1969 El Camino Roller Project Ca Car on 2040-cars

Year:1969 Mileage:99999
Location:

Ventura, California, United States

I learned long ago that there are only two ways to buy a classic vehicle.  Either find one that is completely done to a very high standard, or one that has a body that is as close to perfect that needs everything.  The ones that come back to bite you are the cars in the middle.   They start out looking pretty darn good, but to make them right, most end up with everything being replaced anyway – so you have the cost of the restoration along with a much higher initial purchase price … not a great combination.

This 1969 El Camino is at the right end of the spectrum if your intention is to start your project off with a nice foundation.  It’s a 45 year old California car that is not perfect (none of them are), but it’s about as nice a roller as you’ll find for the price.  This El Camino is unique in two ways.  The first is that the data plate shows that this one was a factory V-8, 4 speed with bucket seats and console finished in blue ( I forget which blue, marina or lemans, but you can still see it on the floor pan pictures) with a black interior.  This was NOT a big block SS, it rolled of the line in ’69 equipped with a small block.  It also has the optional SS gauge package – I have no idea if the car was optioned that way, or it was added somewhere along the line without seeing a copy of the build sheet, but nonetheless it’s there.  The second unique feature on this one is the condition of the bed.  Most of these saw some pretty heavy work use, and the beds on 98% of them are dented, gouged, and generally beat to death.  This one has the best bed I’ve run across – the floor, inner wheel tubs, and front wall are in amazing shape (look at the pictures carefully).  Additionally, the left rear lower window channel is not rusted out!  I don’t know that I’ve ever seen one that isn’t.

The car is 95% rust free.  The only areas I can find are the lower front fender bottoms (they all rust there from trapped debris), and a couple of pin holes on the driver’s side floor in the wire harness channel.  It’s not even enough to patch in a new 2” piece – a little Por-15 putty and it’s good to go.  The front fenders need lower patch panels, but with the cost of re-pops, I was planning on that route.  All depends on the budget.  The cowl hood is new, the hood hinges, and inner tailgate panel are included but not shown.  A dreaded prior owner cut the shifter opening, so a new re-popped tower needs to be installed.  Somewhere in the past, somebody did some work on the rear wheel opening lips.  Looks ok, but if you have to have perfection, I would go with the re-pop patch panels for $60 each.

The car was and still has its original drum brakes on all 4 corners.  It was equipped with no A/C, but does have a power steering box.  Please review the pictures closely.  What you see is what you get.  It obviously does NOT have an engine or transmission.  The tires are junk but will hold air for transport.  It is easy to roll and steer, so loading and unloading will not be a problem.

The car has a clean California title (NO SALVAGE), and is on non-op status so any California bidders need not worry about any back fees.  I have a few too many projects ahead of this, but I will regret letting this one get way because finding another in this condition is getting near impossible anymore.  The front sheet metal is just hanging for pictures, so the fenders and hood will be packed in the bed for secure shipping.

Please ask all your question PRIOR to placing a bid.  A $500 deposit via Paypal is required at the time of auction close, with the balance due in 5 days.   The reserve is set very low, so please don’t ask what it is because it’s just not fair to other bidders.  I don’t sell outside of ebay, and since there is no best offer option, any emails along those lines are just ignored.  If it’s something you want, just bid what you feel it’s worth.  I do have a local offer on this, so if doesn’t sell on this first go-around it won’t be relisted.

Please ask your wife, kids, neighbors, spiritual advisor, or parole officer prior to placing a bid.  The vehicle is sold as a project that is being purchased AS IS, WHERE IS, and WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.  The deposit placed at the conclusion of the auction is NON-REFUNDABLE for any reason and once the auction closes, the high bidder IS the new owner.  The vehicle must be picked up within 2 weeks of auction close.

Happy bidding and thanks for taking a look!

GMC Hummer EV SUV first drive, RIP Camaro, Ferrari Roma Spider | Autoblog Podcast # 773

Fri, Mar 24 2023

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by News Editor Joel Stocksdale. They start off with one of the week's biggest official news items — the impending death of the sixth-gen Chevrolet Camaro. On the subject of powerful American cars, they pivot to a teaser from Stellantis execs that there are big things ahead for its Dodge Charger SRT Daytona Banshee concept. From there, they look at Ferrari's new topless Roma and then get into Ford's multi-billion-dollar electric vehicle pivot. Speaking of expensive EVs, Joel just got back from driving the new GMC Hummer SUV. He also had the new F-150 Lightning Pro in his driveway, and that's followed by Greg's update on Autoblog's long-term Toyota Sienna.  Autoblog Podcast # 773 Get The Podcast Apple Podcasts – Subscribe to the Autoblog Podcast in iTunes Spotify – Subscribe to the Autoblog Podcast on Spotify RSS – Add the Autoblog Podcast feed to your RSS aggregator MP3 – Download the MP3 directly Rundown News Chevrolet Camaro production will officially end after 2024 model year Dodge CEO teases more to come from Charger SRT Daytona Banshee Ferrari Roma Spider returns a front-engined soft top to the lineup Ford Model e losing billions as it says EV unit should be seen as startup What we're driving Ford F-150 Lightning Pro 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV 2023 Toyota Sienna Platinum AWD Feedback Email – Podcast@Autoblog.com Review the show on Apple Podcasts Autoblog is now live on your smart speakers and voice assistants with the audio Autoblog Daily Digest. Michael Jordan's cars showcased in 'The Last Dance' documentary

Sun, May 10 2020

After the masses begged and pleaded for an early release, ESPN finally unlocked the doors to the biggest production in company history last month. Episodes 1 and 2 of The Last Dance, a 10-part documentary special about Michael Jordan, the Chicago Bulls, and the 1997-1998 season, was released at last on April 19, 2020. Each week since, two new episodes have aired on Sunday nights, and the next two, episodes 7 and 8 are scheduled to drop this weekend on May 10. With unprecedented video access to MJ, who became averse to the media during his playing days, a byproduct from The Last Dance is a look at some of Jordan's cars. The Goat's taste ranges across a number of brands, but they all had one thing in common: performance as a top priority. Below, we have listed the rides that have already appeared in the series, and each week, we will update with new car cameos. Chevrolet Corvette C4 The photo above somewhat epitomizes one of the themes of The Last Dance. Everybody, whether that was men, women, children, franchise owners, reporters, coaches, teammates, or opponents, wanted a piece of Jordan. If that meant stopping in the middle of the road to get an autograph, then so be it. Around town, MJ was fairly easy to spot due to his flashy cars that occasionally wore Bulls red. Jordan has driven numerous Corvettes throughout the years, but the C4 is unique in that it was Chevy's top ride when Jordan signed an endorsement deal with the American company during his rookie year in 1984. Two famous photos, one in front of the Chicago skyline, show him standing next to a C4 with the license plate "Jump 23." This exact car, however, came later, as indicated by the squared-off taillights. He went on to star in a number of Chevrolet commercials with vehicles such as the Blazer and S-10 pickup truck. Chevrolet Corvette C5 The most notable Corvette His Airness ever owned was likely the C4 40th Anniversary ZR-1, but he also drove a C5 coupe at one point. Roughly nine minutes into the first episode, Jordan is seen driving the chrome-wheeled targa top into the parking lot at the Berto Center, the Bulls old practice facility.   Ferrari 550 Maranello Roughly three minutes into episode four, viewers get a glimpse of Jordan's exotic taste in the form of a red Ferrari 550 Maranello.

GM learning from current Chevy Volt owners as it works on next-gen model

Tue, Sep 16 2014

Details of the second-generation Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in hybrid are coming in at a trickle, and the latest is that the 2016 model-year Volt will be improved in all meaningful areas, including performance and all-electric range, says General Motors powertrain director Larry Nitz. 60 percent of Volt customers only charge using a standard 110 outlet. Nitz was speaking to Autoline After Hours about the current and future Volt. He said that GM has been tracking Volt driving habits and found that about two-thirds of the Volts' collective miles are driven in electric mode, and that 81 percent of all Volt trips were done in pure EV mode. Additionally, Volt drivers plug the car in 10 times each week, on average. Nitz also said 82 percent of the Volt's commuting miles are coming from the plug instead of the gas tank. Oh, and 60 percent of Volt customers only charge using a standard 110 outlet. Last month, GM released a teaser shot of the 2016 Volt (above) and said the car would make its worldwide debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show next January. Earlier this year, the Volt was reported to be getting a new chassis for the upcoming version. The Volt could use a bit of new life. Through August, Volt sales were down 12 percent from a year earlier to 13,146 units, and sales plunged 25 percent alone. That compares unfavorably to the Nissan Leaf battery-electric vehicle, whose 2014 sales have jumped 34 percent to almost 19,000 units. You can see Nitz dish the goods in the video below (Volt comments start at around minute 15). You will also notice AutoblogGreen contributor Gary Witzenburg talk about his history with the EV1 and share his take on the Volt. This content is hosted by a third party.
