This auction is for my 1998 Corvette Convertible which is a triple black with black z06 rims.  Exterior/Interior/Top black.  As much as i do not want to sell this car, I have bought a couple of fixer upper houses that are in need of more cash then originally thought.  Let me start with the bads which are few:

1.  Cars paint is better then ok but is faded in the back some, and to be honest i would overall give it a 6.5 out of 10
2.  Air conditioning is in need of a $300 fix (has a failing seal) price was quoted at the Hot Rod Barn in Morris.  I personally dont care about the air as i dont drive in the rain and most of the time have the top down.
3.  Top has a leak around the rear window which could be fixed with hot glue but eventually will need replaced.
HONESTLY THAT IS ALL THE BADS!

Now for the goods:

1.  I purchased this car a little over a year ago for $11,000 and last August 2012 had the engine, transmission, rear end completely rebuilt and beefed up from the cars original 350 hp to nearly 500 hp (485 dyno tested).  The engine was re-done using the best of parts by The Hot Rod Barn (professional speed shop).  Every single part that had updates since the original build on the car was done (in other words when the car was originally built in 1998 there were parts that were not as good as some that are available now and i had all of them updated!  Engine has a custom low lobe cam, dont hear it leaving others to think your stock (but the car is far from stock).  I also had a $700 custom torque converter built for the car, the benifits to this converter is you only loose 15% hp from the crank to the rear tires which unlike stock Vettes that loose 38%, what this means to you is lightning fast take offs and excellerated shifting through the gears.  This is about a 12.4 sec car.  The transmission as well was 100% rebuilt and the rear diff was re-sealed, cleaned and tested.  Now for the big surprise, which is the baddest exhaust system, i had American Racing Longtube ceramic headers installed and Stainless Works axle back exhaust ($1800 for the headers and $975 for the mufflers).  The car sounds like a dragster at take off and when getting on it but purrs like a kitten when driving or cruising.  I have got as much as 45 mpg while traveling on the interstates and as much as 35 in town.  Total cost of the rebuild and exhaust system $15,000 and worth every penny.  Brakes are in very good condition and the tires also only have 7500 miles on them (so they are practically new).

If you are looking for a fast car, that you can jump in and honestly take anywhere in the country over and over again, this is it!  The cars body has 155K on it but lets face it we all worry about the mechanics of a car as that is what costs a fortune to fix and fix correctly.  I chose The Hot Rod Barn to do my car because they had quite a few award winning Bloomington Gold Corvettes, not to mention show stopping restorations and some of the fastest times on the track.  While I have never raced this car I can say that I have had it going over 125 mph and had a lot of pedal left for more fun.  I have never done a burnout on in this and keep traction control on so that it will not do a burnout but do know it is capable of doing just about anything.  If you want to hear the exhaust you or you want to talk to me about the car call me at 815-663-8148.

While other cars on ebay may have better paint, mechanically there isnt one close!  There is a number of mechanical issues that the stock car has which have all been fixed and upgraded on this one.  I also had a brand new $700 starter put into this, new water pump.  Other cars that claim 70k miles have no upgrades and have been sitting causing the seals to be weak, mine has new everything mechanical and i would be more then happy to give you the number to the Hot Rod Barn where i had all the work done.

CASH ONLY AT TIME OF PICK UP - PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS NEED TO BE MADE AT THE END OF AUCTION, ALL PAYMENTS HAVE TO BE MADE 3 DAYS FROM PURCHASE.

Car is located in Spring Valley, Illinois 61362 - NOTE I AM NOT INTERESTED IN A HARLEY AND REALLY DO NOT WANT TO DO ANY TRADES UNLESS IT IS PROFESSIONAL WOODWORKING EQUIPMENT (BAND SAW, 12" OR WIDER JOINTER, PANEL ROUTER, CNC)

Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures

Tue, Jun 23 2020

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski  Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.

Final C6 Corvette built in Bowling Green

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

With all of the attention given to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray lately, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's already well along in production, yet tooling up for the new C7 has only just begun. In fact, production of the outgoing C6 generation in Bowling Green, Kentucky just halted on Thursday.
As the C6 has aged, production numbers have predictably ebbed along with demand, but this year, the addition of the 427 and 60th anniversary models resulted in an uptick in vehicles built - this, despite a model year shortened by around 25 percent to accomodate the new model changeover. The final C6 Corvette ever, No. 13,466 built this year, was a white 427 Convertible destined for the General Motors Heritage Center museum. The car's 7.0-liter V8 heart was assembled by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter himself.
In total, Bowling Green pushed out 215,100 C6 Corvettes over nine years. If you're still a C6 fan at heart and are hoping to get a good deal on a phase-out model, step lively - Chevrolet reportedly had about 6,100 unsold units, which Autoweek suggests is good for around five and a half months of supply at the model's current sales rates. Given that demand will likely slacken even further as the C7 draws closer, that should be a big enough stockpile to keep dealers satisfied until 2014 Stingrays begin showing up on their forecourts in December.

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
