You are looking at a first year hard top Corvette.  It is a rare FRC model (Fixed Roof Coupe).  The FRC was first offered in 1999 and just over 4000 units were built.  They were only offered in Black, Red, or White, and only with a 6 speed stick and black interior.  Only 1227 black models were made.  The FRC became the chassis for the ZO6 in 2001.  I purchased this in 1999 and have been the only owner and driver.  I have maintained it as an original factory car.  It had Wet Okole seat covers on both seats until last year, so leather is brand new.  Carpets and floor mats are perfect.  No flaws or damages at all in the interior.  It is clean throughout.  Outside paint is as perfect as it can be.  There are a couple of small nicks, one from a stone on the nose under the license plate, and one from the handle of the garage door on the rear panel just above the license plate.  Both are touched up and hard to notice.  Paint has been cared for with 3M products for swirl removal and buffing, Finish First for polishing.  Wheels are the  original alloy but have been chrome dipped for a beautiful finish.  Tires are Toyo Proxes T1R with 2000 easy miles on them.  Brakes are upgraded to ceramic pads.  System flushed every two years.  Oil has always been Mobil 1, changed spring and fall.  Only changes to stock is the air intake to a K&N cold air box (I have all of the original parts boxed) and a Cat Back Stainless Steel 4" Billy Boat exhaust that gives the car a mellow purr on normal driving, but with a raspy bark on acceleration, very nice.  All windows are tinted black and  both license plates are behind tinted Plexiglas covers.  Car looks like a shiny black panther ready to leap.  Drives great with very tame clutch.  Acceleration is impressive and handling is extremely stable at any speed.  In fact, the faster it goes, the better it handles.  Has traction control and can be turned off with a push button on the console.  The car can get 31-32 mpg on the highway in 6th gear.  Around town with normal driving gets 19-22 mpg. Not bad for a performance car.  Gotta love the 6 speed stick.   This car could become more valuable as the first ever Corvette FRC.  I've maintained it with that in mind.  It is also a great driver, so you choose.  This car has never had to deal with bad weather.  Only in rain a couple of times, never in snow or wind.  Always kept in a climate controlled garage with my other babies.  Always washed with soft water.  Sale includes a 3 volume factory shop manual (never used), fitted car cover, mats, jack pucks.  Time to move on and make room for something else.  I'll be sad to see him go.  Still excites me every time I get behind the wheel.  Buy this car with confidence that you are getting a show room condition Corvette that turns heads everywhere.  Contact me with any questions or requests.  I'm also happy to make the car available for inspections.  BTW; In 2005 it won best in class at the famous Vettes in the Rockies in Breckenridge, Colorado.  It looks exactly the same today.  Cheers.....Les  (Did I mention only 1227 were made???)

Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.

GM adds 1,200 jobs at Detroit-Hamtramck plant

Thu, Oct 22 2015

General Motors is making a big move at its Hamtramck, MI, factory, announcing it will add a second shift and hire over 1,200 workers within the next several months. It's expected that by early 2016, the factory will employ over 2,800 workers to build the Chevrolet Volt, Impala, Malibu, Cadillac ELR, and by early next year, the new CT6. According to GM Hamtramck spokesperson Courtney Zemke, 40 of the 1,200 positions are for salaried employees, while the remainder will be hourly positions. As for where these employees will go, positions are being made available across the factory, so GM isn't focusing on any particular area for its new hires. It's a similar story behind the hiring surge itself. GM said in its press release that the "second shift is necessary to meet forecasted market demand," a position Zemke reiterated. It's a matter of demand across the plant's portfolio, rather than any one particular product seriously outstripping supply. Naturally, the United Auto Workers is happy with the move. "The workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck is second to none," UAW Local 22 Shop Chairman Don LaForest said in the attached release. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our UAW-GM family." Hiring is going on now, with the second shift slated to get underway in early 2016. GM's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly to Add Second Shift and More Than 1,200 Jobs Plant will nearly double its workforce by early 2016 2015-10-22 DETROIT – General Motors is nearly doubling its workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly by adding a second shift and more than 1,200 hourly and salaried jobs. The addition of a second shift will increase the plant's workforce to approximately 2,800 people when hiring is completed. The second shift is necessary to meet forecasted market demand for the five cars produced at Detroit-Hamtramck. "This is the result of the award-winning vehicles Detroit-Hamtramck produces and the confidence GM has in our team to build world-class quality for our customers," said Plant Manager Gary West. Second shift hiring is underway, and the shift is scheduled to begin operations in early 2016. "The workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck is second to none," said UAW Local 22 Shop Chairman Don LaForest. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our UAW-GM family." The 4.1 million-square-foot Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly opened in 1985. GM has invested $1 billion in the plant over the last six years, making it one of the company's most-agile manufacturing facilities in North America.

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.
