Up for auction is a 1971 El Camino. This car is in great daily driver condition but is a project as well. Has a 350 with a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb., Has a noisy gear drive timing set, new header and valve cover gaskets, new header spark plugs, new fuel pump. runs great and strong. Has a turbo 350 trans with a B&M floor shifter but I do have the linkage to go back on the column. Dual exhaust with exhaust dumps if you like it loud, one wheel peel reared, car is a tire frier, has new axles and bearings, new brakes. Has rear air shocks but they do bleed down after a couple days, may need new lines. Power steering, manual drum brakes. Car needs a repaint, it appears that this car maybe got a Mayco paint job to sale quickly. I ran a magnet over whole car and it stuck good exept for passenger rear wheel well area, I looked in inspection panel and it looked like an old crease dent, car was mud textured along the rockers like they used to do in the 80's, there are rattle can color match spots along the car. Looks like car was originally mustard yellow then blue and its current yellow now. Paint is a 30 footer, not putting the car down but just want to be transparent on description. Small hole punched in metal from front passenger bumper accident some time in its life. Inner drivers side box quarter in the bed has rusted out areas. Complete floor pans replaced from toe board to back and dyno matted over, ready for carpet. Treasure box has typical rust issues. Car does not have any interior, such as no headliner, door panels, or carpet. Passenger wing window gear is broke, needs heater motor. Wheels and tires are in great shape, Front driver wheel has curb rash shown in video. Again this car runs and drives great, awesome cruiser and comfortable. I think I have covered this car pretty well but please look at photo's and watch the video and feel free to ask any questions on anything I may have overlooked. Great running project for someone, I just have way to many going. Buyer to arrange shipping but I will help with loading and such. Buyer to make a $500 deposit within 48 hours of auction end. Happy bidding!!! I will upload video shortly.

Anti-purist 1963 Ferrari GTE sports hot rod Chevy V8
Thu, Oct 8 2015I remember reading a story around the time Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift came out. It focused on one of the star cars of that film, a 1967 Ford Mustang fastback that started the film as a shell, and in a pinch, was transformed into a modified masterpiece, complete with the RB26DETT engine from a Nissan Skyline GT-R (which started the film under the hood of an S15 Silvia). There was a genuine (and in our minds, absurd) fear in the article that taking a piece of classic American iron and fitting a twin-turbocharged JDM engine would result in some awful trend in the classic car community. If you thought a GT-R-powered classic Mustang was sacrilege, though, this car will probably make you vomit. For the rest of us, it's a neat piece of engineering. Shown above is a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE, and yes, that's a 302-cubic-inch, small-block Chevrolet V8 under the hood. On top of that, it uses the six-speed manual transmission from a Viper, a nine-inch Ford rear end, and Mitsubishi-sourced paint. So yeah, it's a FrankenFerrari. Check out Road Heads' interview with this custom GTE's owner, which is followed by a brief test drive. And of course, head into Comments afterwards, and let us know what you think. Is this Yankee-powered 250 GTE blasphemous or badass?
Why the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder can be illegal in some states
Fri, 26 Sep 2014The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.
1983 Motorweek showdown pits Porsche 928S vs. Chevy Camaro Z28
Mon, Jan 12 2015Last month, Motor Trend threw the Camaro Z/28 and Porsche 911 GT3 into the bear pit and let them fight it out. Way back in 1983, MotorWeek had the same idea, comparing the Camaro Z/28 to the Porsche 928S. At the time, the Camaro was America's best selling sports coupe, the 928S was Porsche's top-of-the-line model that also had the highest top speed of any car sold here. And the price differential was even more stark then: $13,600 for the Camaro, $45,000 for the Porsche. That put the Z/28's cast-iron, 5.0-liter V8 with 190 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque against the all-aluminum 4.7-liter V8 with 234 hp and 263 lb-ft in the 928S. Even with that and the Camaro being 14 inches longer than the Porsche, the American was a surprising 40 pounds lighter than the German. The show took them to Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia to see how close a relative performance bargain could hang with a the German GT. Both had five-speed manual transmissions, but the high-speed corners and tight sections of Summit Point would test other handling variables, including the "bone-rattling" Camaro's solid rear axle and disc and drum brake setup vis-a-vis the four-wheel disc brakes and independent suspension on the "firm-but-smooth" Porsche. Paradoxically, the larger disparity 22 years ago resulted in a closer result. Check out the video to see how the Summit was won.
