Paint and body
I stripped the car down prior to bodywork. All bumpers, door handles, trim, and side glass removed. Removed engine to clean front frame, radiator support, control arms, and firewall. This was then primed and painted in base clear black paint. New Goodmark inner fenderwells were sprayed in gloss black single stage. Please keep in mind this was done in my two car garage so the body was not removed for this. The entire frame is not painted. Just the front section to the transmission tunnel area. Its not perfect but does look very nice. Next I reassembled the frontend and reinstalled engine. Then adjusted the fender and hood alignment. All panels line up great and hood opens and shuts correctly with no binding. Trunk lid was removed for prep. I ran out of time to fully prep the bottom of the hood prior to it going to paint shop. Looks good under hood still just not perfectly smooth as I would have liked.
Car was sent to painter afterwards for final blocking and masking. The color I chose is called Havasu blue metallic. It is a factory color from a 2003 Honda Odyssey. It is a very similar color to the original light blue that was applied to these cars and is a very easy to obtain factory car color if future touchup work is ever needed. When i got the car back from paint I fully cut and buffed the paint. All of the trim, bumpers, door handles, etc. were in good enough shape for a driver so all of that was polished and put back on the car. Weatherstripping and all seal gaskets are new. Windows are very smooth and correctly adjusted. No shaking or rattling and seal up nicely.

Engine was put together several years ago. Has been freshened up a few times as needed over the years but have found no reason to change a single thing on it. Has maybe 2000 miles since last rebuild. Transmission was recently done by the same person who built the engine. Roughly 1500 miles on that. This engine and transmission has proven dead reliable. I do not drive it often lately but it has been on several road trips that were a few hundred miles long without so much as a hiccup.

Issues or things I believe should be fixed.
The front windshield has a crack in it and drips water when I wash it. I would simply have it replaced as opposed to resealed.
The car has had a switch panel installed in it for several years that it does not need. But it controls starter, electric water pump, fuel pump, and electric fan. Works fine. Just no reason to have it on a street car.
Dashpad is cracked.
Rear seat is not correct for the car. It dimensionally fits and looks right but it is not for that car.
Lastly, I believe at some point the wiring harness should be replaced with a Painless harness. Everything works and I have seen no issues as of yet. But the car spent countless hours getting wetsanded. On top of being 40 years old, its just a nice way to modernize the wiring and save possible future headaches in my opinion.

That is about all I can think of. The car is an absolute blast to drive and gets an overwhelming amount of attention. I guarantee you cannot take this car more than a few miles away from home without turning heads and getting compliments. You'll be lucky to get it out of your driveway before that. The car is not perfect but its certainly very nice. I have been accurate down to every detail that I can think of on this car but legitimate buyers are welcome and encouraged to see it in person during the auction or contact me for any questions NOT answered in the ad. Thanks for looking.

Car is listed locally and if sold during the timeframe of this auction prior to meeting reserve, I will cancel bids and pull auction.

Reserve is very reasonable on the car. In order to be fair to all bidders, I will not release what that amount is though. Just bid what you are willing to realistically pay for the car. Thanks.

Expect greater differentiation in GM's next-generation SUVs

Thu, 03 Jan 2013

General Motors says its next-generation Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade models will offer shoppers improved interior differentiation. Car and Driver recently caught up with Chris Hilts, GM's creative manager of interior design, who said that the cabins will all feature unique instrument panels, consoles, center stacks and switchgear moving forward. Apparently GM is now aware that consumers may be bothered by the fact that today's $85,000 Escalade has effectively the same cabin as a $45,000 Tahoe. Hilts says SUV buyers want more refinement than their pickup purchasing counterparts - and those same buyers also want their SUVs to have more exterior differentiation between the company's Silverado and Sierra pickup lines. Shocking.
That all sounds good to us, but we've heard this song and dance before. GM made big waves about how different the new-for-2013 Silverado and Sierra would look from each other, but judging by what we've seen so far, GM's stylists are painting in shades rather than with the full spectrum. The best Super Bowl car commercials from the last 5 years

Wed, Jan 28 2015

If you've been dipping into the Autoblog feed over the past days and weeks, you wouldn't even have to be a sports fan to know the Super Bowl is coming up. Automakers have been teasing their spots for the big game, dropping them days early, fully-formed onto the Internet and otherwise trying to amp up the multi-million-dollar outlays that they've made for air time on the biggest advertising day of the year. And, we're into it. The lead up to the Super Bowl is almost akin to a mini auto show around these parts; with automakers being amongst the most prolific advertisers on these special Sundays. The crop of ads from 2015 looks as strong as ever, but we thought we'd take a quick look back at some of our favorite spots from the last five years. Take a look at our picks – created from a very informal polling of Autoblog editors and presented in no particular order – and then tell us about your recent faves, in Comments. Chrysler, Imported From Detroit Chrysler, Eminem and a lingering pan shot of "The Fist" – it doesn't get much more Motown than 2011's Imported From Detroit. With the weight of our staffers hailing from in and around The D, it's no wonder that our memories still favor this epic Super Bowl commercial (even though the car it was shilling was crap). Imported really set the tone for later Chrysler ads, too, repeated the formula: celebrity endorsement + dramatic copy + dash of jingoism = pulled car-guy heartstrings. Mercedes-Benz, Soul teaser with Kate Upton One of our favorite Super Bowl commercials (and yours, based on the insane number of views you logged) didn't even technically air during the game. Mercedes-Benz teased its eventual spot Soul with 90-seconds worth of Kate Upton threatening to do her best Joy Harmon impression. (Teaser indeed.) It doesn't win points for cleverness, use of music, acting, or any compelling carness, but it proved that Mercedes' advertisers knew how to make a splash in the Internet Age. And, hey, it's still classier than every GoDaddy commercial. Kia, A Dream Car. For Real Life Like the Mercedes video above, the initial draw here is a pretty lady; in this case the always stunning Adriana Lima. But this Kia commercial really delivers the extra effort we expect while scarfing crabby snacks and homemades, too. First of all, Motley Crue. Second, a cowboy on a bucking rhino. Enjoy yet again.

How long will the 'golden age' of performance last?

Sat, Mar 26 2016

High-powered sports and luxury cars were everywhere at the New York Auto Show, prompting the obvious question for enthusiasts: How long will this golden age of performance last? Industry leaders have some time before regulations elevate the Corporate Average Fuel Economy level in 2025. Even then, they expect cars rippling with power to survive in some form. "Is it the end of an era," I don't think so," said Ola Kallenius, Daimler AG board member for Mercedes-Benz cars marketing and sales. "That performance element of individual mobility I don't think will ever go away." Kallenius, who oversaw the company's AMG division from 2010-2013, expects it to continue to grow. Last year, AMG sold a record 68,875 units around the world, an increase of 44.6 percent over 2014, with strong growth in the US, China, and Germany. Still, there's always the potential for gas to spike, and pending fuel economy regulations are looming. That could lead AMG to add electrification to its products, Kallenius said, pointing to the electric SLS as a test case. Chevy is also thinking ahead, said Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer of the Camaro. He wouldn't bite when asked about electrification for the Camaro (he did say "never say never"), but admitted in 2025 "it's going to be pretty tough to sell V8s." For now, things are rosy for muscle cars, and Chevy confidently showcased the 640-hp Camaro ZL1 in coupe and convertible form in New York. "I think that this is truly the golden age of performance," Oppenheiser said. It's hard to disagree. News & Analysis News: The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF was a show-stopper in New York. Analysis: There was a palpable energy when this RF — for Retractable Fastback — was revealed the night before the show at a trendy off-site venue near the Hudson River. Even as a parade of SUVs and flashy luxury cars rolled out the rest of the week, the Miata remained a hot topic. The Retractable Fastback is really a clever targa top, with part of the roof stowing behind the seats, adding about 100 pounds compared to the standard convertible. It makes the car more practical and arguably more attractive. The RF continues Mazda's tradition of selling the Miata with a hardtop variant. The first and second generations offered a detachable one, and a power retractable hardtop (a $1,700 option) was available on third-gen models. Judging by its reception in New York, the RF could prove to be even more popular than its predecessors.
