Condition Report

ENGINE: Runs on all six cylinders without smoking, missing or knocking. Engine runs at proper temperature. Newer battery & good charging system, recent oil change. Starts easy and runs strong.

TRANSMISSION: Performs beautifully. Engages gears quickly and shifts through all forward gears and reverse with good downshift and torque converter performance. Clean fluid with no burn odors.

EXTERIOR: Body: Body is in very nice shape with not a single ding down the sides - not even a door ding. No body rust ever which is no surprise as the body panels are plastic. A
bove average body. Paint: Paint is nice and shiny everywhere. All original paint. Only flaws are a few touch up spots on hood and a very small scratch under left taillight. Way above average for 20 years old - nicer than most 5 year old cars. Other: Lower plastic trim is extremely nice without scratches or fading. I did NOT Armor All the lower plastic - it's as shiny and nice as it looks. Front right corner lens has a chip that does not result in a leak into the lens - it's just chipped where the design meets the headlight. All glass is good - no cracks or chips. Undercarriage is just perfectly beautiful with NO rust - see the many pics. Underhood is nice. Aluminum wheels are in excellent shape.

INTERIOR: Interior of the car is in very nice shape as you'd expect of the low miles. The only complaint is some very minor staining on the driver's side carpet and one overhead courtesy lamp lens is missing. Dash has no cracks, cloth seating areas are in perfect shape, cargo deck carpet in great shape, third seat like new, headliner is nice with no sagging or fading, steering wheel is in nice shape, door panels are nice with no cracks or fading. No smoke or pet odors. I think it's evident from the condition that this was what the title shows - an older, female owner: car was not used like most minivans to haul the fam all over. Exceptional interior.

ELECTRICAL STUFF: All inspection items work (lights, horn, wipers, etc.) All the power options work including power windows, power locks, hot heat front and rear, tilt, cruise, am/fm stereo cassette, power sliding rear door, rear wiper, keyless entry, intermittent wipers, and rear defroster. Needs A/C compressor - I have a newer compressor and will install and make air blow cold for additional $400. Compressor goes with car if you choose to do it yourself. Note that if the sliding door is closed manually, the "side door ajar" light comes on but if the power slider is used, it does not - either power or manual, the door does latch correctly.

DRIVEABILITY: Drives out nicely. Steering is tight, alignment is good, suspension is tight. Brakes work well with good linings. Tires have about 80% tread remaining rear, 60% front, on a matched set of blackwall radials. Solid, quiet exhaust with no leaks. Check engine light is not lit (except at start up as it should.) No complaints - drive anywhere.

Short version terms: Small non-refundable deposit as listed (but fast) by Paypal within 24 hours. Balance due in 5 days by cash in person, wire transfer, or Wells Fargo cashier's check. Will meet you or your transporter at my location by appointment after 6 pm weekdays or anytime weekends. No administrative fee on this auction. Any other costs - tax, emissions inspection, registration, shipping, etc. are buyer's responsibility - see full terms. 30 days to pick up. Temporary tags available at local license bureau on weekdays. WILL PICK YOU UP AT THE CHARLESTON, SC INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT weekday evenings or any time weekends. Inspections are strongly encouraged, but by appointment only - please email or call. By bidding, you agree you are satisfied with the item description. Note that pickup times are by appointment only also - just call! Prepaid vehicles scheduled for transport can be picked up any time with at least 24 business hours' notice - have your driver call me. I'm happy to drive the car to a nearby large parking lot for easier truck loading. See my about me page for full terms.

Why the Corvette is Chevrolet's billion-dollar baby

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Edmunds has worked up a piece that tries to figure out just how much the global Chevrolet Corvette economy is worth, a spitballed guesstimate putting the number at more than $2.5 billion with the proviso that the number is probably low. It starts by taking Corvette's new car sales of 14,132 units last year, which would equate to $714,725,900 (including destination) assuming ever car sold was a base coupe with no options. In the final tally, a little extra padding gets that number up to $750,000,000.
But that's not all. Consider this: Many of the almost 1.4 million Corvettes produced over the model's history are still on the road. There are new parts being produced and aftermarket companies like Mid-America Motorworks deaing business, that single Illinois company doing more than $40 million a year in sales. There are the Corvette events large and small, restorers who do nothing but Corvettes, salvage yards that deal only in used Corvette parts and the Corvette magazines where owners find all this stuff.
And then there are the Corvette-themed tchotchkes, every single one of which provides a tiny contribution to the huge licensing royalties that General Motors collects every year. The article admits there's no way to come to an accurate number, but it just goes to show how valuable one specific model can be to a company.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible is the track car for sun worshippers

Fri, 11 Apr 2014

Supercharged, 6.2-liter V8? Check. Seven-speed manual? Check. Obsession with weight? Check.
What did you expect when Chevrolet said it was bringing a new Corvette variant to the 2014 New York Auto Show? Maybe a sticker and trim package, like the C6 Corvette Grand Sport or a tie-in deal like the Black Widow car from Chicago? On the opposite end, maybe there was an even more hardcore Z06 waiting in the wings. Who knew?

Chevrolet Malibu gets across-the-board price cuts, hopes to dig out of slump

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

To say that things aren't going well for the newly redesigned 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is a pretty sizable understatement. Reports have been swirling about the Malibu getting an emergency design refresh, less than a year after its introduction, as well as having its production at the Fairfax Assembly Plant halted twice already this year for excessive inventory. Now, Motor Trend is reporting that the midsize sedan will be receiving price drops across the board ranging from $300 on a number of models up to $770 on the 1LT trim; offsetting some of MSRP drop, though, the destination charge has increased from $760 to $810.
Without destination, the entry-level Malibu LS now starts at $21,995, which is still about $300 more than a Honda Accord and about $300 less than the segment's top-selling Toyota Camry. This new pricing also drops the price of the Eco, 2LT and 3LT trims by $300. The LTZ trim has dropped by $415, meaning that the Malibu's top dog now starts at just under $30,000, excluding destination.
Here are the new starting prices for all eight of the Malibu trim levels compared to the previous prices for the 2013 model year (including destination):
