Up for auction is a 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible. This car was restored in the early 90s and shows very well with only minor wear. The restoration was a body on with all rust properly repaired at a professional shop. This car has won a lot of awards and has been built with driving in mind. It has been all over the east coast from Maryland to Canada on more than one ocassion. The car has always been garaged since restoration and meticulously maintained.

The exterior;  The paint is very shiny and shows well. It does have a few little chips and the drivers fender has a dent on the wheelwell. the body is very straight. The name on the fender is painted on over the clearcoat so it should come off easilly. The trim is in good shape and the chrome is shiny. The bumpers were replated. The convertible top is more recent, around 4 years ago and is in great shape with the rear window still clear. The color is a light yellow called Corona cream I believe  original color to car  Paint code is 925 on trim tag. Paint is base coat clear coat. The top is power and works properly.

The interior was redone at restoration time. it is in good shape but does show a little wear. The front seat inserts are starting to split as seen in the pics. The door panel needs a little regluing on the edge.  It was redone in the original fawn bucket seat and console ss code as seen on the trim tag. The dashboard also has the original ss grab bar.

The chassis has had its suspension rebuilt and maintained. the underbody is undercoated. The front brakes have been converted to disc.

The drivetrain has been rebuilt, The 327 was rebuilt approx 6 years ago and is the 250 horsepower version. The powerglide was rebuilt at restoration and shifts good. The rear end also had new bearings installed.

The options include power steering, power disc brakes, power windows, power top. Also added by owner are ah-ew-ga horn, siren, neon style lights underneath, cb radio, and some other stuff I might be missing.

The good, This car runs, drives, looks and performs as it should and was built with driving and trips in mind. You couldn't build one for the asking price. Just get in and go.

The bad, The drivers fender has a dent in the wheelwell, The name should be removed, seat inserts are starting to split, and drivers window needs the stop adjusted,it stops about 1/2 inch from top.

I have described this vehicle to the best of my ability. If you have any further questions please ask before bidding. I am helping a friend sell this vehicle and have also known the car during it's restoration through present. included with sale is all the receipts.

Corvette owner finds stolen car, but can't get it back [w/video]

Wed, Feb 25 2015

It's not too uncommon to hear about owners being reunited with their stolen cars decades after reporting them missing. The story of Terry Dietrich in Georgia starts that way with police finding her lost 1972 Chevrolet Corvette after over 40 years. However, this case takes a different turn because unless she wants to bid on it, Dietrich's likely not getting the 'Vette back. Just six months after purchasing it in 1972, Dietrich's blue Corvette was stolen in Georgia, and in 1975 the sports car found its way to a man in North Carolina. He kept the car right up until his death just a few months ago, and that's when restorer Gary Green bought the 'Vette from his widow, according to Yahoo Autos. Unfortunately, after acquiring the Corvette, Green found some major discrepancies. For one thing, the listed VIN pointed to a '69 convertible, and there was a different serial number on the frame. Green reported the problem to the local police, and they figured out it was the 'Vette Dietrich lost over four decades ago. Consequently, the cops impounded it. The issue now arises that while Dietrich is the victim of the theft, she isn't technically the car's last legal owner. After the Corvette was stolen, she reported the crime to her insurance company, and it paid on the claim, which essentially forfeited her ownership. To make matters slightly more confusing the company can't find the title on the 'Vette either, according to Yahoo Autos. That leaves the well preserved 'Vette sitting in a police impound lot. It will likely go to auction.

The UAW's 'record contract' hinges on pensions, battery plants

Thu, Oct 12 2023

DETROIT - After nearly four weeks of disruptive strikes and hard bargaining, the United Auto Workers and the Detroit Three automakers have edged closer to a deal that could offer record-setting wage gains for nearly 150,000 U.S. workers. General Motors, Ford Motor and Chrysler parent Stellantis have all agreed to raise base wages by between 20% and 23% over a four-year deal, according to union and company statements. Ford and Stellantis have agreed to reinstate cost-of-living adjustments, or COLA. The companies have offered to boost pay for temporary workers and give them a faster path to full-time, full-wage status. All three have proposed slashing the time it takes a new hire to get to the top UAW pay rate. The progress in contract talks follows the first-ever simultaneous strike by the UAW against Detroit's Big Three automakers. The union began the strike on Sept. 15 in hopes of forcing a better deal from each major automaker. But coming close to a deal is not the same thing as reaching a deal. Big obstacles remain on at least two major UAW demands: restoring the retirement security provided by pre-2007 defined benefit pension plans, and covering present and future joint- venture electric vehicle battery plants under the union's master contracts with the automakers. On retirement, none of the automakers has agreed to restore pre-2007 defined-benefit pension plans for workers hired after 2007. Doing so could force the automakers to again burden their balance sheets with multibillion-dollar liabilities. GM and the former Chrysler unloaded most of those liabilities in their 2009 bankruptcies. The union and automakers have explored an approach to providing more income security by offering annuities as an investment option in their company-sponsored 401(k) savings plans, people familiar with the discussions said. Stellantis referred to an annuity option as part of a more generous 401(k) proposal on Sept. 22. Annuities or similar instruments could give UAW retirees assurance of fixed, predictable payouts less dependent on stock market ups and downs, experts said. Recent changes in federal law have removed obstacles to including annuities as a feature of corporate 401(k) plans, said Olivia Mitchell, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and an expert on pensions and retirement. "Retirees want a way to be assured they won't run out of money," Mitchell said.

2016 Chevy Volt auctioned off to help the robots

Tue, Nov 10 2015

One of the cool things about the 2016 Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in being auctioned off to raise money for kids' science and robotics program is that even the sedan's color sounds very scientific. Indeed, it's fitting that a "Kinetic Blue" Volt will be used to advance the scientific education of the country's students, according to Hybrid Cars. That is, if it fetches enough cash. Chevrolet parent General Motors was kind enough to donate a 2016 Volt to the so-called FIRST K-12 robotics program (FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). The program was founded in 1989. Last year, General Motors engineers worked with about 10,000 FIRST students in the US, but it looks like GM is now going the cold-hard-cash route to make its mark on future scientists. Bidding for the vehicle will take place until the morning of November 19, and, hopefully, it will generate enough interest to drive the bidding price up beyond its MSRP. As of Tuesday morning, nine bids had been taken, with the top one at $27,750. That's all fine and good except the car is pretty loaded with bells and whistles, and it's 53-mile electric-only range is a considerable jump from the first-generation Volt, so the car's "estimated value" is $40,245 (not factoring in the $7,500 federal tax incentive). That's a pretty good jump over the 2016 Volt's base price of $33,995, which marked a $175 price cut from the 2015 model. So pony up, folks. It's for the kids. Related Video:
