1971 Monte Carlo Ss454 Z20. One Of 1919 Built. Same Owner For Last 26 Years. on 2040-cars
Chicago, Illinois, United States
1971 Monte Carlo SS454 Z20 LS5 engine with M40 Turbo 400 transmission, F41 front suspension,12 bolt 3:31 posi rear end. Has load level control (compressor not on car but I do have it), factory a/c, power steering, power brakes, bucket seats with console and factory tach and guage package. I've owned this car since 1988 and it has been my summer cruise night car over the years and it has been a very nice driver but it's time to let it go. Since I have owned the I replaced the CE counter engine with a correct CPD code LS5 engine that has been rebuilt and has less than a 1000 miles on it. The engine in the car is correctly dated to this car and was from a 1971 Chevelle SS454 LS5 car which was built the same week as my car. I have the protecto-plate from that car (see pics. both Protecto plates side by side) and all the components from the CE engine match this engine except the short block. The block in this car is now the correct 3963512 block and the CE was a 3999289 block. I also have most of all the service records for this car along with the original window sticker, build sheet,protecto-plate,owners manual and the original brochure the original owner picked the options for the car when buying new. The car was bought here in Elmhust Illinois at Tom Edwards Chevrolet and was Ziebarted from new. The prvious owner was a snow bird so the car went between Illinois and Texas. The car is very solid however when the car was repainted in 1985 it was prepped poorly and the paint is checked and cracked. The car looks good from 10 feet until you get up close therefore the car will need to be stripped and repainted. The good is you can do this at your own pace. The car is totally ready to drive. The bright work on the car is very nice and you will not have to do any panel replacement. The vinyl top has been replaced and at that time the front and rear glass was pulled and resealed. The back glass on the car leaked so there is some minor rust issues behind the rear wheels but a patch will resolve it. No needed quarter replacement. Overall a very nice solid luxury sport muscle car that you can drive and enjoy and take it to the next level. This is a true Z20 SS454 Monte Carlo Super Sport. Not something someone tossed emblems on to claim it a SS. See NADA Guide below and you will see the opening bid is below average retail. I will accept a $500.00 deposit through Paypal but not the entire payment. All funds for balance will have to be cleared before car and title are released to new owner. NO EXCEPTIONS! If you have any questions please call me at 773 744 5998.Thank you. http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1971/Chevrolet/Monte-Carlo-Super-Sport/2-Door-Hardtop/Values |

Corvette Stingray designer lists five goals of new exterior shape
Fri, 12 Apr 2013Redesigning an icon is a difficult task, especially when you've got a blank sheet of paper in front of you and the all-new C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is intended to be your final objective.
General Motors has released a new short video featuring Kirk Bennion of the Corvette's exterior design team, talking about the challenges of sculpting Chevrolet's new flagship sports car and the five goals the team had to keep in mind as it worked. In the end, Bennion's team had the pleasure of seeing their hard work take center stage as the Corvette captured the world's eyes at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.
GM announces 3 new recalls affecting 1.7M vehicles in North America [w/video]
Mon, Mar 17 2014Still embroiled in the ongoing ignition switch recall, General Motors announced today three more discrete recalls, affecting a grand total of 1,546,900 vehicles in the US. The Detroit News reports that some 1.7 million vehicles are affected overall in North America. The first and largest of the trio of new recalls concerns some 1.18-million Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia crossovers from the 2008-2013 model years, Chevrolet Traverse from 2009-2013 (pictured above) and Saturn Outlook vehicles from 2008-2010. All of the crossover utilities may have an issue with the wiring harness for their seat-mounted side airbags. Apparently, the vehicles are equipped with a Service Air Bag warning light that, if ignored, "will eventually result in the non-deployment of the side impact restraints." Those restraints include the side airbags, a front-center airbag if the vehicle is so equipped and seatbelt pretensioners. Dealers of affected vehicles will be instructed to remove driver and passenger side airbag wiring harness connectors, and then "splice and solder the wires together." The second recall affects 303,000 Chevrolet Express (pictured right) and GMC Savana vans from model years 2009-2014, and with gross vehicle weights under 10,000 pounds. Said vehicles do not comply with a head impact requirement for unrestrained occupants, and will need a reworking of the instrument panel material to be sent back on the road. It doesn't sound as though there's a quick fix for this one, as the GM press release states: "Unsold vehicles have been placed on a stop delivery until development of the solution has been completed and parts are available." Finally, the third recall affects 63,900 Cadillac XTS luxury sedans from model years 2013 and 2014. A brake booster pump may be susceptible to corrosion by way of the relay, potentially causing and electrical short, overheating, melting of plastic components and even engine fires. GM says it is aware of two engine fires in unsold XTS models and two cases of melted parts. Repairs for the issues affecting the XTS have not not mentioned by GM in the release. The Detroit News is also reporting that along with news of the triple-recall, GM is taking a $300-million credit to help pay for the repair costs, and to deal with the ongoing costs associated with the ignition switch recall. In an attempt to explain just what GM has been doing in the face of these very serious issues, newly minted CEO Mary Barra has addressed the issues in a new video.
My year in EVs: 8 electrics that are changing the car industry
Wed, Dec 1 2021The year 2021 will go down as an inflection point in the auto industry’s transition to electric vehicles. It's when many much-anticipated models became reality. No longer sketches or sketchy prototypes, electric vehicles appeared from all corners with everything from the Lucid Air to Ford Mustang Mach-E changing how we think about transportation. I managed to drive a lot of them, and as I went through my notes, I realized IÂ’ve got a mini memoir of the seminal EVs of 2021. HereÂ’s my take on eight of them. Hummer EV Easily the most over-the-top EV I tested this year. The 1,000-hp super truck lived up to the hype with its domineering presence, stupendous power and simply being a reincarnated Hummer. I took it for a short spin on- and off-road at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford, Mich., and was impressed with the airy cabin, removable sky panels and expansive touchscreens. Yes, I crab walked, which felt like steering a pontoon boat, though I can see why it would be useful. Lucid Air Dream Performance The most beautiful sedan I tested all year, EV or otherwise. Unlike the futuristic Mercedes EQS — which is quite attractive — LucidÂ’s car is a blend of mid-century modern interior aesthetics and classic European exterior styling. When I walked up for my test drive, someone who IÂ’m pretty sure was comedian Jon Lovitz was sitting inside and taking it all in. As it sat in the valet of a hotel in a wealthy suburban enclave north of Detroit, the Lucid drew more attention than any of the Mercedes, Cadillacs or Lexus models passing by. The driving experience was enveloping. Starting at $169,000 for the Performance model (reservations are closed), the Lucid I sampled packed 1,111 hp and 471 miles of range. From the precise steering to the comfortable suspension, the dynamics were spot-on. It's a formidable product, and all the more impressive given itÂ’s LucidÂ’s first. Chevy Bolt EV The Bolt was the most pleasant surprise for me. It handled well, offered low-to-the-ground hot hatch dynamics and the steering was dialed-in. Adding a crossover variant for the new generation was a smart play. On a summer morning where I went to a first drive of the Ford Bronco at an off-road course, my hour-long commute in the Bolt was an enjoyable appetizer. The Bolt was also my biggest disappointment due to its extensive recalls for fire risk. Ironically, I had the Bolt in my driveway when the initial recall went out for the previous generation (2017-19).
