must RSVP first. After that, they will be available at local post offices and on line at the USPS store.

Corvette Stingray designer lists five goals of new exterior shape

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

Redesigning an icon is a difficult task, especially when you've got a blank sheet of paper in front of you and the all-new C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is intended to be your final objective.
General Motors has released a new short video featuring Kirk Bennion of the Corvette's exterior design team, talking about the challenges of sculpting Chevrolet's new flagship sports car and the five goals the team had to keep in mind as it worked. In the end, Bennion's team had the pleasure of seeing their hard work take center stage as the Corvette captured the world's eyes at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.

GM isn't liable for punitive damages in ignition switch cases

Wed, Nov 20 2019

NEW YORK — A federal appeals court said General Motors is not liable for punitive damages over accidents that occurred after its 2009 bankruptcy and involved vehicles it produced earlier, including vehicles with faulty ignition switches. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said on Tuesday that the automaker did not agree to contractually assume liability for punitive damages as part of its federally-backed Chapter 11 reorganization. GM filed for bankruptcy in June 2009, and its best assets were transferred to a new Detroit-based company with the same name. The other assets and many liabilities stayed with "Old GM," which is also known as Motors Liquidation Co. Tuesday's 3-0 decision may help GM reduce its ultimate exposure in nationwide litigation over defective ignition switches in several Chevrolet, Pontiac and Saturn models. It is also a defeat for drivers involved in post-bankruptcy accidents, including those who collided with older GM vehicles driven by others, as well as their law firms. The ignition switch defect could cause engine stalls and keep airbags from deploying, and has been linked to 124 deaths. A lawyer for the drivers and their law firms did not immediately respond to requests for comment. GM had no comment. Circuit Judge Dennis Jacobs said GM's agreement to acquire assets "free and clear" of most liabilities excused it from punitive damages claims for Old GM's conduct. He also noted that the judge who oversaw the bankruptcy concluded that the new company could not be liable for claims that the "deeply insolvent" Old GM would never have paid. The decision upheld a May 2018 ruling by U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in Manhattan, who oversees the ignition switch litigation. Drivers have sought a variety of damages in that litigation, including for declining resale values. GM has recalled more than 2.6 million vehicles since 2014 over ignition switch problems. It has also paid more than $2.6 billion in related penalties and settlements, including $900 million to settle a U.S. Department of Justice criminal case. The case is In re: Motors Liquidation Co, 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, No. 18-1940. Government/Legal Chevrolet Pontiac Saturn Safety gm ignition switch
