SELLER REMARKS

With a bunch of show wins to its credit, this handsome 1965 Chevrolet Malibu SS hardtop shows you what is great about these cars. Great proportions, a handsome bucket seat interior, and a nice balance of performance and function, this is the machine that made your dad fall in love with cars.

Following an extensive restoration a few years ago, this handsome Malibu has travelled a scant 445 miles and it shows. Never intended to be a resto-mod, it instead embraces that car that delighted new car buyers in the mid-60s with its combination of V8 power and family car conservative looks. Of course, the Madeira Maroon paint certainly helps, and on the clean, no-nonsense Malibu sheetmetal, it's an excellent choice. Perhaps as an antidote to the styling excess of the 1950s, the Malibu is simple and almost plain, but the timeless shape makes it a winner with fans, and there are no disappointments here. Good gaps, smooth sheetmetal, and impressive attention to detail explain why it has all those show credits, and the fact that it was restored by a factory tech tells you all you need to know about authenticity. The chrome and stainless trim is restrained but finished to a very high standard, sparkling against the burgundy paint and adding just enough flash to remind you that this isn't just a stripper base model, but a genuine code 138 SS.

A beautiful bucket seat interior, complete with center console, is another highly valuable attribute that works well in the classic Malibu. A few deviations from stock add to the driving pleasure without notably impacting the factory look and for many of them, it'll take an expert to find them all. Perhaps the most obvious is the thick aftermarket steering wheel, but you'll also note a very discreetly installed A/C system under the dash. The factory gauges are in good order, nestled into the shiny instrument panel, along with the original AM radio in the dash. Fortunately, there's also an AM/FM stereo with a 10-disc CD changer hidden out of sight under the passenger's seat with the controls stashed in the glove box for a very cool installation. A trio of auxiliary gauges under the dash have been cleverly installed along with the A/C vents, so no additional holes had to be drilled in the original dash. Even the trunk looks factory fresh, complete with a full-sized bias-ply spare and jack assembly.

The engine was originally a 283, but was beefed up to a visually identical 327 during the restoration and it runs superbly. An open-element air cleaner and the modern A/C compressor are the only real clues that there were any modifications at all, but the Chevy Orange paint and reproduction decals add authenticity. A stock intake and cast iron exhaust manifolds ensure that it runs as designed, and the dual exhaust system reproduces the original, so it has a correct soundtrack to match. The original PowerG;ide 2-speed automatic transmission was retained and highlights a nicely detailed undercarriage that shows off solid originality and some freshened components like the rear end. And it's always cool to see stock hubcaps and 7.35-14 bias-ply whitewalls on a sporting SS, more evidence that the restorer was also a purist.

You just can't restore any car to this level for the asking price, and with the way this Malibu looks and runs, you'll have a hard time resisting its many charms. Call today!

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee teases return with a Countach

Fri, May 29 2015

Unless you have an intense aversion to Jerry Seinfeld, it's hard not to find something to like about his show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. After all, the series combines funny people telling often hilarious stories while riding in ridiculously cool vehicles. The trailer for the sixth season is now online, and based on this tease, this definitely looks worth watching no matter what part of the videos interest you. Of course, it's the automotive portion that really grabs us, and Seinfeld has quite a fleet to showcase for season six. The trailer shows off a Lamborghini Countach, a '57 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible, a classic Volkswagen Beetle in the green and white German Polizei livery, a Morgan, an Aston Martin DB5, and a Ferrari 308. On the more humorous side of things, the guest list at least includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jim Carrey, Steve Harvey, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher and upcoming host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah. Season six of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee premieres on Crackle on Wednesday, June 3, at 11:30 PM ET.

GM sweetens military discount for Buick, Chevy and GMC

Sun, 06 Oct 2013

American servicemen and women interested in a new vehicle from Chevrolet, Buick or GMC now have a bit more incentive to head down to their local dealer, as General Motors has announced plans to improve its military discount program.
The new GM Military Discount Program offers eligible consumers a new Chevy, Buick or GMC at invoice pricing, which in some cases can take very large chunks out of a car's retail price. When factored in with other incentives, most of which are available with the Military Discount, the bargains are thick on the ground for members of the US armed forces.
GM's Retail Sales and Marketing Support general manager, Chuck Thomson, said, "GM has long supported the military and military families, and we hope this simplified and enhanced discount will show our appreciation for their service and help make it easier for them to own one of our great new vehicles." The program is open to all active duty and reserve members in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard and Coast Guard, as well as veterans that have been out of the service for less than a year. Military retirees and their spouses are also eligible for the discount.

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?
