Chevrolet Corvette Removable Hard Top on 2040-cars
Springfield, Illinois, United States
1960 Corvette. Dark Red, Red interior. White Coves. Original colors were Roman Red per the markings found during restoration. We bought this car totally disassembled and in boxes in the late ‘80s and then stored it for another 10 years. We reassembled and restored it in 1997/98. Less than 1000 miles on the car since putting it back on the road. It has been stored in a dry climate controlled garage for the last 15 years, with very little driving to a few car shows and parades. Interior is all new from the restoration and still looks brand new. New seat springs, cushions and covers. Seat frames were blasted and painted. New carpet and dash pad installed. New door panels, kick panels and sun visors. New dash wiring harness installed. All gages are original and working well. The tachometer is functional but not currently hooked up. Soft top frame has been restored and is rust free. The soft top fabric has not been stretched over the frame. It is still in the box from several years ago. All interior is top quality Al Knoch materials. A newer Corvette AM/FM radio and speaker are in the car. Original Wonderbar radio and speaker are included in the trunk. Paint is in good shape and is driver quality. There are a few blemishes where the paint has flaked and been touched up. They are small, about the size of a dime. Shines nice and this color gets a lot of attention at the shows. All chrome and stainless steel have been polished and look very good. Some pitting on the door pillars. Bumpers and grill look great and are original condition. The lower cove trim pieces are missing. I might have them in a box, but not sure anymore. All other chrome and stainless pieces are in place on the car. Side windows are original and in great shape. Windshield and rubber seals were replaced when the restoration was done. The car has been sitting for several years, so the paint and interior could use a little cleaning to shine everything up. Engine is a 327 NOM. It runs strong. I started the car for the first time in over a year this weekend with a new battery and it started instantly with the first key turn. I believe the 4 speed trans is original but I do not have the numbers from when we restored the car. Assume it is not original. Plenty of power and great sound from the engine and exhaust. The engine bay is dirty from sitting so long. The car could use a tune up and more regular use, but it’s a great starting point for you to enjoy driving. New engine bay wiring harness installed during the restoration. Ignition kill switch added for anti-theft. Frame is solid, cleaned and painted during the restoration. The rear cross bar is solid where most have rusted out or been replaced. New exhaust installed from manifolds back during the restoration. Original drum brakes. We replaced the brake lines and wear items during the restoration but it’s been so long and the car had been sitting that I would not trust the brakes as is. That is the one area I think needs a little attention to make the car road worthy right now. The rear end of the body seems to sag a little from sitting. No rubbing but the rear suspension may need some attention down the road. Tires and Cragar rims are virtually brand new with less than 1000 miles. I see incomplete cars without their drive train selling for $30K. Numbers matching show pieces easily bring $70K to over $100K. This car is a deal for someone that wants a solid driver that they can put a little work into to keep improving it.

Chevy Silverado Midnight Edition, Custom ready to stand out in pickup line
Thu, Feb 12 2015Chevrolet spent its Chicago Auto Show introducing a pair of fullsize pickups that promise image-conscious buyers a truck experience that goes beyond the standard range, with the murdered-out Midnight Edition and the um, not murdered-out, Custom. Let's start with the Custom, which adds 20-inch alloys, as well as chrome bumpers, mirror caps and door handles to the Silverado LS. Available in both V6 and V8 varieties, and with the customer's choice of two- or four-wheel drive, the Silverado Custom is the decidedly mellower example of Chevy's special edition styling. The Midnight Edition, meanwhile, throws subtlety out the window with a menacing set of visual upgrades. Based on the Z71, the Midnight adds 18-inch wheels, a spray-in bedliner and unique Z71 and Bowtie badges, all in black, of course. The front and rear bumpers, headlamp bezels, tow hooks, mirror caps and door handles, are also finished in the stealthy shade. Check out our live images of both special edition trucks, and let us know what you think down in Comments.
Here's how Detroit is selling more luxury vehicles than Germany and Japan
Sun, Dec 14 2014Now there's an attention-grabbing headline, eh? Although the answer to the riddle - pickup trucks and SUVs - might be somehow deflating, the numbers involved deserve a going over. According to TrueCar's figures (click on the table to enlarge), six of the year's ten best-selling vehicles in the US that sell for a transaction price above $50,000 are body-on-frame, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the only foreigner to crack the top five. Every enthusiast knows that pickup trucks are 'Murica's most popular vehicle by a colossal margin, and there have been plenty of reports about the popularity of luxuriously appointed trucks and SUVs, but compare these figures from TrueCar: 70 percent of Chevrolet Tahoe sales have a transaction price above $50K, and The Bowtie is expected to make $3.9 billion in revenue on 66,945 predicted high-dollar sales; 95.1 percent of E-Class sales break $50K, so the German company will make $4.0 billion on 67,006 predicted sales in that pricing sphere. It's about the only time you'll see the Tahoe ranked right next to Mercedes' bread-and-butter sedan. Ram is ahead of those two with $4.2B coming from $50K-plus sales. The Ford F-Series does almost as much revenue as the next three combined, with an expected $10.8 billion coming from sales of trucks over $50K - more than a quarter of the model's total sales, when a base F-150 can be had for about $26,000. Yes, the Germans make a lot more money on fewer sales, but considering the comparison, the bottom line isn't too troubled by such facts. Weighing like-for-like, the full-size Ford walks it in every category; elsewhere, the Chevrolet Silverado outsells the Ram, but the Ram outsells the Chevy by 6.7 percent above $50K. And for all the flak GMC takes over swapping out grilles, the Sierra also outsells the Chevy in the well-appointed segment, 16.1 percent of sales versus 11 percent – the Professional Grade brand is a huge profit center for The General. You'll find more info in the TrueCar press release below. TrueCar finds pickup trucks far outsell premium brands among top 10 vehicles over $50,000 Ford F-Series pickup sales over $50,000 surpass combined BMW 3, 5, 7 Series luxury car sales SANTA MONICA, Calif. (December 10, 2014) - TrueCar, Inc., the negotiation-free car buying and selling platform, finds mainstream pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles dominate U.S.
Chevy monitors drivers' biometrics while experiencing new Corvette Stingray
Fri, 25 Oct 2013We tell you about what a car is like to drive every day, remarking on throttle response, steering weight and feedback, squat, dive, brake fade and a dozen or more other factors of performance. What we can't tell you, though, is what the car does to us - how its performance impacts us, physically. That's what makes this video series from Chevrolet so darn cool.
The Bow-Tie brand rented out Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, got several (very) different individuals together, strapped a bunch of sensors to their bodies to record biometric data ranging from heart rate to respiration to brain activity, and then handed them keys to the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The results are explained in a series of videos, devoted to each driver, showing how different people react to the Corvette's performance.
If, like your author, you're a nerd for medical science, this is going to be a fascinating set of videos. If not, it's still pretty cool to see how the body of someone with racing experience, like Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, reacts to tracking a car like the Corvette Stingray compared to the owner of legendary Detroit barbecue joint, Slows BBQ. Take a look below for all six videos from the series, or hop over to the Corvette Vimeo channel for the interactive experience, where you can see all the different metrics.
