HERE IS A VERY ORIGINAL 1960 CHEVY IMPALA 2 DOOR HARDTOP WITH STRONG RUNNING 283CI 4BBL. WITH RARE 3 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN BEAUTIFUL IVORY WHITE WITH RED STRIPE THAT IS TURN-KEY AND READY TO DRIVE ANYWHERE!

Please e-mail me with questions or to set up an inspection to see the car in person. AUCTION MAY BE STOPPED AT ANY TIME.

Vehicle came out of Mass. Previous owner has had the car for quite some time and was slowly restoring it in his garage in his spare time. Recently, vehicle was sanded down to bare metal and repainted professionally, then wetsanded and buffed out. Interior is nearly all new, including door panels, carpet, headliner, seat foam and seat covers. Engine bay was cleaned up and dressed up with some chrome, motor and transmission were tuned, brakes were serviced, new exhaust/mufflers installed, new gas tank installed, etc etc. Overall there have been countless hours spent on this car and it is still not perfect, but a very nice high end driver.

Body is VERY STRAIGHT with excellent original gaps. Doors open and close nicely.

OPTIONS:

Manual steering

Manual drum brakes

AM Radio

14" steel wheels with correct hubcaps wearing whitewall radial tires

Fender skirts

Dual exhaust

Bench seat interior

Under the hood lies a mostly stock factory original 283ci V8 with an upgraded 4bbl. intake and carburetor and a RARE 3 speed manual transmission on the column. Mechanically it fires right up and sounds great along with the nice and throaty dual Flowmaster style exhaust system. Transmission is solid and shifts good without any noises or grinding and clutch is still good. I drive the car about once every other week for short trips around down or every once in a while I'll take it to a cruise night on the highway. It has never let me down and always performs great.

Interior is basically ALL NEW. Seats were redone professionally (new and correct seat foam), NEW carpet all around, NEW door panels, NEW kick panels, NEW headliner (could be tightened up a little more), good dash that has been repainted original red. Overall beautifully presentable for a high end driver.

The old girl is NOT perfect by any means of course so please keep that in mind when bidding. Paint is in VERY GOOD shape throughout, but it is NOT a $20k paintjob, so it will have minor imperfections here and there upon close examination. Body is very straight but does have some filler by lower doors, rockers and lower fenders, while rear lower quarters had metal patch panels installed. Chrome bumpers and outer trim could use upgrading/replacing throughout to bring the car up to the next level (same for inner trim like window cranks, dash trim and smaller pieces like that). Missing: spare/jack, sunvisors, rear seat emblem. Not working: couple of gauges work on/off and not accurate (speedometer needs new cable), may need a bulb or two replaced here and there, radio (not connected), horn. Underside has had some sheetmetal patches by rear floorboards (old floors weren't cut out yet), they are solid but should be redone with stock panels. Trunk floor also has a patch by center section, but very solid. All weatherstripping should be replaced.

So overall she is not perfect and will need some form of TLC depending on how nice you want it to be and what you plan to do with the car. Please note, I cannot remember every single issue with the car, nor do I know everything wrong with it, as it is after all over 50 years old so keep that in mind.

If you just want a GREAT LOOKING TURN-KEY DRIVER then this is the car for you. If you want a show car, it will need some work to bring it up to that level of course. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE BIDDING OR SERIOUSLY INTERESTED TO COME LOOK AT IT IN PERSON. I WILL BE GLAD TO SHOW IT TO YOU TOP TO BOTTOM SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO.

2023 Grand National Roadster Show Mega Photo Gallery | Hot rod heaven

Wed, Feb 8 2023

POMONA, Calif. — From an outsider's perspective, it would be easy to assume that the Grand National Roadster Show has always been a Southern California institution. After all, it celebrates the diverse postwar car culture of the region — hot rods, lead sleds, lowriders, and more. However, the show had its roots in NorCal in 1950 when Al Slonaker and his hot rod club showed their custom cars at the Oakland Expo. The GNRS moved to Pomona, California, in 2004. By then it had grown exponentially and seen about a dozen more car customization trends come and go. However, the show and its centerpiece award, the America's Most Beautiful Roadster prize, celebrate what is perhaps the first of those trends: the American hot rod in its purest form. Today, in its 73rd year, the GNRS is the oldest indoor car show in America. Annually it welcomes 500-800 cars, gathered into special themes like Tri-Five Chevys or Volkswagen Bugs. At this year's show, which was last weekend, a special hall was dedicated to pickup trucks built between 1948-98, including mini-trucks, groovy camper bed conversions, and resto-mods.  However, of all the vehicles presented, only nine are eligible for the America's Most Beautiful Roadster award. Winners get their names engraved on a 9-foot-tall perpetual trophy that was, according to The Ultimate Hot Rod Dictionary, the largest in the world when it debuted in 1950. Slonaker chose the word "roadster" initially because "hot rod" bore slightly negative outlaw connotations in 1950. Only American cars built before 1937 of certain body styles — roadsters, roadster pickups, phaetons, touring cars — are eligible, and they cannot have roll-down side windows.  Cars in the running for the cup cannot have been shown anywhere else before their debut at the GNRS.  Contestants for this accolade essentially build their cars to the a platonic ideal of a hot rod. This year the honors went to Jack Chisenhall of San Antonio, Texas, for his "Champ Deuce," a 1932 Ford Roadster. It's exactly what you picture when you think of a hot rod, but distilled to its absolute essence.  Other standouts included "Green Eyes," a two-tone green 1959 Chevy El Camino  with a heavily metal-flaked bed, "Blue Monday," a 1964 Buick Riviera lowrider, and a personal favorite, "Purple Reign," a purple and black 1951 Mercury. Cars may have started out as tools, but there aren't shows like this filled with custom refrigerators.

GM's European Opel division may eventually go all-electric

Wed, Feb 15 2017

General Motors' Opel division in Europe may transform itself into an all-electric vehicle maker by 2030. Granted, a lot can happen between now and then, including a potential buyout by French automaker PSA Group. Regardless, Opel appears to view its electric future beyond the Ampera-e, which is the sister vehicle to the Chevrolet Bolt, and more like Tesla. Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann indicated that focusing on electric drivetrains would be a superior strategy to expanding its EV technology while pushing forward with conventional drivetrains, says Automotive News Europe, citing comments Neumann made to German publication Manager Magazin. General Motors could make the decision to move towards an all-electric vehicle line for Opel as soon as May. Of course, that depends on whether Opel is bought out by PSA, the parent country to Peugeot and Citroen. PSA is in talks to buy General Motors' Opel and Vauxhall divisions, though government and labor representatives in Germany have expressed concerns over potential job losses from the proposed buyout, Reuters says. Regardless, GM has hinted at expanding its electric-vehicle line far beyond the Bolt, which has a 238-mile single-charge range and debuted late last year. Mary Barra, in an interview with CNET, said the Bolt's all-electric platform could be applied to a "huge range of vehicles," though wasn't specific about additional EV models. Opel first showed off its Ampera-e at the Paris Motor Show last fall. The name of the model raised some eyebrows because the Ampera badge had been previously used by Opel for the sister version of the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in. Either way, Opel is looking to take on Renault for electric-vehicle sales supremacy across the Pond. Related Video:

Question of the Day: What's the most irritating car name?

Wed, Mar 9 2016

You hear a lot about how the Chevrolet Nova was a sales flop in Mexico because "No va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish; in fact, the Nova sold pretty well south of the border, and in any case most Spanish-speakers know that "Nova" means "new" in Latin and Portuguese. However, General Motors doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for bad car names, because the Oldsmobile Achieva— no doubt inspired by the excruciating "coffee achievers" ads of the 1980s— scrapes the biggest fingernails down the screechiest chalkboard in the US-market car-name world. That is, unless you think Daihatsu's incomprehensible choice of Charade was worse. Meanwhile, Japanese car buyers could get machines with cool names like Mazda Bongo Friendee or Honda Life Dunk. It's just not fair! So, what car name drives you the craziest? Related Video: Auto News Design/Style Chevrolet Honda Mazda Daihatsu Automotive History questions car names
