 Hello,

This Impala is a family heirloom. My uncle purchased it new in Los Angeles, CA in 1962, my grandmother (his mother) acquired the car in 1968. It remained with her in Casper, Wyoming until her passing in 1991. It's been in the care of my brother and I since that time. The car was used fitfully from then until 1998, it's, been seldom-used since then. As far as I know, and with the exception of new (1987) paint and some very minor additions, the car is completely original. It still requires lead-substitute compound to run on unleaded gasoline. The interior too, is all original-the driver's seat upholstery is split in places, but everything else is in great shape. The only option outside of the SS trim is the limited-slip differential. The car will need work to be roadworthy, this isn't a drive-away. It runs well enough but the carburetor needs adjustment, and possibly a rebuild (engine pulls steady vacuum, though) and the exhaust system is shot (but the manifolds are OK). Because the car spent a good part of it's life in the snow belt, there's some rust, but most of it is contained, or can be. At some point in the last five (!) decades, someone installed an alarm key barrel-I'm guessing from childhood memories that it was one of those open-a-door-or-pop-the-hood-and-the-horn-blows gizmos. It's just below the drivers side windshield corner and it's in good order and isn't that much of a distraction. There's also an emergency lamp panel installed under the dashboard.  I'll attempt now to to list the attributes of this automobile, and link to my many pictures and videos.

The exhaust system needs replacing from the headers back.

The brake master cylinder is leaking.

There's some rocker panel rust, near the driver's side rear whe

el opening, close to the frame, and some bubbling on the right rear wheel opening.

The trunk has some rust in the left side upright weld under the hinge. The rust stains on the pads (original, but well-worn) are NOT from the car, it's
from iron parts stored in the trunk (chains, extra jack, etc.).

There's a bubble in the paint on the hood-I have no explanation for it, it doesn't appear to be corrosion-related.

The left front brake drum grabs-I pulled it to see what was going on with it, the hydraulics and shoes  are OK, but I think it needs a quick pass in a lathe. I left it be, because in my experience, a quick fix can render a good part into junk.

All the electrics are OK, with the exception of the right-most rear brake light, and the wiper motor.  I think the wiper motor is OK, the problem probably lies elsewhere. The green "cold" indicator in the dash wasn't working lately, until last week when it came back to life.

The trim is all in place. With the exception of a small segment of the turned aluminum over the left front fender that fell away, everything is as it was new. The hubcap paint hasn't been filled in with new paint-they're as they should be on a 50+ year-old car. Part of the "Impala" emblem on the right flank broke off, it's safe in the glove compartment. No need for a retro knockoff bit :-)

The aluminum grille has some minor damage-it's small, but it's noticeable, so I've mentioned it.

The PVC system (such as it is, for a 50 year-old car) needs hoses and flexible connectors

The tires are very old. I used to be a tire and brake guy, those tires need to be replaced.

There are several scratches in the paint, typical parking lot stuff. If you want to paint the car, this won't matter. Even so, it gets a
lot of attention, the paint as it is looks good on the car.

The engine is sound, but reluctant when cold. The starter solenoid is sometimes intermittent-I have an extra around here somewhere.

The 2-speed cast-iron transmission shifts firmly and when it's supposed to. I averaged 20+ miles to the gallon on the drive from Wyoming
to California. This transmission and a GM small-block was a great, economical combination.

The radio is great, both of the speakers work and it pulls in stations from great distances. From the days when AM radio was everything.

The interior is very nice. The driver's seat is split in places, and the arm rest in the driver's door has electrical tape covering a split, but that's
about it as far as the interior goes.

All the glass is in good order. Both vent windows work as they should. There's a small crack (less than 3/8") in the left wing window.
The window tinting works and looks great.

The title is clean, but several years fees are due the California DMV-these will be taken care of before the car is turned over to the new owner
or their transport service.

Terms: A $500.00  deposit to PayPal from the winning bidder 48 hours after auction end. Full payment expected within 7 days time.
We do not have the resources or connections to arrange for shipment of the car, transport will be the responsibility of the winning bidder.

As I always encourage prospective bidders to do-please go over all the photos carefully, and PLEASE ask any questions you have before
bidding, thank you.

New Takata problem results in recall of 414 GM vehicles

Mon, Oct 19 2015

An airbag-inflator rupture discovered by Takata during testing has resulted in a new recall affecting 414 vehicles from General Motors, including 395 of them in the US. This latest campaign covers 2015 model-year examples of the Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Camaro, Equinox, Malibu, and GMC Terrain. There are no reported breaks in any of these vehicles on the road, and the company estimates only one percent of them actually have the faulty parts. According to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (as a PDF), one side-airbag inflator failed a cold test at -40 Fahrenheit "releasing high pressure gas and propelling the separated components apart." The supplier told GM about the failure the next day. In these vehicles, the safety device might not only burst but the bag could inflate incorrectly, as well. GM and Takata say that a cause is not yet known, but they are "conducting an investigation." GM will begin notifying affected owners via overnight mail on Oct. 19. Dealers will replace the side airbag modules on all of the affected vehicles with new components outside of the suspect lot. All of the removed parts will also be collected for further study. Takata's faulty front airbag inflators have resulted in a serious scandal for the supplier. Initial figures indicated 34 million US vehicles are need of repair, though more recent figures have knocked that down to 23.4 million bad parts in 19.2 million automobiles. GM was already among the dozen automakers with models to fix, and some of its pickups were affected, along with the Saab 9-2X and Pontiac Vibe. GM Statement: General Motors is recalling 395 cars and crossovers in the U.S. because one of the front seat side air bags inflators may be defective. In the event of a deployment, the air bag's inflator may rupture and the air bag may not properly inflate. The rupture could cause metal fragments to strike the vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death. GM is unaware of any incidents involving vehicles with these components, which were part of a lot in which one inflator failed acceptance testing at the supplier. Dealers will replace the side air bag module or modules in affected vehicles. Including Canada, Mexico and exports, the total population of the recall is 414, GM estimates 1 percent of the recalled vehicles may have the defect.

Looking back on our favorite cars of Mad Men

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The second half of the seventh and final season of Mad Men debuted this week, set to cap a run of public and critical acclaim. A decade's worth of interesting cars also made for good television, if you were paying attention. Vehicles didn't often steal the spotlight from Don, Betty, Roger, Joan and the gang, but they added meaningfully to the tone and beauty of the series. We sorted through the wheeled extras from Mad Men's archives, and choose some of our favorites to highlight. The list consists of cars that had at least a small impact on the plot of an episode, though certainly there are worthy gems hiding in just about every street and driving scene. Check out our subjective top five, and then let us know which of the Mad Men cars would be on your list. 1962 Cadillac Coupe DeVille – Season 2 Don Draper's Cadillac Coupe DeVille, all 500 feet of it, shows up in a few seasons of the show, but it's the first appearance that sets the tone. A Cadillac salesman, cut from the same cloth as Draper, asks what Don drives right now. "A Dodge," Don admits. "Those are wonderful if you want to get somewhere," allows the salesman, "this is for when you've already arrived." For a man on the move up corporate and social ladders that's a powerful message, and a pitch-perfect car. 1961 Lincoln Continental – Season 3 The most stylish Lincoln Continental ever is perfect set dressing for the mod show, of course. Though it's interesting that the car isn't cast as dapper Draper's ride, but rather his father-in-law's. Grandpa Gene does what all great grandfathers are bound to: lets his granddaughter Sally drive the big Lincoln while he works the pedals. Generational bond secured, in fine fashion. When you go back through the first three seasons of the show, you'll notice that Continentals show up more than once, too. There's nothing quite like them to evoke the best of the early '60s. 1963 John Deere 110 – Season 3 The only non-standard passenger vehicle on the list, no self-respecting gearhead/Mad Men fan should quibble with the inclusion of the John Deere 110 riding mower. For starters, the Deere is lovely to look at; a miniature version of the American Heartland icon in its green and yellow duds. The 110 appears as if milled from a solid block of steel, just the opposite of today's sleek, plasticky lawn minders (we're scouring Craigslist for one to bring home). The John Deere also has dear ramifications to the plot, too.

Refreshed 2014 Camaro confirmed for New York debut

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

We've already seen leaked specs and potential spy shots, but the refreshed 2014 Chevrolet Camaro will make its official debut at the New York Auto Show in a few weeks.
Besides a tweaked exterior and the possibility of a high-output LS7 under the hood, we really don't know much else about the 2014 Camaro, but here's hoping for an improved interior, too.
In addition to the refreshed Camaro, Chevrolet will also be showing off the recently introduced Chevrolet SS, making its debut on the auto show circuit, and we'll also get our first look at the C7 Corvette coupe and convertible side-by-side.
