1998 Chevy Corvette convertible I can and will e-mail more pics upon request

The first picture is how the car looked before IPS got a hold of it. I added a couple pics they sent me as Livernois was building the engine. And one picture of what IPS did on their joy ride when they were suppose to be breaking in the engine.

Totaled - not by me, I took it to IPS Motorsports in Columbus, Ohio. They dropped in a brand new LS3 fully built (details below) and a new clutch. They were putting break in miles on it before dyno tune and the guy was hot rodding it joy ride and threw it into a brick mailbox enclosure. There insurance was going to repair the car b/c of all modifications that was done it was worth a considerable amount. I did not want the car back, I wanted an untotaled car like what I had. They weren't going to do that. My attorney got the car totaled at a lesser value so I could get more out of it (since I got nothing out of IPS). So here it is forsale. The price of reserve is less than what the engine has in it. Basically buying a full built complete brand new engine and getting a car with it for less than what the engine alone is worth.

Engine -

  • LS3 Darton Sleeved Block
  • Manley Forged Crankshaft
  • Diamond Forged Pistons
  • Total Seal Steel Rings
  • Trend Heavy Wall Wrist Pins
  • Clevite Coated Bearings
  • ARP Main Studs

  • Sleeved
  • Deck Plate Honed
  • Align Honed
  • Main and Rod Clearances Set
  • Stroker Clearance on Block
  • Radius/Prep Block
  • Balance Crankshaft
  • Prep Block Oil Passages
  • Prep Crankshaft Oil Holes
  • Fully Assembled

This car also has custom paint on hood and decklid (no good), The hood is good still, Ghost C5 emblem on it. The front bumper shaved emblem and license filler is molded in. Along with functional z06 screens in front bumper and function rear z06 screens, Ace Slick Z07 wheels, 2" adapter on rears for L5 Flares, slotted and cross drilled zink coated rotors all 4 corners, and blacked out front turn signals. ACI front ground effect with a ONE OF A KIND ACI SAVER / SPLITTER, it is made out of stainless steel. Car is lowered 1.5". 19x11 rear (one needs replaced) 18x9.5 front

As the car sits... This would make a great start to a Factory 5 five Racing GTM car. All front end suspension is good. Most of body is good besides Doors needing some repair along with convertible lid cover and the passenger L5 quarter and rear bumper. Decklid and driver quarter need replaced. The car can't be started. The lower bell housing along with full exhaust (minus headers), drive line cover and anti sway bar IPS still has. Don't ask me how they can get away with that but they did.

This car was an all out show car for me. I only took it on nice days to work and took it to shows. I did not race the car. I don't know what all would take to rebuild it. It is more work than it's worth to me. That is why I am selling it as a car but you buy the engine and get the car with it. If someone were to buy the car and part it out, I don't doubt that they could get double the price they buy it for. I'm not in for parting a car though, it takes forever and I just want it gone. If there are any questions please e-mail me thru ebay. I reserve the right to sell locally. And buyer handles all shipping/towing. Thank you.

The U-2 spy plane needs high-performance cars to help land

Thu, Oct 15 2015

Typically, aircraft deploy their landing gear from three main points. Most military aircraft, for example, deploy two gears at the back and one forward, like a tricycle. Some civilian aircraft flip the layout, with two in front and one in back - tail-draggers. The U-2 Dragon Lady is wildly different than any of these. With a 103-foot wingspan but a body that's just 63-feet long, the layout of the U-2 makes a traditional landing setup infeasible. Instead, the U-2 utilizes a pair of wheels, one up front and one in back. With such a bizarre layout, landings are so tough that since the U-2's earliest flights at Area 51, the US Air Force has used high-performance chase cars to guide the pilot down safely. The landing process isn't over there, though. As this video from Sploid shows, balancing out the aircraft to fit the detachable "pogos" – think training wheels for spy planes – is a comical procedure requiring a number of airman using their full body weight to even out the U-2. This video also recaps some of the great vehicles that have served as chase vehicles for this legendary spy plane. They include Chevrolet El Caminos, and the Fox-body Ford Mustangs so favored by the California Highway Patrol. For the last several years, the USAF has utilized products from General Motors, using fourth-generation Chevy Camaros, before switching over to the Pontiac GTO and most recently, the awesome Pontiac G8. It's fair to say that if you're a gearhead in the Air Force, this is the job you want. Check out the video, embedded up top. GM Recalls 218,000 Chevy Aveo Models Over Fire-Prone Lighting

Wed, May 21 2014

The recall train keeps on rolling for General Motors. Hot on the heels of its recent 2.4 million-vehicle recall of various models, it's now calling in 218,000 Chevrolet Aveo units from the 2004-2008 model years because they could catch fire. The problem concerns the daytime running light module in the instrument panel. It could overheat, melt and cause a fire. According to GM spokesperson Alan Adler, "We are aware of some fires," and the company "is still investigating." Adler wouldn't comment about how many fires were reported or when the automaker was first aware of this issue because of the ongoing analysis. However, he said the issue has not caused any injuries or fatalities. GM also doesn't have a fix for the problem with the DRL module yet. The company says in its recall statement to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the remedy "is still under development." Adler wasn't sure when it would be ready, but he said Aveo owners would receive notification in the mail "relatively soon." They will receive a second letter later to schedule the repair. In a separate letter about the Aveo's problem to NHTSA (viewable here as a PDF), GM said its Executive Field Action Decision Committee decided to conduct the recall on May 16. Scroll down for the recall report. RECALL Subject : Daytime Running Light Module Overheating Report Receipt Date: MAY 19, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V261000 Component(s): Potential Number of Units Affected: 218,000 Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Aveo vehicles equipped with daytime running lights (DRL). In the affected vehicles, there may be heat generated within the DRL module located in the center console in the instrument panel, which could melt the DRL module. CONSEQUENCE: If the DRL module melts due to the heat generation, it could cause a vehicle fire. REMEDY: The remedy for this recall campaign is still under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). General Motors recall number for this campaign is 14236. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

General Motors Recalls Nearly 780,000 Cars To Fix Deadly Problem

Thu, Feb 13 2014

General Motors is recalling nearly 780,000 compact cars in North America because the engines can shut down unexpectedly and cause crashes. The company says six people have been killed in crashes related to the problem. The recall affects Chevrolet Cobalts and Pontiac G5s from the 2005 through 2007 model years. U.S. safety regulators say the weight of the key ring and rough roads can move the ignition switch out of the run position, cutting the engine and electricity. If that happens, air bags may not work. GM says there have been 22 crashes from the problem. All happened at high speeds. Dealers will replace the ignition switch for free. GM says owners should remove nonessential items from key rings until the problem is fixed.
