Chevy exec confirms SS production model reveal at Daytona on Feb 16
Wed, 06 Feb 2013The 2014 Chevrolet SS will make its racing debut for the 2013 Daytona 500, but the production version of the car will get its official unveiling on February 16 in Daytona, a week before The Great American Race. According to a report by Automotive News, the reveal has been confirmed by Jim Campbell, Chevy's US vice president of performance and motorsports. With the departure of the Dodge Charger, the new Chevrolet racecar will be the only competitor to feature a V8, rear-wheel-drive layout in both street and NASCAR form.
NASCAR fans will be able to see the new fullsize performance-oriented sedan on display in the festivities leading up to the Daytona 500, but the car won't go on sale until later in the year. The Australian-built Chevy SS will be a low-volume performance model, and it will be priced above the 2014 Impala, which starts at $27,535.
The Corvette Museum sinkhole has been filled
Wed, Feb 11 2015After swallowing eight of the most prized pieces of the collection from the National Corvette Museum, the massive sinkhole from a year ago is rapidly becoming nothing but a bad memory. Based on the museum's weekly construction update, you can barely see the remnants of the 25-foot deep hole once in the floor. The Corvette Museum's Skydome was not always going to look like this. The original hope was to keep the sinkhole there as a tourist attraction. That plan eventually fell through, though, and instead it was decided five of the less-damaged Corvettes would remain unrestored. Progress has been moving fast to get the repairs done. Even a month ago, the hole was still very visible, and the construction company used remote-controlled Bobcat loaders to fill it in. Now, the museum has launched a contest to guess how many tons of stone it took to fill in the massive crater. The winner gets a print of the 2009 Corvette ZR1 Blue Devil being lifted out. NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.
