BARN FIND, 1966 Impala SS 396 Convertible that has been in storage since 1982.  LOW MILEAGE, NUMBERS MATCHING, everything works including the power top.

Fisher Body Cowl Tag picture showing body #1.   Los Angeles (Van Nuys) production was 550 cars per day and this cars VIN indicates it is in fact a first day of production vehicle.

It is a 396, Powerglide 2 Speed Automatic with a 12 bolt rear end.

The exterior is in it's original paint/color with the exception of the front passenger fender; the good news is the replacement fender is an original GM Replacement Fender installed in 1982 (have the receipt) but never painted.

There is no exterior or interior trim missing, it is all there (The front passenger side trim is in the white tube in the trunk picture).

The interior is in outstanding shape, the carpet has been replaced with a replacement carpet (floor is solid) that came with the vehicle.  The convertible top fabric has a few seams that are starting to split, but it is functional and the power top works great.  I also have two convertible boot covers, one in white and the other in matching blue.

The previous owner had drained all fluids prior to placing in storage in 1982 (yes that is right this car was stored in a garage under cover since 1982).  I replaced the fluids, charged the battery and she started right up.  The starter solenoid was weak and needed to be replaced (I kept the original for rebuilding), additionally the wheel cylinders and master cylinder were replaced (also kept for rebuilding) to ensure the vehicle could be safely driven.  Other than that, this is how it was found when purchased as part of an estate in June of 2013.

I have the original finance paperwork from Seafirst Bank in Seattle showing the vehicle was purchased from Fleet Chevrolet in Seattle October 13, 1965.   I have registration and licensing documentation for the both previous owners, numerous receipts, the owners manual, convertible top operation booklet, and accessories pamphlet for 1966.

This may be your only chance to own a TRUE NUMBER 1 CAR, as most end up in private collections, museums, or with the manufacturer.

This vehicle is the perfect candidate for restoration because it is all there, it runs and drives great, and there is very little rust repair needed.  Low mileage, numbers matching, this vehicle is a time capsule and must be seen in person to appreciate.

Please ask any questions prior to bidding.  This is a real numbers matching car that I am listing to SELL. I know what I have, and my reserve is very reasonable.  Yes I know it is cool but I am not looking to start a blog or a forum, so please limit your questions to those pertaining to the sale of this vehicle.

Chevy bringing updated Equinox to Chicago

Fri, Feb 6 2015

An updated Chevy Equinox will be revealed at next week's Chicago Auto Show, the automaker confirmed Friday in a press release. The debut of the updated, 2016 Equinox comes on the heels of the midsize crossover – pictured above in its current, 2015-model-year form – posting its best January sales month ever. No details have been released, but Chevy did send out the teaser image you see at right, showing an updated front fascia with new headlamps and LED running lights. This update for the Equinox can't come soon enough. The midsize crossover segment is huge right now, and Chevy's player has largely been unchanged since the second-generation Equinox debuted in 2009. When asked about when we might see a tweaked version of the GMC Terrain – the Equinox's sibling – a General Motors spokesperson could not confirm any specific timing. In any case, we'll bring you all the official details of the new Equinox when it shows its updated face, next week. Nissan Leaf sells 3,186 in best month ever as Chevy moves 2,511 Volts

Wed, Sep 3 2014

The end of summer seems to inspire people to go out and buy a lot of plug-in vehicles. Last year, for example, the Chevy Volt had its best month ever in August, with 3,351 sales. This year, the Nissan Leaf is going up to the winner's podium, setting its own best-ever record with 3,186 units sold. This beats the Leaf's previous record by 69 vehicles. This beats the Leaf's previous record of 3,117 set in May 2014 by 69 vehicles and is up 31.7 percent from August 2013. Nissan is once again quick to remind us that the popular EV's record sales streak has now been extended to 18 months in a row. This record is simply noting that the current month, in this case August, had the highest sales that that month has ever seen in the US. Over all, US Leaf sales are up 34.1 percent so far this year. In a prepared statement, Nissan's director of Leaf sales and infrastructure, Brendan Jones, said that the Leaf is selling well on both coasts, including cities like Raleigh, Boston and Washington, DC. "It's what we call the 'cul-de-sac phenomenon,' where once someone in a community buys a Leaf, then friends, family, co-workers and neighbors see the benefits of this fun-to-drive electric vehicle firsthand and are sold on the idea of going electric," he said. The Volt also had a good month - its best of 2014 by almost 500 sales – but the 2,511 Volt sales still represent a drop of 25.1 percent from the excellent sales the Volt had this time last year. In fact, August 2014 represents the Volt's best sales month since, well, August 2013. Apparently, there's just something about the end of summer. As always, we are working on our in-depth round-up of green car sales across the country and will have that up soon.

This map reveals the cleanest vehicles based on location

Thu, Apr 28 2016

Naysayers love to point out how dirty the electricity grid mix is when it comes to charging electric vehicles. Curmudgeons are eager to jump into any conversation about EVs to enlighten the lucky listeners about how plug-in cars contribute to pollution, sometimes even throwing in a dash of climate-change denial for good measure. (Thanks, buddy. Pray, tell me more about the plight of oppressed SUV owners.) Unless someone buys an EV just because they think they're cool (which, yeah, they often are), they probably have at least a passable understanding of their environmental pros and cons. As many EV owners are already aware, location has a lot to do with any particular plug-in car's carbon footprint. Still, there's always more to know, and knowledge is not a bad thing, especially if one uses it to do the right thing. That's why this handy-dandy map from Carnegie Mellon University is so interesting. CMU researchers have compiled information about the lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions of various EVs based on where they're charged, as compared to gasoline-powered vehicles. The researchers looked at the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt, and Prius Plug-In Hybrid versus the gasoline-dependent Toyota Prius hybrid and the stop-start-equipped Mazda3 with i-ELOOP and compared grams of CO2 emitted per mile. CMU takes into account the grid mix, ambient temperature, and driving patterns. CMU takes into account the grid mix based on county, as well as ambient temperature and driving patterns in terms of miles traveled on the highway or in the city. For instance, if you drive a Nissan Leaf in urban areas of California, Texas, or Florida, your carbon footprint is lower than it would be if you were driving a standard Toyota Prius. However, if you charge your Leaf in the Midwest or the South, for the most part, you've got a larger carbon footprint than the Prius. If you live in the rural Midwest, you'd probably even be better off driving a Mazda3. Throughout the country, the Chevrolet Volt has a larger carbon footprint than the Toyota Prius, but a smaller one than the Mazda3 in a lot of urban counties in the US. The Prius and Prius Plug-In are relatively equal across the US. Having trouble keeping it straight? That's not surprising. The comparisons between plug-in and gasoline vehicles are much more nuanced than the loudest voices usually let on.
