This auction is for a 1961 Chevrolet Impala Convertible. A good friend of mine owns the car and asked if I would list it for him as he does not have a computer. I will give you as accurate a description as I can from what I was told and how I see the car. My friends name is Larry. He purchased this car in 1998. It originally came from Florida and was a Greg Donahue Inc Restoration that was done in Clearwater Florida. According to some of the old reciepts I have the restoration started in 1981 and work was performed up until 1984. The reciepts show a lot of mechanical repair work and other types of restoration that was done to the car in that time frame. Of course that was then and this is now. We have the Florida Title and also the factory window sticker. It shows the dealer that sold the car new was Don Allen Chevrolet Miami Florida. Final assembly point was Norwood Ohio. Equipment included 348 Cubic Inch 305 HP, 3 Speed Manual HD Transmission, Antenna's Rear Right/Left, AM Radio, Modulated Fan With Clutch, Glareshade Windshield, Door Edge Gaurds, Door Filler Gaurd, Non Glare Inside Rear View Mirror, Outside Rear View Mirror, Front Bumper Grill Gaurd, Door Handle Shields, Push Button Windshield Washer, (5) 8.00X14 WSW Tires, Heavy Duty Clutch and Heavy Duty Suspension Included With 348. In one of the reciepts it shows a 2 door hardtop parts car and the the running gear from that car was freshend up and put into this car. So it still has a 348 1961 motor "F" code which is correct for the car. Also somewhere along the line a factory vaccum release for the trunk was installed. Also has fender skirts, front and rear bumper gaurds and the fancy little pull for the front of the hood. The car was always a red car. The trim code is 874 and the paint code is 923. The car had 2 tires that were getting down so he just put 2 new ones on the front to match the others. Has all T3 headlights. The body on the car is very straight down both sides. Very solid undercarrige. Nice frame. All body mounts, floors, braces, etc in great condition. I did notice a minor fix to one floor brace on the drivers side and also 2 minor fixes on the bottom rear quarter lip (very minor). Trunk is in nice condition. Does need some touch up on the spackle. Has factory type under coat. Paint is driver quality and would probably take a nice buff and clean. There is a good size scratch on top of the passenger front fender. Also a couple of scrapes on the side of the fender. Just scratched through the layers of paint, no gouges. Will need to be sanded down and blended. The rest of the paint on the car is fine. All the stainless is in decent shape. Front bumper center section had some blemishes so he is including a N.O.S. center that he purchased. Also included is a 3X2 BBL intake (tri power) no other hardware, factory convertible boot and a complete used Power Steering set up from a 61 Impala incase you want to convert it. Interior in the car is in decent shape just needs a good cleaning. Top is in good shape. Needs cleaning. Just had a new back window with zipper installed. Top goes up and down fine. The car just came out of lengthy storage and just needs a little sprucing up. Runs and drives great! The only reason for selling is Larry has a chance to purchase a piece of property that he has been after for a while. The sale of the car will help fund that purchase. Weekly Recap: Tesla loses money, still dominates the news
Sat, Aug 8 2015Some people get an inordinate amount of attention. In politics, it's Donald Trump. In football, it's Jim Harbaugh. And in the auto world, it's Elon Musk and his always-fascinating electric car company, Tesla Motors. General Motors is spending $877 million to upgrade a factory. So what! US auto sales are up. Who cares? Tesla has a metal snake that will recharge your car! So was the week in Tesla – er, the industry. Snarkiness aside, Tesla did dominate the news cycle, led by the announcement the company lost $184 million in the second quarter. Tesla also said it expects to deliver between 50,000 and 55,000 vehicles this year, and is preparing for a full launch of the Model X crossover in September. Musk also made news during the earnings call by simply not answering a question about ride sharing, leading to speculation Tesla could be considering its own operation. While the financials were the arguably the most important company news, reports of a Model S cyber hacking were more compelling fodder for Tesla followers. Researchers were able to attack the sedan and bring it to a stop, though they required access to the car first. Tesla says it already has deployed a remedy for the situation. On a lighter note, Tesla published a video of its metal charger prototype that autonomously uncoils like a snake to power up the company's vehicles, provoking plenty of humorous comments and comparisons. Watch it and decide for yourself. While some of this might seem trivial, much of Tesla's recent attention has been warranted. It's the first startup US automaker in decades to launch from nothing and actually gain traction in the market. Sure, Musk is a lightning rod and Tesla always seems to be in the spotlight. But amid all of the publicity, it easy to lose sight of the new reality: Tesla is a force. OTHER NEWS & NOTES 2016 Chevy Volt lights up 106 MPGe The Chevy Volt's vitals are looking healthier for 2016. The second-generation plug-in hybrid racks up a gaudy 106 miles per gallon equivalent, which is an increase of eight MPGe from the 2015 model. The new Volt can travel 53 miles on electricity, a significant jump from the 2015 Volt's 38-mile range. The new car also has a 420-mile total range when factoring in the capability of the gasoline engine, which is 40 miles greater than the current car offers.
Junkyard Gem: 1985 Chevrolet Sprint
Thu, May 21 2020For in the 1985 model year, General Motors began selling Chevrolet-badged Suzuki Cultus hatchbacks in California. Sales of the cheap three-cylinder econobox in the rest of North America followed soon after (with the Canadian version known as the Pontiac Firefly), and did pretty well considering the crash in gasoline prices during the middle 1980s. Starting in 1988, the facelifted Sprint became the Geo (and, later on, Chevrolet) Metro. Here's one of the very first Cultuses sold on our shores, found in a San Francisco Bay Area car graveyard. Amazingly, the primitive rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet Chevette remained available all the way through 1987, competing with the thriftier front-wheel-drive Sprint in the same showrooms. For 1988, Pontiac started selling a rebadged Daewoo LeMans, so the Sprint/Metro never lacked for intra-corporate competition. Inside, you'll find the same stuff most mid-1980s Japanese econoboxes got: tough cloth upholstery and long-wearing hard plastics. Suzuki quality in 1985 wasn't quite up to Honda or Toyota levels, but you weren't paying Honda or Toyota prices for the Sprint. MSRP on this car started at $4,949, or about $12,000 in 2020 dollars. The cheapest possible 1985 Chevette cost $5,340, while a new no-frills Ford Escort would set you back $5,620. Subaru, however, could have put you in a punitively unappointed base-model Leone hatchback for just 40 bucks more than the Sprint that year. I think I'd have sprung the extra for a $5,348 Toyota Tercel, a $5,195 Mazda GLC, or— best cheap-commuter deal of all that year— the $5,399 Honda Civic 1300 hatchback. I was 19 years old and driving a Competition Orange 1968 Mercury Cyclone that year, and I recall feeling pity for Chevy Sprint drivers, new-car smell or not. Still, these weren't bad cars for the price, though a Sprint with an automatic transmission was a real character-builder. Got three cylinders and uses 'em all! 48 horsepower from this hemi-headed SOHC 1-liter. The Turbo Sprint — yes, such a car existed — had a howling 70 horsepower. The hood-latch release is a rectangular button that resembles a badge. 1985 Chevy Sprint Commercial The highest-mileage, lowest-priced car you can buy. 1985 holden barina commercial The Australian-market version was the Holden Barina, and the TV ads featured the Road Runner. 1983 SUZUKI CULTUS Ad In its homeland, this car got screaming guitars and a drive through New York City for its TV commercials.
Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere
Tue, 26 Feb 2013Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.
