I recently purchased this car with the intent to do a complete frame-off restoration, but I just found another car that needs a lot less work, so I am going to let this one go and let someone else do the restoration.

This car needs floors, body work and paint.  Previous repairs on the floors and body were made sometime ago, but it needs to be done again and done right. All the pans including the trunk pans need to be replaced, but under the rear seat seems good. The inner rockers are salvageable, but on each side near the front they need to be repaired. All of the floor braces except for one, (passenger side under rear floor pan), are good. It will need the trunk drop down extensions on both sides, and some rear quarter work. The body itself is not bad, the doors, fenders, hood, trunk lid, and upper body panels all seem pretty nice. The front valences are not bad but it would be best to get replacement rear valences. The frame looks very good.

A lot of money was recently spent (about 3 years ago) on rebuilding the entire front suspension of the car. New upper and lower front control arm bushings, new upper and lower ball joints, tie rods, stabilizer links, shocks and alignment. The rear bushings look ok.

Most of the trim on this car is in good condition, better than you might find on some driver quality cars. there are a few dings here and there, but with some steel wool most of it should clean up good. The wing window and rear quarter window frames are very nice. Bumpers are driver quality, no dents, with some sections being very nice.

The interior is not original. I suppose it could be cleaned up and used until you replaced it with a new original style interior kit, but it needs to be done. At some point someone painted the dash, and the paint is peeling, so when the car is restored the dash should be blasted and painted when you have the body done.

The top is in good condition, a good cleaning and it is good to go. The power top mechanism works perfectly, you can hardly hear it when it operates. The top frame is also in very good condition but it should be cleaned up and painted.

The 283 cubic inch V-8 motor runs very well, it has a smooth idle. There is some blowby, which tells me that at some point it will have to be rebuilt, but it does not smoke out of the tail pipe or knock. It has a mostly new single exhaust. The original generator and voltage regulator work great.  It has an aftermarket chrome oil pan, chrome water pump and Edelbrock valve covers. The intake manifold is not correct, as it has no hole for the temperature sender, but I am including a correct style intake manifold which is in the trunk. Also included is a set of original valve covers.

The cast iron powerglide transmission shifts perfectly, and it does not seem to leak.

The power brakes work excellent, it looks like a lot of the brake parts have been replaced, wheel cylinders, hoses, shoes, etc. even the drums look great, no need to turn them.  The power steering is the original style and it works perfectly.

The glass that is there is in fair to good condition, no wiper marks in the windshield, and no cracks. The wing windows and rear quarter windows glass is ok, but there is no glass for the 2 large door windows. I have 2 nice upper frames for these windows, but you will need the lower frame pieces and the glass, and they are available reproduction. All the regulators are there and are in great condition.

It has the single speed wiper motor without the washers. Everything in this car works except the radio and the clock. I drove the car around my neighborhood and could not believe how well it performed. Just as it is the car could be registered and driven.

As good as this car is, It really needs to be restored to bring it back to what it should be. This car is worth it.

I strongly encourage anyone who is interested in the car to come and see it.  I can answer any questions you may have by email or telephone. (413)-539-9769, (before 8 PM eastern time please),  ask for Dave.

Which electric cars can charge at a Tesla Supercharger?

Sun, Jul 9 2023

The difference between Tesla charging and non-Tesla charging. Electrify America; Tesla Tesla's advantage has long been its charging technology and Supercharger network. Now, more and more automakers are switching to Tesla's charging tech. But there are a few things non-Tesla drivers need to know about charging at a Tesla station. A lot has hit the news cycle in recent months with regard to electric car drivers and where they can and can't plug in. The key factor in all of that? Whether automakers switched to Tesla's charging standard. More car companies are shifting to Tesla's charging tech in the hopes of boosting their customers' confidence in going electric.  Here's what it boils down to: If you currently drive a Tesla, you can keep charging at Tesla charging locations, which use the company's North American Charging Standard (NACS), which has long served it well. The chargers are thinner, more lightweight and easier to wrangle than other brands.  If you currently drive a non-Tesla EV, you have to charge at a non-Tesla charging station like that of Electrify America or EVgo — which use the Combined Charging System (CCS) — unless you stumble upon a Tesla charger already equipped with the Magic Dock adapter. For years, CCS tech dominated EVs from everyone but Tesla.  Starting next year, if you drive a non-Tesla EV (from the automakers that have announced they'll make the switch), you'll be able to charge at all Supercharger locations with an adapter. And by 2025, EVs from some automakers won't even need an adaptor.  Here's how to charge up, depending on which EV you have:  Ford 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. Tim Levin/Insider Ford was the earliest traditional automaker to team up with Tesla for its charging tech. Current Ford EV owners — those driving a Ford electric vehicle already fitted with a CCS port — will be able to use a Tesla-developed adapter to access Tesla Superchargers starting in the spring. That means that, if you own a Mustang Mach-E or Ford F-150 Lightning, you will need the adapter in order to use a Tesla station come 2024. But Ford will equip its future EVs with the NACS port starting in 2025 — eliminating the need for any adapter. Owners of new Ford EVs will be able to pull into a Supercharger station and juice up, no problem. General Motors Cadillac Lyriq. Cadillac GM will also allow its EV drivers to plug into Tesla stations.

Some 2012-13 Chevy Volts may not have enough battery coolant

Mon, Jun 23 2014

The 2012 and 2013 model year Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in vehicle may have a battery glitch caused by low coolant levels. No recall has been issued and General Motors is taking care of the issue at no cost to drivers. Some of the affected Volts may have lower-than-advisable coolant levels because of some pesky air pockets in the car's cooling circuit. When the coolant levels get too low, the charging system for the battery powering the car's onboard generator (i.e. the Rechargeable Energy Storage System, or the RESS) may be shut down, turning one's Volt into a run-of-the-mill gas-powered car, and a pricey one at that. The Car Connection says GM is advising owners of the '12 and '13 Volts to contact their local Chevy dealer for a free fix. GM representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from AutoblogGreen for more details. We believe this is a separate issue than the one that brought 8,000 Volts back to the dealers for a battery coolant fix, what GM called a "voluntary customer satisfaction effort," a few years ago. General Motors sold 23,094 Chevy Volts last year after selling 23,461 Volts in 2012, so that fix-it list may get fairly lengthy. Check out a GM-Volt.com user thread related to this issue here. *UPDATE: Chevrolet spokesman Randy Fox confirmed in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen that the company issued a service bulletin to dealers that they may need to top off coolant levels on certain Volts because of the issue, and that the vehicle will "return to normal charging operation" once that's done.

Editors' Picks August 2021 | Honda Civic, Mercedes S-Class and more

Thu, Sep 9 2021

This month of Editors' Picks saw us award the honor to a couple of redesigned stalwarts like the Honda Civic and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Plus, a new crossover that splits the difference between the compact and subcompact class takes home the prize. On top of this, we'll introduce you to a new term: midcompact. We'll be using this to describe those in-between crossovers that are a tad too small to be considered compact, but too large to neatly fit into the subcompact class. For a few examples of these "midcompact" cars, we'll point you to the Ford Bronco Sport, Kia Seltos and VW Seltos. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in August that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2021 Genesis G70 2022 Genesis G70 View 26 Photos Quick take: Genesis hits all the right buttons with its G70. It's attractive, fun to drive and can be had for a fair price. Enthusiasts should give it a shot before taking home one of its German competitors. Score: 8 What it competes with: Alfa Romeo Giulia, Lexus IS, Acura TLX, Infiniti Q50, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Cadillac CT4, Volvo S60 Pros: Sharp handler, stunning exterior looks, strong engines Cons: Average interior, loses manual option, small backseat and trunk From the editors: News Editor Joel Stocksdale — "I was already a big fan of the Genesis G70. It has brilliant handling, and the twin-turbo V6 is a beast. It's even a bargain against the competition. And Genesis just made it look a lot better. I wish they'd done a bit more to update the interior, but it's still not a bad cabin. Besides, you won't think too much about it when you're hustling down a fun back road." Features Editor James Riswick — "Yes, it is small, but in a sport sedan segment where "sport" means increasingly less, the G70 still delivers (in part because of that smallness).
