This is a beautiful, smooth cruiser and runs drives and shifts as should be expected.  Of the eight collector cars we owned at one point, this is the one we decided to keep.  It's easy to start, drive and enjoy.  On top of that, you will get 18-20 MPG from a 300+ HP classic.  It has a GM Goodwrench 350 replacement engine with a mild cam for some extra giddyup.  Backed up with a 700R4 automatic overdrive and I believe 2.73 rear gears.  The combination results in low engine and exhaust noise on the highway if you're in the mood.  Otherwise, leave it in 3rd gear and you will be hearing the pleasant tone from the custom Flowmaster exhaust, with it's thrushy sounds.  It sounds like a true musclecar, just as you would expect.  Heads will turn wherever you go and people will ask you to take a closer look.  There are some custom touches that initiate conversations about things people have never seen, like the engine gauges mounted into the dash, and the custom speedometer face.  The paint was professionally done about 6 years ago, as were the seats also.

This car was originally sold from a dealer in the Kansas City area as evidenced by the build sheet which is still under the back seat.  It was originally a Jade/Green combo.  When we had it painted we chose an early 90's GM truck code for the blue, and a pearled black for the racing stripes.  3 coats of clear over the paint really gives it a luster.  Of course we put the cowl hood on since we were going for the SS look, along with all the normal badging and some extra SS's on the wheel hubs.  If you prefer to use Malibu markings, it would be relatively easy to do since all the badges are mounted with silicone and can be peeled off with little effort.

Lots of custom parts under the hood including a Edlebrock electric choke carb, aluminum intake, K&N air cleaner, headers, chrome Chevrolet valve covers with logo paint matching the exterior, and a chrome radiator hold down.  The interior has new seat covers, new carpet, custom mounted engine gauges, hippie gas and dimmer pedals, the 3 hole 12" deep dish steering wheel popular back in the day, Pioneer AM/FM/CD and Pioneer speakers front and back.  It also has a tilt steering wheel and non functioning cruise control from the 70's (mounted on the turn signal lever).  The car was an original air conditioned and I saved the compressor and hoses when I removed it from the car as they were also non functional.  It didn't have a belt on it when I bought the car and I removed the stuff just to make the engine compartment look a little more tidy.  You will get the compressor, bracket and hoses with the car.

We are forced to sell as we just purchased a new home and have no place to store it.  Somebody is going to enjoy this car as much or more than we have.

Chevrolet Captiva looks mildly refreshed and ready for family duty

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

We showed you Chevrolet's major debut yesterday, the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible, but General Motors is making a big push for Bowtie consideration in Europe, so it's also introducing the updated Captiva crossover here at the Geneva Motor Show.
While still based on the same platform as North America's fleet-only Captiva Sport (which is effectively a rebadged Saturn Vue), the Captiva is available in both five- and seven-seat iterations, and it looks far more modern. That's particularly the case with this updated model, which features revamped front- and rear ends that include restyled bumpers, grilles and LED taillamps, among other changes.
As before, the midsize Theta-platform CUV will be available in both front- and all-wheel drive, and is expected to carry a range of four- and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines. Important US programming note: Chevrolet sources tell us that America's Captiva Sport will not receive these updates.

Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Volt CarPlay video, Tesla Supercharger importance

Fri, Feb 5 2016

A video demonstrates Apple CarPlay on the touch display in the next-generation Chevrolet Volt. The Volt's eight-inch (bigger than an iPad Mini) capacitive display is capable of putting Siri and your iPhone apps and right at your fingertips. It's "the best CarPlay display I've seen," says the user in the video. In case you're not in the market for a new Volt, 9to5Mac offers some of its favorite aftermarket CarPlay screens. See the video above, and read more at 9to5Mac. A single Supercharger can make a big difference in the life of a Tesla owner. Teslarati's Electric Jen talks about purchasing a Model S, being assured by both Tesla employees and the map of planned Supercharger sites that one would be built along an important route for her. With the construction being pushed back, it made visiting family tricky. "As if owning such a grand car isn't embarrassing enough, asking for a ride to drop off and pick up said car because you can't make it home without charging really made me feel awkward," she says. "You see, one single charging location can mean the world to some people," Jen adds. Read the whole article at Teslarati. Tesla once had considered creating mobile range extender trailers for the Model S. Elon Musk touched upon the abandoned idea during his visit to Paris. While Tesla ultimately dismissed the concept, Nomadic Power has taken the opportunity to hitch their product onto the Tesla brand. "We are delighted, that Tesla Motors' CEO Elon Musk is thinking about a concept like ours for even more extending the range of the Tesla models," says Nomadic Power's CEO Manfred Baumgaertner. He adds, "This confirms our approach to build a long distance mobility provider for all electric vehicles on the market." If you say so, Baumgaertner. When the batteries have degraded to the point that they're no longer suitable for use on the road, they still have a significant capacity that can be used for other purposes. Still useful for stationary storage, they can be used to support charging sites in order to allow for faster charging. The stationary batteries can charge slowly at the site, but then offer up the juice in a hurry when it's needed for a vehicle. Read more from Renault.
