1958 Chevrolet Impala
2 Door Hardtop
This is a very nice 1958 Chevrolet Impala 2 door hardtop. This car is all original with the exception of the period correct, roll and pleated seats and door panels. She is powered by a 348 cu. in. V-8 with a four barrel carburator. This allows her to cruise effortlessly on the Interstate at 70MPH. The transmission is a matching automatic 2 speed powerglide which shifts smoothly. Both were rebuilt and installed in the car 3 years ago. Driven very few miles since (local car shows, cruise-ins and whenever the urge strikes). This girl really floats when driven at highway speeds.
To make driving a pleasure this car has power steering and power drum brakes. For those cold nights, she is equipped with a working heater and defrost. For those warm summer days, roll down the windows and step on the gas, no AC. This car was meant to drive with the windows down anyway.
All the gauges work well, (speedometer, temperature, gas). All the lights work including the interior dash and turn signal indicators. The clock does not work. To make cruising more pleasurable, a modern CD player has been installed behind the tissue dispenser under the dash.
The tires are wide whites and have a very nice set of original spinner wheel covers. An original bias ply tire, for show only, is in the very clean trunk.
The seats, carpet and headliner were recovered some time ago but show very well. As stated above, the seats and door panels were done in the roll and pleated style which really set off this car and make her stand out as unique.
The exterior is painted white and is also in very good condition. If you like chrome, this is the car for you. All the chrome is present and shines well. There are a few minor dents on the door guards on both sides. The bumpers, grill and side moldings are very nice as are the hood and trunk emblems. The rear roof molding could stand to be redone. The painted fender skirts show this girl's modesty.
The dual exhaust was replaced with the engine and transmission 3 years ago.
The glass is all present and some appears original. It is in pretty good shape overall. Minor chips in the windshield and minor scratches on the rear window.
The odometer reads 36,049 but is not correct. I do not know if it has rolled over. It was not reset when the new engine and transmission were installed. The odometer does work and may increase slightly as I continue to drive the car.
While not a show car, you will not find a better, more complete, more original driver. She takes her fair share of trophies a the local car shows.
I can be reached at (803)808-1919 or (803)260-0157. If you are truly interested, call and let's talk. I have described this car to the best of my ability. Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee teases return with a Countach
Fri, May 29 2015Unless you have an intense aversion to Jerry Seinfeld, it's hard not to find something to like about his show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. After all, the series combines funny people telling often hilarious stories while riding in ridiculously cool vehicles. The trailer for the sixth season is now online, and based on this tease, this definitely looks worth watching no matter what part of the videos interest you. Of course, it's the automotive portion that really grabs us, and Seinfeld has quite a fleet to showcase for season six. The trailer shows off a Lamborghini Countach, a '57 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible, a classic Volkswagen Beetle in the green and white German Polizei livery, a Morgan, an Aston Martin DB5, and a Ferrari 308. On the more humorous side of things, the guest list at least includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jim Carrey, Steve Harvey, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher and upcoming host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah. Season six of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee premieres on Crackle on Wednesday, June 3, at 11:30 PM ET.
Did the Chevy Corvette Z06 break 7 minutes at the Ring? Not likely
Wed, Jan 28 2015"Just because it's on the internet doesn't make it true." That's rule number one, two and arguably, three, of surfing the world wide web. In today's example of this rule, we have the following. The website HorsepowerKings is claiming that a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, with the eight-speed automatic and Z07 package, managed to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife in under seven minutes. To put that in perspective, that super-quick time would put the 650-horsepower, $97,000 (the price of a 2LZ with the Z07/8AT combo) Z06 a mere two seconds slower around the world's most challenging race track than the $929,000, 887-horsepower Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach. It's about eight seconds quicker than Nissan's own test of the GT-R Nismo Track Pack and 13 seconds faster than a Dodge Viper ACR. Unfortunately, Chevy says there isn't anything to it. We reached out to the Bowtie's Monte Doran, who confirmed that HK's claims are "not accurate." "Any one – a manufacturer, a journalist, a guy standing on the fence of the Ring – can claim a lap time. As such, we think the in-car video is essential to proving a time is real and credible, and Chevrolet will not release a lap until we have a video to substantiate the claim," Doran told Autoblog. "Chevrolet accumulated nearly 1,000 miles of testing on the Nurburgring with the Z06. During that time, we only had two opportunities to run a lap on video – and both were rained out. If we get a lap on video, we will post an official time." Doran finished by referencing the "only official lap time" for the Z06 – a 2:41 around the Virginia International Raceway. Frankly, we aren't terribly surprised by Chevy's position. One would imagine if the Z06 were matching million-dollar hypercars around the 'Ring, the company would literally be screaming about it from Renaissance Center's rooftop. As this is quite the opposite of that, though, we're betting that the real Z06 lap time - while still likely very, very fast – won't be quite quick enough to frighten the brightest and best of today's hypercars.
Looking back at the Citation IV concept that likely shaped the GM EV1
Wed, Aug 20 2014Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it. We're not sure how that applies to the GM EV1, but we'd still like to share something from Autoline Daily, an online automotive new show with our friend John McElroy. He's been covering the business for decades now and recently found something interesting: pictures of the 1984 Chevrolet Citation IV concept, seen above. Displayed half a decade before the first electric concept that would become the EV1 (inset), McElroy says it's now clear that the elegant, aerodynamic EV1 took a lot of styling cues from the Citation IV, which was developed in part thanks to GM's new-at-the-time Aerodynamics Laboratory. We agree with him that the spats over the rear wheels, the flush glass, and the covered headlights all bear a certain kind of similarity between the two cars. That the colors almost match is a nice coincidence. The Impact (the concept version of the EV1) looked "frumpier," McElroy says, because it wasn't as long as the Citation. You can read a lot more about the Citation IV here and check out McElroy's thoughts in the video below. Find the Citation starting at around 3:45. This content is hosted by a third party.
