The extent of my mechanical lingo involves words like "thingies," and "Do-hickies," so please bear with me.

This vehicle was in an accident and was hit in the rear passenger side. The rear passenger wheel was at, let's just say, a "goofy" angle, and definitely was not able to be driven. It was salvaged by the insurance company and for whatever reason, they gave the stupid car back to us, so it's in our driveway. Before the accident, it was a really decent car and had a lot going for it. I asked my son (the driver and the one who was in the accident) to list everything good and here is what I got:

  • Brake Pads & Rotors (JUST replaced about 6 weeks ago)
  • Engine
  • Motor
  • Alternator
  • Tires
  • Rims
  • Seats
  • Radio
  • Steering Wheel
  • Headlights
  • Taillights
  • Driver's Side Door
  • Front Axle
  • Electronic Components
  • Mirrors

When I asked him for the list of not so good, it was much shorter:

  • Passenger Side Doors
  • Back Axel
  • Back Driver side Caliper

I know that the window does not go up all the way on the passenger door, but we have replaced the open-air-conditioning-style window with that of the Hefty-style which I have noticed is a very popular year-round window replacement amongst those who frequent Wal-Mart. I believe that is where I purchased my Hefty Window Replacements, so I'm not passing judgment, merely making an observation.

The manner in which the car was hit was such that this car would be awesome to either piece-meal out (if you're into that sort of thing) or if you have the capability to remove the motor and transmission, and maybe the alternator, I'm told that these fetch quite a nice price. Mind you, I haven't got a bloody clue what I'm talking about, I'm just repeating words I have written down, because to me they all mean, blah, blah, blah, price. Seriously, the guy asked me if I had a garage, and I thought that was the dumbest question because I have a two-car garage attached to my house! Yeah, come to find out, he wasn't talking about that kind of garage...I now give you permission to mock me amongst your friends tomorrow.

So, my mission is to get rid of this banged up and bruised piece of once-beloved car out of my driveway, the sooner the better. The price I'm asking is what was recommended I ask for it, but hey, everything is negotiable, even barterable (I don't think I just made that word up, did I?).

A tow truck WILL be required to transport this beauty, so do keep that in mind.  Unfortunately, I do not have the funds to donate to that cause, so that will be the buyer's responsibility.  Maybe ya'll can git them folks from Lizard Lick to come hep ya. ;-)

Any questions, feel free to contact me.  I might not have the answer right away, but I'm pretty sure I can get it quick enough. Thanks for looking and putting up with me :-)

First 2016 Chevy Volt commercial rocks us to sleep

Fri, Jan 30 2015

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt, with its thorough restyling and increased all-electric range, is an exciting evolution of Chevy's groundbreaking plug-in hybrid, so it's only fitting that the commercial campaign to sell it to the masses also be engaging and vibrant. Well, the first ad has just been officially released and it rocks... us to sleep. Now, we get that General Motors didn't want to repeat past Volt-commercial mistakes. No one wants to see dogs licking feet or dumb (and weirdly horny) aliens again. Nor would it be smart to slam all-electric vehicles, since it now sells the Spark EV and has just revealed its 200-mile Bolt concept. So, what does that leave? How about a mostly computer-generated spot that relies on cliche images and an upbeat synthetic soundtrack to communicate that the Volt is now as boring as other four-door appliances? An intro, featuring a lightly-bearded gentleman peering at his tablet through designer glasses launches us into the action as the Volt makes its way across a city bridge, then a curvaceous country road. Chevrolet doesn't include voiceover to inform you that the new Volt has a 50-mile battery-only range. There's no mention of its gas mileage once its electric charge is depleted – items that just might be of importance to hybrid buyers. The ad also makes no attempt at establishing an emotional connection, either through drama or comedy. There are, however, lots of fast cuts of the new, normalized interior, including a two-second detail shot featuring the windshield wiper switch. We imagine that this is only the first in a series of spots that will tell the Volt story and motivate potential buyers to run down to their local dealer, hopefully the next spots will be more interesting and informative. Race Recap: 2013 Indianapolis 500 better than Bollywood; all the emotion, none of the music [spoilers]

Mon, 27 May 2013

If the 2013 Indy 500 were a movie it would be the one expected to win all the little statues come awards season, and if it were an athlete it would have made spectators watch in awe as it broke record after record. And this kind of talk comes after last year's race was considered one of the best ever - the last lap hijinks in 2012 and Takuma Sato's crash leading to a podium ceremony straight out of a Golden Globes tearjerker.
But this year's race delivered more than anyone expected, from the 250,000 fans to the commentators to the IndyCar series itself and, finally, to the guy who hopped through a two-mile window on Lap 197 to take the lead and keep it until the end.

GM to restore legendary Corvette damaged in sinkhole accident

Fri, Dec 5 2014

Car lover's hearts' sank when they saw images of bent and destroyed classic Corvettes at the bottom of a sinkhole last February after the floor of the National Corvette Museum gave way. General Motors announced Wednesday it would restore the one millionth Corvette ever produced to its former glory. The 1992 convertible was heavily damaged when a 40-foot deep sinkhole opened beneath a bevy of rare cars at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Since then, GM has been slowly restoring the classic cars, though five of the eight that caught in the sinkhole were determined to be too damaged to repair. This November, the 2009 Corvette ZR1 Blue Devil was the first car to be returned in mint condition to the Museum, according to Autoblog. It suffered significant damage but was still drivable after being pulled out of the debris. The one millionth Corvette is still in bad shape. The automaker is estimating six months worth of work to restore the car, which sustained paint scratches, rear-suspension damage and a mangled front fender.
