Chevy, Impala, Convertible, V-8, Red,1970, 1972, Oldsmobile, Buick, Pontiac on 2040-cars
Royal Oak, Michigan, United States
This beautiful, smooth running V-8 convertible is great for cruising around town or long road trips. Very reliable with an electronic ignition and rebuilt TH-350 transmission. The engine has the original Rochester carburetor and a newer GM Performance air cleaner. The exhaust system has been upgraded with Hedman headers and full Flowmaster dual exhaust. It sounds amazing! It also has a new battery, new alternator and reconditioned radiator (and new hoses). The brakes; discs in front and drums in back work fine, but need new pads and rotors. The carb could use a tune-up and the sending unit for the gas tank is not very accurate. The exterior is rust free and has been repainted with period correct Flame Red with clear coat. The chrome bumpers are in good original condition with a few small stone chips and the front bumper has a small dent in the corner (see pics). The badges and emblems are all in place. There are a few small stone chips on the front edge of the hood. The side mirrors are 1970 Camaro/Chevelle sport mirrors. The wheels are aftermarket 16" Rallys and the tires are fairly new with about 5k miles on them. The convertible top is in ok condition, it doesn't have any holes or tears. But, it shows a bit of wear. The interior is refinished black vinyl and the carpet is new. It has brown stock GM lap belts and I have black aftermarket lap belts included. The heater/defroster work as do the windshield wipers and windshield radio antenna. All of the gauges work. There is a Rockford Fosgate CD head-unit and new speakers. 2 tweeters, center 4" and rear 6x9's. It sounds OK, not great. The power top works but struggles on the way up. It usually requires a hand assist to get it fully closed. The trunk is clean and rust free, with a full size spare and original jack. The windows are manual roll down, the rear passenger side window pops out of its track occasionally. Overall, this is a very reliable, fun, daily driver or weekend cruiser. I have tried to give as much info as I know, but I am not a mechanic. The car has been basically trouble free and now is starting to need some TLC. I don't have the time to keep up with it, so unfortunately I should sell it to someone who can. I will be sad to see it go. If you have any questions or would like to see it in person, send me a message. Please, only serious bidders and NO TRADES. Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner
Sat, 24 Aug 2013For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]
Sun, 03 Feb 2013The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.
Stop-start standard in four-cylinder 2015 Chevrolet Impala
Fri, May 23 2014Chevrolet has announced that it will include stop-start technology as standard in the entry level 2015 Impala. The result is a nearly five-percent improvement in city fuel economy, also known as one mile per gallon, up to 25 mpg, combined. The 3.6-liter V-6 Impala will not feature stop-start. The 2015 Impala comes equipped with Chevrolet's 2.5-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine, which will also offer 22 mpg in the city, and 31 on the highway. The 3.6-liter V-6 Impala will not feature stop-start and the mild-hybrid eAssist model from the 2014 MY, which got 29/25/35 combined/city/highway mpg, has been discontinued. Chevrolet spokesman Chad Lyons told Green Car Reports that not even one percent of the 2014 Impalas purchased were the Eco model. So Chevy is trying something different. With a seamless driving experience in mind, the new Impala's stop-start tech features software that governs under what conditions the feature will activate. The engine won't shut off if the car has not reached a speed of six miles per hour, so the start-stop won't be cycling during traffic jams. It can also fire the starter even if the engine has not come to a full stop, which quickens reaction time, particularly in instances of what Chevrolet calls "change-of-mind events." The stop-start function uses information about cabin temperature and humidity as well as battery charge to help determine whether or not to shut off the engine. The 2015 Impala has been engineered to reduce NVH, which will also help create a smoother stop-start experience for occupants, Chevy says. Motor mounts have been updated, and a burlier starter motor will help restart the engine after a stop. The Impala follows the 2014 Malibu as Chevrolet's second vehicle to feature stop-start tech. The four-cylinder model currently makes up over 30 percent of Impala sales. The 2015 Impala will be available beginning this summer, with a base MSRP of $27,735 (including destination charges). And while one MPG isn't a huge difference, neither is the price increase of just $50 for a bit of eco-minded innovation. Read on for more details in the press release below. Chevrolet Makes Stop/Start Standard in 2015 Impala Technology improves city fuel economy by 5 percent 2014-05-22 DETROIT – Stop/start technology will be standard on the 2015 Impala base 2.5-liter ECOTEC® engine, an addition that improves the vehicle's city fuel economy by nearly 5 percent, or one mile per gallon.
