Up for auction is a 2006 Chevy Express 1500 cargo van.

It's actually a 5 door but eBay only has an option to select 4 door. What's up with that?

This van looks like it's in mint condition inside and out (if your eyes are closed) and has exceptionally low, low mileage. (344,045 mostly freeway)

It comes with free locksmiths stickers and some big, honkin' padlock hasps on the doors so you can keep the tweekers out of your stuff.
(see photos, padlocks not included)

The interior is shockingly not too bad if you don't mind a couple of small, random seat holes and stains of unknown origin.
There's a slight odor but I can't quite put my finger on it (not that I'd want to) but I'm pretty positive it's not cat.
The headliner is in one piece but good luck keeping the sun visors from flopping around, I think it's kind of a GM deal.
The glovebox thingie on the doghouse is missing, it's been on my list of things to replace but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Despite having purchased the vehicle new, I have very few repair receipts. Not that the van never needed repairs,
I'm just lousy at keeping records. Honestly in all the time I've owned the van it's never needed anything major,
these 4.3L engines are darn near bulletproof.

The oil was changed religiously and the the engine seems strong considering the mileage and the occasional
"check engine light" that sometimes appears.

I guarantee this van can be driven at least 10 miles with no major mechanical issues as long as long as you stick
to the speed limit on side streets. Take it on the freeway and all bets are off.

The windshield has some pretty interesting cracks; amazingly intricate spiderwebbing but not a ton of 'em.
The rest of the glass is in good shape. All the doors lock and unlock, open and close and the windows operate
as they should. The tires are needing replaced but hey, "bald is beautiful".

There are no electrical issues that I'm aware of but I'm unaware of many things.
All the headlights, tail lights and turn signals worked the last time I checked them (sometime in 2012)

Somewhat surprisingly, the body doesn't have any major dents.
The front bumper has kind of a big ding in it. Yeah, that's what happens when people J-walk.

The back cargo area is just that.. a cargo area. There are no benches or racks of any kind but there is a
bulkhead dividing the front of the cab from the back cargo area.

I'm starting this listing a $1,000 (I know, right?!?) for a couple of reasons.
1) even high mileage Express vans are going for stupid money, and
2) I'm sure that the van is worth at least that much in just spare parts.

Oh, and this is awesome: The A/C actually blows pretty cold.

Feel free to drop me a line with any questions or to schedule an appointment to come check it out.
This sale is for local pickup only, I'm far too lazy to ship this van anywhere.
Heck, I don't even plan on washing it.

I'm in the area of I-17 and Glendale Avenue in Phoenix.

Race Recap: Rolex 24 at Daytona was fast and feisty

Mon, Jan 26 2015

Let the record show that victory at the 2015 Rolex 24 at Daytona went to the No. 02 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Target/Ford EcoBoost Riley DP driven by Verizon IndyCar drivers Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan and NASCAR drivers Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson. The winner did 740 laps to cover 2,634.3 miles in 24 hours and 57.667 seconds. That's a statement to this year's pace in spite of 18 cautions, two more than last year: the Michael Shank Racing Ligier got pole with a time of 1:39.194, slower than last year's pole time of 1:38.270; however, the winning car last year only did 695 laps. The fight for top honors was shaved to a four-car battle over the first third of the event. The No. 02 Ganassi car took the lead on the first lap, swapping it well into the night with the No. 01 Ganassi car, the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP, and the defending champion No. 5 Action Express Corvette DP, all of them staying within about 20 seconds of one another. The Action Express car had a fuel connector come loose and lost three laps getting towed back to the pits to have it reattached, but was back in the lead 18 hours in. The No. 01 Ganassi car dropped out with recurring clutch problems 22 hours in, retiring not long after. A race-within-the-race is where the concluding action happened, a seven minute, 30-second dash from the end of the last caution to the checkered flag. During the penultimate pit stops with an hour to go, Dixon was in second place followed Jordan Taylor in the Wayne Taylor Racing DP into the pits but beat him out, taking the lead. The Action Express car was in third. In the last pit stops of the race, Dixon gained even more time, getting a four-second advantage over Taylor. Then a full-course caution came out twenty minutes before the finish when a Prototype Challenge car hit the wall and caught fire, bunching up the field. That closed the pits, but the Wayne Taylor Racing car had to pit during that yellow because of a miscalculation of driver time. No driver can be behind the wheel for more than four hours in a six-hour period but Jordan Taylor was going to go over, so he came in to swap out for brother Ricky. That cost the team any chance of second place, since they took an additional drive-through penalty for entering closed pits. When the track went green again, Sebastien Bourdais in the Action Express car stayed all over Dixon for the final five laps but couldn't get around him.

EcoCar2 is on the hunt for a better, cleaner Chevy Malibu [w/video]

Thu, Jun 12 2014

The students spent three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. Not far from the building where General Motors once invented the Chevy Volt, a dozen or so college students are standing on the blacktop alongside a test track, watching a professional driver push the limits of a plug-in hybrid car they've built that's far more radical. These students, from Colorado State University, have spent the past three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. At first glance, it still looks like a regular sedan. But under the hood, they've installed a hybrid powertrain that contains both hydrogen and electric power sources. Even by the standards of the Department of Energy competition they're participating in, it's an outlier. That's exactly what they had in mind. "We didn't want to come here and tell them how to build a better Volt," said Tom Bradley, faculty adviser for the Colorado State team. "They already know how to do that. We can tell them how to think about these possibilities in a whole new way." After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The Colorado State team was one of 15 that came to GM's Milford Proving Grounds last week for the final stretch of the EcoCar2 competition, which challenges regular college students who have no automotive experience to do nothing less than reinvent the American car. The teams have come from across North America, and include schools like Ohio State and Virginia Tech that have a long history of participating in similar competitions, and schools like the University of Washington and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University that are here for the first time. After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The teams have operated 24 hours a day for almost two weeks here at the Proving Grounds, running a gamut of tests that include a 310-point safety inspection, emissions and energy-consumption tests and road tests, in which professional GM drivers ensure they're road worthy. The winning team will be announced tonight in Washington D.C. Revolutionary cars, ordinary package While other green-car competitions encourage extreme designs, this one comes with a somewhat constraining twist: Yes, students must improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, but in the end, they still have to have a car that would appeal to mainstream customers. In practical terms, that means they must keep conveniences like air conditioning and trunk space.

Motor Trend wheels the 2015 Corvette Z06

Tue, Nov 25 2014

The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is capable of some absolutely wild metrics. Want proof? Carlos Lago from Motor Trend is here to break it all down. 60 miles per hour? 3.2 seconds. 60 to 0? 91 feet. Lateral acceleration? A staggering 1.16g, a figure that is the highest MT has ever recorded for a vehicle that isn't a race car. It's an utterly astonishing piece of work, this Z06, and just when you think it can't possibly get any more impressive, Randy Pobst hustles an auto-equipped Z06 around Road Atlanta in just 1:30. Aside from the eight-speed auto, Pobst's Z06 had the most aggressive aerodynamic package, the so-called Stage III. Take a look at the 650-horsepower Z06 in Motor Trend's latest video.
