I picked this up from a man in south Georgia last week. Here is what he told me: the car was driven regularly until several years ago when it was parked and not driven again. So it has been parked for several years. He told me that the engine and transmission (Powerglide) were running fine before the vehicle was parked. What I have observed is the following: upon tilting the car upwards when putting it on the tow truck old gasoline spilled out from under the gas tank area. So, the gas tank or a related part probably has a leak. The bottom of both right side doors is rusted out. So the passenger doors need to be rebuilt or replaced. There is no battery in the car. The engine compartment and spare tire/trunk area seem to be fairly clean/low on rust for such an old car. According to the man I bought it from, one of the previous owners put some type of sealant around the trunk area which seems to have kept excessive moisture from getting to the spare tire/trunk area. There are several other parts on the car which will likely have cosmetic or mechanical issues due to the age of the vehicle and the fact that it has been sitting for so long. The bottom line is this: this car needs to be completely refurbished mechanically and cosmetically or just used for parts. I have had the car less than a week and know almost nothing about its history. There is no title; I will issue you a bill of sale. The mileage is unknown. This vehicle is sold AS-IS. I can not warrant the operational or cosmetic condition of any single item on the car.
Please read this passage carefully: The total price of the car is $1500. there is an immediate deposit of $500 due via paypal in order to end the auction. After that, you will have 31 calendar days to pick up the car and pay the remaining $1000 in cash. Most sellers give 7 or 14 days. In fact, eBay doesn't even have a drop-down selection longer than 14 days for the balance to be paid in full. I am giving you 31 calendar days from the time of the deposit. If the car is not picked up in 31 days, the deposit is forfeited and will not be refunded. Let me be clear: if the car is not picked up in 31 days the deposit will be foreited in full and the car will be resold to someone else. I am not going to refund the deposit for any reason. If you have a death in the family, a major financial catastrophe or any other type of incident in your life which prevents you from paying the $1000 balance I am very sorry but it will not cause me to refund the deposit. So, please do not use Buy-it-Now and issue the $500 deposit until you are confident that you can pick up the car and pay the remaining balance of $1000 within 31 calendar days. I am sorry that the policy has to be so rigid but I have sold many cars on eBay over the years and all too often people do not follow through and I am stuck with lost time, lost opportunities and lost listing fees. So this policy is intended to make sure that doesn't happen.
Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Looking back at the Citation IV concept that likely shaped the GM EV1
Wed, Aug 20 2014Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it. We're not sure how that applies to the GM EV1, but we'd still like to share something from Autoline Daily, an online automotive new show with our friend John McElroy. He's been covering the business for decades now and recently found something interesting: pictures of the 1984 Chevrolet Citation IV concept, seen above. Displayed half a decade before the first electric concept that would become the EV1 (inset), McElroy says it's now clear that the elegant, aerodynamic EV1 took a lot of styling cues from the Citation IV, which was developed in part thanks to GM's new-at-the-time Aerodynamics Laboratory. We agree with him that the spats over the rear wheels, the flush glass, and the covered headlights all bear a certain kind of similarity between the two cars. That the colors almost match is a nice coincidence. The Impact (the concept version of the EV1) looked "frumpier," McElroy says, because it wasn't as long as the Citation. You can read a lot more about the Citation IV here and check out McElroy's thoughts in the video below. Find the Citation starting at around 3:45. This content is hosted by a third party. Question of the Day: What's the most irritating car name?
Wed, Mar 9 2016You hear a lot about how the Chevrolet Nova was a sales flop in Mexico because "No va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish; in fact, the Nova sold pretty well south of the border, and in any case most Spanish-speakers know that "Nova" means "new" in Latin and Portuguese. However, General Motors doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for bad car names, because the Oldsmobile Achieva— no doubt inspired by the excruciating "coffee achievers" ads of the 1980s— scrapes the biggest fingernails down the screechiest chalkboard in the US-market car-name world. That is, unless you think Daihatsu's incomprehensible choice of Charade was worse. Meanwhile, Japanese car buyers could get machines with cool names like Mazda Bongo Friendee or Honda Life Dunk. It's just not fair! So, what car name drives you the craziest? Related Video: Auto News Design/Style Chevrolet Honda Mazda Daihatsu Automotive History questions car names
GM marks 500 million vehicles
Tue, May 5 2015General Motors is marking a major global milestone, as 500 million vehicles have rolled off its assembly lines since the company's founding in 1908. To mark the occasion, the automaker is continuing to invest in production and offering a one-time discount to some customers. GM North America boss Alan Batey used the festivities to announce the Fairfax Assembly factory in Kansas as one of the sites earmarked for the company's $5.4 billion in upcoming investments. The plant will get $174 million of that money for new equipment and technology to build the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. Among the upgrades will be a shake-and-rattle booth that will simulate road conditions to find squeaks. To commemorate both the production milestone and the Fairfax plant, Batey and company CEO Mary Barra also gave away a 2016 Malibu to a wounded Iraqi war veteran, and the two execs announced that in the third week in May all GM employees can share a one-time customer appreciation discount with friends to help get them into the automaker's products. Barra also gave a speech to the workers there about some of the other milestone's in the company's history, which you can read below. Innovation on the Line: GM Manufacturing Milestones Many of General Motors' most important innovations have occurred behind the scenes, in its manufacturing facilities. Concepts such as changeover, flexible assembly, automation, computer simulation, machine vision and robotics were developed at GM. Over the decades these innovations have helped enable improvements in vehicle quality, efficiency and competitiveness. 1901: Ransom Olds' famous Curved Dash Oldsmobile, designed with simplicity, reliability and value in mind, was the first American car built in a factory designed specifically for automobiles and in standardized volume production. GM acquired Oldsmobile in 1908. 1908: Cadillac wins the Dewar Trophy, Europe's most prestigious award for precision and excellence in manufacturing, by demonstrating the auto industry's highest standards for precision and interchangeability of parts by disassembling three Cadillacs and mixing the parts randomly before reassembling and driving them before a contingent of judges. 1922: GM hires William Knudsen to lead Chevrolet's turnaround. Knudsen implements flexible mass production, which helps Chevrolet incorporate annual styling changes and take market share from Ford.
