I purchased this car 7 years ago from a muscle car dealer in Tennessee. Decided to take it to the next level. 1963 SS Impala completely restored, new everything 5 years ago. It was put on a rotisserie, all undercoating was removed, windows were removed, it was taken completely apart, nothing was left untouched. All new wiring from painless wiring, no cut wires, plug & play. All the little things were replaced as well, window cranks, door locks, all rubber gaskets or otherwise, gas tank, sending unit...everything. Floors, doors, hood, trunk, bumpers, solid car-the list goes on. 3 pump chrome setup with all 1 inch fittings. Has 4 switches on the dash. Has accumulators on the rear for a smooth ride. Rack material is built out of 3/16. Battery rack was built to be easily removed without cutting or welding, it just unbolts. Has a redtop optima battery under the hood & has 8 odyssey 2150 batteries that cost $370 each in the trunk. These are dry cell agm batteries, they are sealed & there is nothing to leak out. Batteries have been connected with heavy gauge wire. Everything is reinforced, the frame from front to back including the body mounts, core support & battery tray. Has a Toyota 1 ton rearend all chrome-trailing arms, 3 link, brake calipers. Because of the 3 link the rear does not go to the left like a stock Impala, it stays center at any height & is narrow so you can run fender skirts & wide tires if you would like. Even if your not into hydraulics you could easily put air ride on it or put it back to stock if you know anyone that knows about suspension. Front & rear disc brakes. All suspension is molded & chromed from steering column, a-arms, etc. Has bucket seats with center console. Has a chrome glove box & dash insert. Almost every nut & bolt has been chromed including hood hinges, trunk hinges, trunk latch, headers, fan shroud...I could go on & on. Matching JL Audio system, eight 6 1/2 JL highs with two JL 10's for subs & matching JL amp. Has convertible body mounts. All bushings on vehicle are red neoprene. There is a dent in the driver door due to a cabinet that came loose inside my enclosed trailer. If I were to rate this car from a 1-10, 10 being the day it was restored it is now a 9. It has been featured in lowrider magazines & lowrider videos as well as mini truck & muscle car ad & magazines. This car is a conversation starter everywhere you go. No matter the age, everyone loves it. Priced to sell quick. Why buy one for $30,000.00 that has not been restored. I have $50,000.00 in it. Top Gear names BMW i8 Car of the Year, Corvette, Ferrari, Mercedes also win big
Fri, Dec 5 2014The lads at Top Gear have released their listing of the finest cars of the past year, handing the ultimate honor to BMW's revolutionary i8 plug-in-hybrid supercar. "The i8 is a milestone in the annals of automotive history and a glorious statement for an exciting and positive future. The i8 delivers - and then some," the British mag wrote. The i8, though, was far from the only hybridized car to take victories. James May and Richard Hammond both highlighted hybrids as their personal cars of the year, with May saluting the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Hamster, unsurprisingly, heaping praise on the Porsche 918 Spyder. Jeremy Clarkson, meanwhile, opted to shock many by selecting not only an American car as his best of 2014, but giving the honor to of all things, a Corvette. Clarkson wasn't the only person to honor the USA's iconic sports car, with the new, 650-horsepower Z06 variant being named TG's Muscle Car of the Year. Other big winners include Mercedes-Benz, which TG honored for S-Class Coupe (Luxury Car of the Year), the new AMG GT (Sports Car of the Year) and the not-for-US C-Class Estate (Family Car of the Year). The 458 Italia Speciale A snagged a second win for Ferrari. The best of the rest include the Citroen C4 Cactus, Renault Twingo, Volkswagen Golf R, Lamborghini Huracan and Audi TT. Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war
Sun, 30 Dec 2012A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?
Buick Encore, Chevy Trax earn Top Safety Pick from IIHS [w/video]
Thu, Feb 12 2015The Buick Encore has been a massive sales success practically from the moment it debuted, and Buick recently decided to increase production to keep up with demand for the premium compact crossover. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently put one to the test again, and the Encore earned a Top Safety Pick award. It's the first model from the brand to score the nod since 2013, according to the IIHS, and the rating also carries over to the 2015 Chevrolet Trax. The 2015 Encore scored a Good rating in all of the IIHS' evaluations, including the 40-mile-per-hour, small overlap front crash test. That was a big improvement over the previous model the institute tested, which scored a Poor result in the overlap test. In the first test, about 13 inches of the lower door hinge pillar came into the passenger compartment, and the steering wheel airbag moved too far to protect the dummy's head. Improvements for the latest model year showed six inches of intrusion this time, and the airbags caught the dummy's head well. The dummy's sensors also indicated a low risk of injury. The two CUVs missed out on the full Top Safety Pick+ because the IIHS scored the Encore as only having a basic front crash prevention system, and there was no such equipment for the Trax. To earn the highest mark, models need at least an advanced rating by the institute for this technology. Buick Encore, Chevrolet Trax earn 2015 TOP SAFETY PICK award ARLINGTON, Va. - A small SUV is the first vehicle from the Buick brand to qualify for a TOP SAFETY PICK award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety since 2013. The Buick Encore's newly introduced, lower-priced twin, the Chevrolet Trax, also qualifies for the honor. The Encore's award follows improvements to the SUV's structure for better small overlap front protection. The 2015 model earns a good rating in the small overlap test. In contrast, the 2013-14 Encore rated poor in the test. The driver's space was seriously compromised with intrusion measuring as much as 13 inches at the lower door hinge pillar. The dummy's head barely contacted the front airbag before sliding off the left side, as the steering column moved to the right. The side curtain airbag deployed too late and didn't have sufficient forward coverage to protect the head. In the latest test, the driver space was maintained reasonably well, with maximum intrusion of 6 inches at the door hinge pillar and instrument panel. The dummy's movement was well-controlled.
