For sale is my 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.  The best way to describe the car is that the pictures really don't do it justice. It's an older restoration that really doesn't show it's age.  I've owned the car since April 2005 and have had 8 years of trouble free ownership.  The car as you see it is pretty much how I bought it on e-bay in 2005.  Stuff I've added to the car since 2005...the CD player; the 8 inch rally wheels and BFG tires; the tilt steering column and 3-spoke steering wheel; the factory guage package that includes tach, and a new clock that actually works and keeps great time; a new steering box with a quicker turn ratio....and the one thing that I think totally makes this car a joy to drive is the 700R4 transmission installed in March 2012.  Adding the 4 speed automatic with true overdrive is just what this car needed and I wish I had done it years ago.  We've seen highway fuel mileage as good as 20mpg running interstate highway @70mph.  I also put new dual exhaust with Flowmasters and chrome SS tips in 2011.  Lots of the normal maint. items are fresh as well, including shocks in 2010 and front brakes just this spring (it got new rear brakes in 2005 and they're still in good shape). 

We've put nearly 18,000 miles on the car since we've owned it and it's never been on a trailer and it's never let us down.  We've done the last 4 Hot Rod Power Tours, so we've had it a long way from home and I wouldn't hesitate to take off anywhere with it now.  It's been to Detroit, MI; Arlington, TX; and Nashville, TN, just to name a few.  It's done a lap at Indy (at parade speed unfortunately) and 3 laps on Iowa Speedway (a little faster there and a lot more fun).  This car is no trailer queen, but it won't embarass you on cruise night or at a local show, and I have the 1st and 2nd place trophies from local shows over the last 8 years to prove it.  It's clean top and bottom.

The good stuff:  350 with a nice streetable cam, Edelbrock intake, Holley carb, and headers.  I don't know a lot of the details because the car was built when I got it...but I do know it runs strong and starts right up.  Bucket seats and console shift all in great shape.  It IS an older restoration so it does have a couple of knicks in the paint, but nothing major that hasn't been covered up with touch-up paint.  If I had to pick on the car....it really needs to have the inside of the trunk repainted.  Also, this car does not have A/C.  Not a problem for me, but I know that can be a big deal for some folks....but don't let that keep you from taking a look anyway.

Extra stuff:  I have the 350 tranny with shift kit (worked just fine when we took it out) and driveshaft that came out  of the car when we put the 700R4 in it that goes with the car....there is also some extra chome that the previous owner had that he sent with the car...the original steering wheel....a new dash pad that I never took the time to have dyed and installed (the one in it has a small split in the speaker grill)....an extra drivers side mirror.  I also have the original window sticker and lots of receipts and a few pictures of the build in progress from the previous owner.

Why am I selling it?  I've gotten that question a lot lately.  Simply put...I got the itch for a new toy so I have to part with this one.  If I could afford to keep it, I would. 

The disclosure stuff....It's a 41 year old car so while I've not had an issue with it, it is obviously being sold as is. I do have the car listed for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.  The mileage listed above is what is showing on the odometer.  I have no idea what the true mileage is.  I must receive a $500 good faith payment in certified funds (cashiers check or wire) within 72 hours of auction close. The only payment I'll accept is cash or cashiers check prior to or at the time the car is picked up.  I will not arrange shipping....that's up to you.   Car must be paid for and picked up within 2 weeks of auction close.

Bentley has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard for reductions of carbon, water use and waste production in manufacturing. The Carbon Trust is an organization that helps groups such as businesses and governments reduce carbon emissions, use of energy and resources, and waste output. From 2011 to 2013, Bentley reduced CO2 emissions by 16 percent per car manufactured, curtailed water use by 35.7 percent, and saw significant waste reductions. Darran Messem of Carbon trust says, "Bentley is clearly passionate about continuing to improve its environmental performance, which is reflected by the fact the company has consistently invested in new technology." Read more in the press release below. Chevrolet is giving 12 Volts to MBAs Across America. The organization will use the range-extended electric cars in its efforts to help MBA students learn from and work with small business owners. As part of the MBAs Across America program's first year, four students drove 8,000 miles to provide entrepreneurs with free business counseling. The program has expanded, and this year, teams of MBAs will use the Volts to travel to 25 cities to offer their services. A professor from the University of Michigan has found fuel cycle analysis to be too flawed to be relied upon for measuring CO2 impacts of transportation fuels. Professor John DeCicco of the university's Energy Institute feels that the flaws in calculating the carbon footprint of liquid fuel production and combustion make such lifecycle analysis impractical. He suggests, instead, to focus to carbon capture. Since capturing CO2 directly from a vehicle is probably never going to happen, DiCicco believes the solution is to capture carbon from the atmosphere in sectors outside of transportation. Says DiCicco, "Research should be ramped up on options for increasing the rate at which CO2 is removed from the atmosphere and on programs to manage and utilize carbon fixed in the biosphere, which offers the best CO2 removal mechanism now at hand. Such strategies can complement measures that control the demand for liquid fuels by reducing travel activity, improving vehicle efficiency and shifting to non-carbon fuels." Nissan Leaf has 2nd-best sales month ever, Chevy Volt does a 2013 repeat [UPDATE]

UPDATE: The official press release says that "Volt [sales were] up 7 percent," but Randy Fox let AutoblogGreen know that this is simply due to a change in the fleet/retail mix between March 2013 and 2014. The actual number sold was exactly the same in the two months. A month ago, Nissan's director of EV sales and marketing, Toby Perry, said he expected to see the Leaf's sales momentum continue into March. It wasn't a big leap, since January and February were slow sales months in 2013 (around 640 each) before a big climb to 2,200 in March. In 2014, the first two months of the year were better (around 1,300 each) but Nissan can still be happy that the Leaf just had the best March ever and its second-highest sales month ever, with 2,507 sold. That's a 12.1 percent increase from 2013 and Perry said in a statement to AutoblogGreen that one reason is all of the buyers who are becoming evangelists for the vehicle. "We've also seen an increase in showroom traffic as we enhanced our marketing presence in March," he said. Nissan pointed to cities like Washington, DC, Raleigh-Durham, NC and urban areas in Texas as strong Leaf markets last month. On the Chevy Volt front, January and February were also slow months in 2014, down roughly half from the 2,000-ish the plug-in hybrid was selling at the end of 2013. For 2014, sales were up slightly from the first two months of the year and Chevy spokesman Randy Fox told AutoblogGreen that the March number was "pretty flat, year-over-year." Even with that warning, we were surprised to see the total come in at 1,478. Why's that? Because the total for March 2013 was ... 1,478. So, yeah, that's pretty steady even if there were 26 selling days in March period this year compared to 27 last year. Corvette Stingray Convertible images mysteriously appear on web, so we add our own

It was inevitable that we'd see the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray topless at some point, but that didn't make us any less interested when a pair of supposedly leaked official images showed up on theautoinsiderblog.com last week. We posted them on our Facebook page, but held off reporting on them here until we could get a little more information.
Those images, which feature a dark red car on a sterile black studio background, supposedly first appeared on the website of diecast model maker Maisto. A Chevrolet spokesman has been reported saying that they are "not official images released by Chevrolet PR," which isn't a denial they're the real deal, but neither is it a confirmation.
Close examination of the photos suggest they could be official shots of the Corvette Stingray Convertible, and while some have doubted their authenticity due to a lack of vents (which were seen on the C7s that debuted in Detroit last week), it could be that the images are of a base model car without the Z51 package that doesn't require the extra venting and cooling.
