1983 Land Rover Series Iii County "88 - Vintage Series 3 Pre Defender on 2040-cars
Hingham, Massachusetts, United States
Gentlemen and possibly, ladies, this is a 1983 Land Rover Series III "88, unique County model, right hand drive. This was imported directly from England during 2013 and is in good running condition. I do like talking Landies, so feel free to send any questions.
The vehicle is fully registered, titled and insured in Massachusetts. The state safety inspection was also passed in Sept 2013, all customs paperwork available. County model with that wonderful brown exterior. 88" wheelbase with ~66,000 miles. 4 spd manual trans, and Fairey overdrive. 4cyl Gasoline Engine VIN SALLBABH1BA170227 Engine 36119580A Exterior - Russet Brown ! exclusive to the County model along with the white stripes. - The paint is original, and as such does show fade and wear. - Original glazing/glass, no cracks. - Overall solid body, paint fading and general wear. - Firewall looks OK, with some spots of rust. - Stringers look OK but have surface rust. - Tires are worn, ~5/10ths - Roof is also original paint, good condition. - Dent crease on the driver side door. - Two brand new lower door panels (driver and passenger) are included with the car -- list for $400 each. - Slight rust on front of radiator support panel, just to the left and right of the grill. - A more recent radiator support, without rust, is also included.
Interior - Rear seats are in very good condition, lap belts installed for two of the rear seats. - Driver and center seat are good - Interior floor panels are solid, but shows wear as does the dash and door panels. - Door panel on drivers side OK. - Door panel on passenger side is missing. - Headlights, markers, rear tail lights all work. - Fog lights not working. - Interior lights work for dash and dome light. - Door locks all functional, all locks replaced 2014 with new barrel and key. - Fuel gauge works, as does speedometer. - Heater system in place except for the actual blower, so heat is not functional. Mechanical - Trans shifts as expected (slow and deliberate), syncro's feel reasonable. - Clutch OK, some slippage, would expect to replace longer term. - Newer shocks from Bilstein. - Recent distributor, and plug wires. - Engine starts reliably, needs choke on most cooler days. - Spark plugs replaced Oct 2013. - Oil and filter change Sept 2013, Mobil 1 10w40, high mileage. - New fan belt.
- Idles well when warmed up. - Compression is even across cylinders, but is lower than spec, thus down on power. - E Brake works well. - Brakes OK, a little rear squeak, definitely not Brembos. History - Imported July 2013, driven locally on the South Shore of Massachusetts (Hingham, MA) - Usage in the UK was in the south of England, an estate in the Somerset area. - I am the third owner, 2nd owner was my father.
Future Maintenance - Engine does have oil coating, possible valve cover gasket. - Drivers side turn light out – rear. - Drivers side high beam not working. - Main head light switch functioning is intermittent. - All springs are original and would most likely be replaced. - As mentioned lower compression could indicate possible head gasket need. - Tires will need replacement. I can assist is arranging transportation/ shipping if needed. Also can consider delivering within a 300 mile radius of MA. |

There once was a time when Daewoo was one of the biggest companies in South Korea. It was larger than both LG and Samsung, and second only to Hyundai. But these days the name is all but gone.
Plug In 2014: VIA makes the case for 'free' plug-in hybrid work vans, trucks
Fri, Aug 1 2014If you're a fleet manager who's been waiting anxiously for the chance to buy a plug-in hybrid van from Via Motors, your wait is almost over. If you work for the right fleet, anyway. David West, the chief marketing efficer for VIA Motors, took AutoblogGreen for a ride around the San Jose Convention Center in a Via van sporting an Electric Blue paint job as part of the Plug In 2014 Conference this week and gave us an update on how things are coming along. The big news is that the Via PHEV van production is going to start by the end of September. Via can currently build two vans an hour at its production plant in Mexico, or about 16 a day and could easily double that. "That would get us to 20,000 a year with two full lines running," West said. "We have the capacity." "There is no way gas can compete with electric." – David West, Via Motors But they can't sell that many quite yet. By the end of December, around 350 Vans will be made, mostly for a $20-million program from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the South Coast Air Quality Management District that will see the vehicles used by fleets that will report energy data to the Idaho National Lab. Via is also finishing up CARB certification for both the van and the company's plug-in hybrid pick-up truck. About 50 percent of Via's technology in the truck will not need to be tested again, since it's the same as what's in the van, but things like crash tests will need to be done twice. Despite the progress, this is not where Via hoped it would be today. The bankruptcy of battery supplier A123, "took about a year off our timeline," West said. "It's been getting a little slow getting it to market, there have been some challenges, particuarly since we had the country's worst recession right in the middle of this wrap up, but it's inevitable in my mind. There is no way gas can compete with electric." Maybe that's why FedEx has expressed an interest in buying around 5,000 units, West said. FedEx already has some pilot vehicles, just like Verizon does, and PG&E wants to replace all of their gas trucks with electric vehicles, which would be another 3,000 sales, he said. Besides the fuel savings, vehicles like these, with easy on-site power generation, could also work wonders in post-disaster situations, he said, since they could replace the need for generators.
