I am selling my 1986 Monte Carlo SS.  The car is in excellent condition.  It is all original and a true numbers matching super sport.  It has a 5.0 liter 305 cid engine and a 4 speed automatic transmission.  The car runs and drives great.  It has 95,7xx original miles.  I bought the car 2 years ago with the intentions of taking the car apart and do a frame off restoration because of how solid it is and add a larger engine and really beef up the drive train.  I recently decided against doing all that because I want to buy a 69 Charger instead.  I am told I am the third owner of the car.  I have a lot of the original paperwork for the car including original window sticker, receipts, dealer paperwork, etc.  The car has always been garage kept since new.  It has had one repaint since new.  The paint is not perfect but very respectable.  There is maybe 1 spot that the paint is a bit dull but that's it.  Since I've owned the car I had the underside of the car professionally sandblasted (floors and frame) and coated it with an anti-rust coating, installed a new carburetor, gas tank, fuel sending unit, fuel pump, headliner, sun visors, complete flowmaster exhaust system (y-pipe to tail pipes), and I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch more stuff.  Like I said I was planning to meticulously restore the car hence the level of detail I was doing on the car.  The floors and frame are 100% perfect.  You can eat off the underside floorpans.  The body sheet metal is straight.  The car was never in an accident.  There are no holes or anything like that on the body. Anyone who knows these cars knows how hard it is to find one this solid especially how I've protected the underside of the car.  The car has a stock 3.73 ratio positraction rear end.   This is a real nice and clean Monte Carlo SS.  It is not by any means a run of the mill junk rot box monte carlo that you see all over the place.  The car has been off the road for about a year and in a garage.  I occasionally take the car out and run it up and down the driveway.  The only bad thing I can say about the car is there is a small about 1 inch tear in the bottom side driver seat vinyl and the tires are a bit dry from not being driven much.  I keep the seat covers over the seats to protect the actual seats.  The car has never been smoked in either.  Like I said, bid with confidence as this is a very nice car.  I will answer all questions quickly and honestly.  I'm reserving the right to end the auction early as the car is for sale locally as well.  The car comes with no warranty.  Thank you for looking.

2023 Grand National Roadster Show Mega Photo Gallery | Hot rod heaven

Wed, Feb 8 2023

POMONA, Calif. — From an outsider's perspective, it would be easy to assume that the Grand National Roadster Show has always been a Southern California institution. After all, it celebrates the diverse postwar car culture of the region — hot rods, lead sleds, lowriders, and more. However, the show had its roots in NorCal in 1950 when Al Slonaker and his hot rod club showed their custom cars at the Oakland Expo. The GNRS moved to Pomona, California, in 2004. By then it had grown exponentially and seen about a dozen more car customization trends come and go. However, the show and its centerpiece award, the America's Most Beautiful Roadster prize, celebrate what is perhaps the first of those trends: the American hot rod in its purest form. Today, in its 73rd year, the GNRS is the oldest indoor car show in America. Annually it welcomes 500-800 cars, gathered into special themes like Tri-Five Chevys or Volkswagen Bugs. At this year's show, which was last weekend, a special hall was dedicated to pickup trucks built between 1948-98, including mini-trucks, groovy camper bed conversions, and resto-mods.  However, of all the vehicles presented, only nine are eligible for the America's Most Beautiful Roadster award. Winners get their names engraved on a 9-foot-tall perpetual trophy that was, according to The Ultimate Hot Rod Dictionary, the largest in the world when it debuted in 1950. Slonaker chose the word "roadster" initially because "hot rod" bore slightly negative outlaw connotations in 1950. Only American cars built before 1937 of certain body styles — roadsters, roadster pickups, phaetons, touring cars — are eligible, and they cannot have roll-down side windows.  Cars in the running for the cup cannot have been shown anywhere else before their debut at the GNRS.  Contestants for this accolade essentially build their cars to the a platonic ideal of a hot rod. This year the honors went to Jack Chisenhall of San Antonio, Texas, for his "Champ Deuce," a 1932 Ford Roadster. It's exactly what you picture when you think of a hot rod, but distilled to its absolute essence.  Other standouts included "Green Eyes," a two-tone green 1959 Chevy El Camino  with a heavily metal-flaked bed, "Blue Monday," a 1964 Buick Riviera lowrider, and a personal favorite, "Purple Reign," a purple and black 1951 Mercury. Cars may have started out as tools, but there aren't shows like this filled with custom refrigerators.

China's rise, global restructuring wither GM's Korea division

Wed, Jan 7 2015

An article in the Daily Kanban suggests the sun is setting on GM Korea, and it could already be well into dusk. GM Korea came about when General Motors, along with co-investors SAIC and Suzuki, bought Daewoo Motors from parent company Daewoo Group in 2001; it had a previous tie-up with GM, a joint venture that ended in 1992, although Daewoo cars were based on GM cars until 1996. Over the decade following the purchase, it became such an important part of operations that it was renamed GM Korea in 2011, "to reflect its heightened status in [the] global operations of GM." Just two years later, the printed rumors were that the subsidiary responsible for a fifth of Chevrolet's global production could be shutting down. The division's sales were down almost 21 percent through November of last year, counting domestic South Korean sales, exports, and CKD – Complete Knock Down – products. That makes the labor strife, already an issue for four years, even more acute, reports say the subsidiary will lose $36 million a year if it can't get the job and wage cuts it wants, and government concessions can't make up for the losses. And it gets worse, so head over to Daily Kanban to read the rest of the story.

Stolen '57 Chevy Returned To Owner After 30 Years

Fri, Feb 21 2014

Three decades after it was stolen, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air has been returned to a Northern California man - in better shape than when he originally owned it. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports Ian "Skip" Wilson was shocked to get a call from the California Highway Patrol informing him that his long-lost Chevy was taken off an Australia-bound cargo ship. The 65-year-old says the car has had a lot of work done on it since it disappeared from his Lake County home in 1984. It was returned with a monogrammed interior, 17-inch racing wheels, rack-and-pinion steering and a 350-horsepower V-8 engine. The retired mechanic says the two-door was in sorry shape when he bought it for $375 in 1975 with plans for fixing it up.
