2001 Chevrolet Express Van 3500 Insulated Refrigerated Reefer Is Carrier 30s on 2040-cars
Chicago, Illinois, United States
Here is info on this Van. I purchased the van new in 2001 from Roesch Chevrolet. Insulation and refrigeration was installed by Mobile Air, West Chicago. IL. Reefer unit is Carrier Model 30S. I sold this van to a company that I purchased in 2003. At this time it became a corporation owned van. It is now still in service as a daily used vehicle in the business that I own. I am currently in the process of selling my distribution business(lawyers and paperwork in progress) and the new owner has 12 of his own trucks, so he will not need this van. This vehicle has always been garaged daily and weekends. That is why it has little rust for a van 13 years old and been thru 13 Chicago winters. It was normally driven by the same driver for deliveries in Chicago metro and suburbs. It does show 13 years of wear and tear on the outside, but the van was always maintained by Advance Auto/Brookfield Car Care, Brookfield, IL. If an part needed replacement, it was repaired. I have rented refrigerated vans in the past and that rental in Chicago IL. cost about $150-$200 per day. The van was inspected yearly by Illinois Dept. of Agriculture, Bureau of Meat and Poultry for cleanliness and temperature(inside). It always passed inspection. Tire wear at this time is normal. I would guess you could get 3000-5000 miles before tires need replacement. The van runs fine, but it does have 224,000 miles on it. It is sold "as is". Suggestions and Comments: If you have to replace the motor or transmission in this vehicle, Jasper Engines will have the motor ($4000-$4500) or Transmission ($2500.00) in stock for replacement. Jasper guarantees for 3 years/ 36000 miles on both items. If you replace both items your cost for this van with insulation and refrigeration would be a total of $13000.00. Compare this to a new van with insulation and refrigeration: on the low end about $38000.00. If you drive this vehicle for 2 years with no major repairs, your operating cost is only $250.00 per month plus expenses.(if purchased at $6000.00) I have been in the food distribution business over 40 years and know the costs on this type of vehicle. If you are looking for a refrigerated/reefer, insulated used van, they are very hard to find. They just do not come on the market often. Most vendors just drive them to the end of their useful life. 2001 Chevrolet Van express 3500 Automatic transmission A/C Everything Works - Current Temp setting at 35 degrees in reefer compartment. This temperature depends on how many door opening you have during the day and the outside, but it will hold at 35 degrees per the current settings. Refrigerated and Insulated by Mobile Air, West Chicago,IL. (New Insulation and refrigeration Cost: $7000.00 Always serviced by Mobile Air. Works well. New alternator and battery installed May 2014 by Advanced Auto, Brookfield IL. Mileage___224605 Needs new windshield(cracked) replacement cost with used glass is $200.00 Used Daily to deliver fresh meat and Cheese Load will hold 3000 lbs. Call 312.391.0335 |

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be
Thu, May 27 2021We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.      View this post on Instagram            A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.      View this post on Instagram            A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be. PickupTrucks.com's latest test results in a familiar winner [w/video]
Wed, 19 Jun 2013PickupTrucks.com has gone and thrown the latest batch of half-ton pickups into a cage match to see who would come out on top. The site put the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2013 Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan through a battery of tests. Those included 0-60 miles per hour acceleration, 60-0 mph deceleration, fuel economy, a hill climb, and payload and towing. They even threw the rigs on an autocross course to evaluate overall handling. Each truck was given points based on how it scored in each evaluation.
Who came out on top? Somewhat surprisingly, the 2013 Ford F-150 walked away with the gold, though fewer than 50 points separated first and fourth place. Head over to PickupTrucks.com to read the full evaluation and the final results. You may be shocked to see exactly where some of the segment's newest additions placed. You can also watch a video on the test below.
Consumer Reports no longer recommends Honda Civic
Mon, Oct 24 2016Consumer Reports annual Car Reliability Survey is out, and yes, there are some big surprises. First and foremost? The venerable publication no longer recommends the Honda Civic. In fact, aside from the walking-dead CR-Z and limited-release Clarity fuel-cell car, the Civic is the only Honda to miss out on CR's prestigious nod. At the opposite end there's a surprise as well – Toyota and Lexus remain the most reliable brands on the market, but Buick cracked the top three. That's up from seventh last year, and the first time for an American brand to stand on the Consumer Reports podium. Mazda's entire lineup earned Recommended checks as well. Consumer Reports dinged the Civic for its "infuriating" touch-screen radio, lack of driver lumbar adjustability, the limited selection of cars on dealer lots fitted with Honda's popular Sensing system, and the company's decision to offer LaneWatch instead of a full-tilt blind-spot monitoring system. Its score? A lowly 58. The Civic isn't the only surprise drop from CR's Recommended ranks. The Audi A3, Ford F-150, Subaru WRX/STI, and Volkswagen Jetta, GTI, and Passat all lost the Consumer Reports' checkmark. On the flipside, a number of popular vehicles graduated to the Recommended ranks, including the BMW X5, Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and Cruze, Hyundai Santa Fe, Porsche Macan, and Tesla Model S. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the hilariously recall-prone Ford Escape getting a Recommended check – considering the popularity of Ford's small crossover, this is likely a coup for the brand, as it puts the Escape on a level playing field with the Recommended Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue. While Ford is probably happy to see CR promote the Escape, the list wasn't as kind for every brand. For example, of the entire Fiat Chrysler Automobiles catalog, the ancient Chrysler 300 was the only car to score a check – there wasn't a single Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, or Ram on the list. That hurts. FCA isn't alone at the low end, either. GMC, Jaguar Land Rover, Mini, and Mitsubishi don't have a vehicle on CR's list between them, while brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Lincoln, Infiniti, and Cadillac only have a few models each. You can check out Consumer Reports entire reliability roundup, even without a subscription, here.
