This is a beautiful custom 1987 El Camino. Unfortunately, I no longer have room for it in my garage, so I have to sell it.

The mileage listed is what currently reads on the odometer, but like all 1987 El Caminos, the odometer is only 5 digits and has "rolled over" back to zero after passing 99,999. The title to the vehicle indicates the fact that the odometer has exceeded its maximum threshold of 99,999. eBay lists this odometer notation as a "title problem", however any 1987 car with a 5-digit odometer is going to show this. The title is completely clear other than the notation regarding the 5-digit odometer.

There is no rust, and the paint is great. All of the chrome is also recently replaced. I've included close-up photos of the quarter panels to show the lack of any rust.

Car has custom white powder-coated wheels and exhaust tips.

Interior was also redone with new carpet, new dash cover, new seat belts, and seats reupholstered in leather. The car has an in-dash head unit which has hard-drive navigation, Sirius satellite radio built-in, CD player, and hard drive for storing MP3s. It also has an alarm with keyless entry. A/C blows cold.

The car starts up, runs, and drives great.

The car was well-maintained and there are no glaring problems of which I'm aware. I need to sell only because I now have too many cars and therefore no longer have garage space for this El Camino. It's a shame to keep such a beautiful car outside, so I'd rather sell it to a good home that has space for it.

I've included lots of photos. In the bed photo, what you're seeing is a little bit of ice from a winter storm we recently had. Like I said, I ran out of garage space for this car recently, which is why I am selling.

It also has a spray-in bedliner which is color-matched to the paint job. This is pretty rare and looks cool.

When I was referring to all of the chrome being replaced recently, I was referring to the front and rear bumpers. The around the bed trim (which isn't actual chrome) is still all original, but is in good shape. The only part of the original bed trim that looked warn was the two rear corner pieces, and as a result I replaced both of those with fresh pieces about two years ago.

The only part of the original bed trim that looked warn when I bought the car was the two rear corner pieces, and as a result I replaced both of those with fresh pieces about two years ago. Now, with those two pieces replaced, all of the trim around the top of the bed looks great.

The car has factory electronic fuel injection.

The transmission is a 700R4.

The navigation/CD/satellite radio/hard drive head unit is a JVC KD-NX5000.

Junkyard Gem: 2003 Chevrolet Tracker

Wed, May 22 2024

When General Motors created the Geo brand to sell vehicles designed and — in some cases — built by Japanese partners, the first four models were introduced for the 1989 model year: the Metro (Suzuki Cultus), Prizm (Toyota Sprinter), Spectrum (Isuzu Gemini) and Tracker (Suzuki Sidekick). Geo got the axe in 1997, with the Metro, Prizm and Tracker becoming Chevrolets. Of those, the Tracker survived the longest, with U.S.-market sales continuing into 2004. Here's an example of a very late Tracker, found in a North Carolina car graveyard recently. The 1989-1997 first-generation Trackers were based on the Suzuki Sidekick, while the 1998-2004 Trackers had the Suzuki Vitaras (not to be confused with the much grander Grand Vitaras) as their siblings. Production of these trucks for the South American market (as the Chevrolet Vitara) continued in Ecuador all the way through 2014. The Tracker name has also gone onto some versions of the Chevrolet Trax around the world. This one is a base four-door hard top/rear-wheel-drive model, which had an MSRP of $17,330. That's about $29,789 in 2024 dollars. You'll find one in every car. You'll see. The engine is a Suzuki 2.0-liter straight-four rated at 127 horsepower and 134 pound-feet. A five-speed manual was base equipment, but very few American vehicle shoppers wanted three pedals by the middle 2000s. This truck has the Aisin four-speed automatic. We like it loud. It appears that someone associated with this truck graduated from Julius L. Chambers High School last year. In the United States, the Tracker was replaced by the Saturn Vue. If Tracker can handle (unspecified Middle Eastern country), it can survive the jungle back home. Siempre contigo.

Chevy Bolt-based prototype may be a Buick EV for China

Thu, Jan 9 2020

Late last spring, we got a look at a GM prototype that was clearly based on the Chevy Bolt EV, but with updated styling. It seemed like it could be a more crossover-styled Bolt, given the recently trademarked name of EUV. Now we get another look at the prototype, but the bodywork seems less suggestive of a Chevy, and more of a Buick. This vehicle definitely still appears to be based on the Bolt, rather than on another small GM platform. In the photos of it next to the current model, the size, wheelbase and profile are extremely similar. There are differences, though. The nose isn't as sloped or as rounded, and the rear window kicks up a little earlier. The biggest changes are in the front and rear fascias, and it's here that we see hints of Buick. There are prominent air inlets on each side of the front bumper that give the car a more aggressive look. The headlights still have a fairly rounded, organic look, but with little extensions like fangs underneath. The styled running-light section, rounded shape and the smoked lenses seem very Buick-like. The grille features a large badge that doesn't fit the shape of a bow-tie, and is more that of a round logo like Buick's. Around at the back, the full-width taillights stand out, and in the middle there is obviously a round badge, again like a Buick. The wide taillights would also be a natural evolution of Buick's current light design language that uses somewhat wide and thin lights. The rear bumper has been redesigned with new lower taillights. Now that we've established that this seems very much like a Buick, we don't think we'll see this particular version offered here with the badge. This is more likely a Buick version of the Bolt for the Chinese market, where the brand is associated with luxury and has been the spearhead for GM's electric and hybrid models. In fact, the Chevy Volt hybrid was sold there as the Buick Velite 5, which was part of a family of a electrified Velite models. This would probably also carry a Velite badge as well. While we might not see this specific Buick variant, we probably will see it offered as a Chevy in some form. With its more aggressive, crossover shape, it could be the rumored EUV model. Or it could be just a refresh of the current Bolt, since the model has been largely unchanged since its introduction for the 2017 model year. And extrapolating from this prototype, we can see how the headlights could be tweaked to tie into those air scoops as on the Suburban and Silverado.

Chevy Volt 'acceptable,' Nissan Leaf 'poor' in new IIHS safety tests

Thu, Jul 31 2014

Ford C-Max Hybrid also scored "acceptable" rating. With US Nissan Leaf sales up almost 30 percent during the first half of the year, the only thing that might be able to stop the battery-electric vehicle is a good, stiff barrier. Unfortunately, thing's aren't always pretty when that happens in the real world, according to new tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Things with the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in are a little bit rosier, though. The two plug-in vehicles were part of a batch of a dozen vehicles that just went through the IIHS's "small overlap" test, in which the driver's side front corner of the vehicle is crashed into a rigid barrier at 40 miles per hour. Out of the dozen, only the Mini Cooper Countryman was given a "good" rating. Five vehicles, including the Volt and the Ford C-Max Hybrid, were rated "acceptable," two were "marginal" and two, including the Leaf, were "poor." Plug-in vehicles are unique in the crash-test context because of their relatively large battery sizes. In the Volt's case, the driver had a "low risk" of injury, said the IIHS. But the Leaf's crash substantially pushed back the instrument panel and steering column, creating a scenario where the driver was "likely" to sustain leg injuries. The batteries in both the Leaf and the Volt passed safety tests specifically targeted at things like thermo and electrical properties and overall integrity. "Nissan is proud of the Leaf's 'Good' rating in all other IIHS tests, a 4-star NCAP rating from NHTSA and its IIHS Top Safety Pick rating in all previous years since the car's release," the company said in an e-mail sent to AutoblogGreen. "As for the performance of the 2014 Leaf in the 'small overlap frontal test,' Nissan will continue to review these and other results from the IIHS 'small overlap frontal test' as we seek opportunities for improvement." Check out the IIHS's press release and small car crash-test video footage below. Range of ratings: Small car ratings run the gamut in challenging small overlap front test The Mini Cooper Countryman is the only small car to earn a good rating among the latest group of 12 cars subjected to the Institute's small overlap front crash test. Two electric models and a hybrid also are in the mix, with varied results. The electric-powered Chevrolet Volt (with a gasoline engine "range extender") earns an acceptable rating, while its battery-electric rival, the Nissan Leaf, earns a poor rating.
