1961 CHEVY IMPALA 348, TWO SPEED POWERGLIDE, DUAL EXHAUST. IM SELLING THIS CAR DUE TO OLD INJURY THAT HAS FINALY CAUGHT UP TO ME AND I HAVE BEEN PUT ON DISABILITY. DUE TO THIS IM HAVING TO SELL ALL OF MY PROJECTS. THIS CAR I HAVE HAD TO RELY ON SUBBING OUT ALL THE WORK ON, SUCH AS FRONT END AND ENGINE WORK. I HAD PURCHASED THIS CAR ABOUT A YEAR AGO. WHEN I HAD PURCHASED IT, IT HAD A GOOD 283, BUT WAS COMPLETELY FACTORY BADGED AS A 348 V8 CAR. I CHECKED THE NUMBERS ON THE ENGINE AND THEY MATCHED THE YEAR OF THE CAR  THE TRANS. DID AS WELL. A FRIEND OF MINE HAD AN ENGINE IN HIS GARAGE THAT WAS TASKEN OUT OF A 61 TOTALED 348 IMPALA WITH 69K MILES ON IT IN ABOUT 1983.  THE NUMBERS WERE GOOD AS WELL, SO I PURCHASED IT AS WELLTO HAVE INSTALLED LATER ON.   I HAD A NEW 2" LOWERING SPINDLES, CROSS DRILLED DISC. BRAKE, WITH POWER BOOSTER THAT I HAD PURCHASED, ALONG WITH TUBULAR UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS FRONT END KIT COMPLETE. I SENT THEM OUT AND HAD THEM INSTALLED ALONG WITH ALIGNMENT AND COMPLETE BRAKE JOB, FROM FRONT TO REAR TO INCLUDE WHEEL CYLINDERS AND CAILIPERS. TOTAL COST FOR PARTS AND LABOR 3,898.00. PUT ABOUT 2,300.00 IN A NEW SET OF COYES 17" FRT & 18 REARS, TIRES ARE STILL WITH STICKERS ON THEM SIZES ARE 245 X50 X R17" AND REARS ARE 255 X 50 X R 18" FROM THERE I TOOK THE CAR TO THE ENGINE MECHANIC. IT TOOK THE GUY ABOUT THREE MONTHS TO INSTALL THE 348, AS I WANTED A NEW HIGH VOLUME LOW P.S.I. OIL PUMP, WATER PUMP, AND A NEW TIMMING CHAIN WITH COMP ELECTRONIC IGNITION. THEN WE RAN INTO INTAKE PROBLEMS AS ONLY AN OLD FOUR BARREL WOULD WORK ON THE OLD 348 4 BARREL MANIFOLD. SO I HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW ELDEBROCK INTAKE AT AN OUTRAGIOUS PRICE OF 385.00, ALONG WITH A NEW ELDERBROCK CARBERATOR 368.00. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN REGISTERED DUE TO MY MISSHAP SO IT HAS ONLY IDLED AND BEEN LOT DRIVEN. HAS A LITTLE BLOW BY DUE TO SITTING SO LONG AND SHOULD CLEAR OUT WHEN DRIVEN. THE BODY TITH THE EXEPTION OF TWO SMALL AREAS IS IN NEAR PERFECT CONDITION, I CAN HAVE THE DRIVERS FRONT FENDER SPOT REPAIRED BEFOR DELIVERY, AND THE SMALL RUST HOLE NEAR THE REAR WINDOW 1/8"ON DRIVERS SIDE AS WELL AT NO EXTRA COST, AS I HAD PAID TO GET IT DONE.  THE FLOORS HAVE HAD REPAIRS YEARS AGO AND ARE GOOD AS IS, WITH NO LEAKS ETC. THE REAR SIDE OF ROCKERS ARE NEEDING SOME REPAIRS AS WELL. THE TRUNK AND 1/4 PANELS TO INCLUDE THE BACKS OF QUARTER PANELS ARE NO RUST AREAS, AND NO REPAIRS . THE FRAME HAS NO RUST DAMAGE ANYWHERE. ALL THE TRIM IS IN EXELLENT CONDITION FOR ITS AGE, ONLY SURFACE RUST IS A VERY SMALL LICENSE EDGE TRIM SURFACE, THAT WILL REQUIRE RECHROME OR USED EBAY PART. I WAS PLANNING ON DOING THE CAR TOP END PRO TOURING JOB ON THIS CAR, BUT OTHER PLANS CHANGED THE DIRECTION. TRUE MILES ARE OVIOUSLY UNKNOWN, AND TITLE REFLECTS EXEMPT MILES, AND CLEAR FL. TITLE. BID ONLY TO PURCHASE PLEASE. Why the Corvette is Chevrolet's billion-dollar baby

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Edmunds has worked up a piece that tries to figure out just how much the global Chevrolet Corvette economy is worth, a spitballed guesstimate putting the number at more than $2.5 billion with the proviso that the number is probably low. It starts by taking Corvette's new car sales of 14,132 units last year, which would equate to $714,725,900 (including destination) assuming ever car sold was a base coupe with no options. In the final tally, a little extra padding gets that number up to $750,000,000.
But that's not all. Consider this: Many of the almost 1.4 million Corvettes produced over the model's history are still on the road. There are new parts being produced and aftermarket companies like Mid-America Motorworks deaing business, that single Illinois company doing more than $40 million a year in sales. There are the Corvette events large and small, restorers who do nothing but Corvettes, salvage yards that deal only in used Corvette parts and the Corvette magazines where owners find all this stuff.
And then there are the Corvette-themed tchotchkes, every single one of which provides a tiny contribution to the huge licensing royalties that General Motors collects every year. The article admits there's no way to come to an accurate number, but it just goes to show how valuable one specific model can be to a company.

Use this PowerPoint when convincing your spouse to let you buy a Corvette

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

When you are not the one in charge of the purse strings, creativity is a must when trying to get the string-holder to bankroll that next shiny object you just can't live without.
When I was a kid, I decided that life wasn't worth living if it weren't in pursuit of owning a GMC Typhoon. My 12-year-old self crafted a fiscal strategy that, when combined with my offer of a 49-percent share of ownership in the car in return for my parents' contribution of 80-percent of the purchase price, would see me behind the wheel of a Typhoon by the time I hit college. They walked away from the negotiating table and, the economic climate of the 8th grade being what it was at the time, another partner wasn't found before the Typhoon was discontinued.
Roy El-Rayes, however, has succeeded where 12-year-old me failed, and he did it by using the sort of professionalism that only a PowerPoint presentation can provide, along with some humor and bold-faced flattery.

Toyota tops Kelley Blue Book's Resale Value Awards

Tue, 27 Nov 2012

Kelley Blue Book announced its annual Best Resale Value Award winners, and we weren't too surprised to see the list dominated by Japanese automakers - mainly Toyota and Honda. KBB hands out the awards based on the projected residual value of mostly all 2013 model year vehicles, and Toyota skated home with a number of awards including 10 of the 22 overall categories and having five of its products in the top 10 for models with best resale value. KBB's Best Resale Value Awards were announced in the same week as the ALG Residual Value Awards, and there were many similarities between both lists, especially when it came to Toyota.
To come up with its winners, KBB measures depreciation over the first five years of ownership, and looks for the cars it expects to hold its value the best after this time; on average, the report says the 2013 model year vehicles will lose 61.8 percent of its value in five years. Of the 22 categories, 15 slots were filled by Toyota, Honda and Nissan products, while the Camaro and Porsche (Cayenne and Panamera) each took home a pair of awards. If Toyota has anything to be upset about in this list of cars, it's that categories for Hybrid/Alternative Energy Car and Electric Vehicle went to the Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Volt, respectively.
The overall top 10 models for the best resale value in 2013 are, in alphabetical order:
