1986 Corvette on 2040-cars
Fargo, North Dakota, United States
This is a nice Corvette, that I would like to keep, however my financial situation requires that I must sell it. It has approximately 82,000 miles on it. We acquired it at 72,000 miles from the owner at the time in Atlantic City, NJ, so there is very minimal surface rust on exposed metal parts on the underside (basically rust free) It had a spun bearing so we trailered it back to North Dakota and then completely dismantled and steamed pressured/boiled the block and rebuilt the entire engine with new GM parts, with the exception of the injectors which are Borg Warner Ford, which are better and make for faster acceleration than the GM Corvette injectors due to better atomization utilizing 3 orifices as opposed to a single one for Corvette. Mileage in town average 14-15 mpg and country as high as 21/23 for a combined 17/19. The tires are in fair to good condition. The plexiglass top (removable and storable in the back hatch) is speckled due to aging but still strong and functional. The A/C has been converted to 134 and works very well as does the heating system. It has the high pressure oil system so even at idle it doesn't get below 40#'s and normally is 60#'s or more at higher revolutions, if my memory is right. It's meant to take high HP output for extended periods of time. The cooling fans for the radiator doesn't come on until 229 degrees and works flawlessly. (high oil pressure and high engine heat equals optimum performance). I put a remanufactured rack and pinion on it due to leaking. The Vette came factory equipped with high performance suspension so the ride is a bit choppy but has excellent handling qualities. The tires are the larger 255's. I replaced the Corvette valve covers with regular GM covers as they add some color to the under the hood set up. It has a Sony am/fm/CD radio and retractable radio antennae. There are two places on the body where I did a touch up on the paint or fiberglass. Above the right wheel well the fiberglass was chipped so I filled it in with Bondo and sprayed a fairly close match, but one day a professional should touch it up. On the right rear, near the taillight, paint had chipped off so I spray painted that and got it close, but again a professional could fix it up better. The headlight assemblies work perfectly. The blue color was relatively rare for that year. The photos I've attached were taken last summer so the mileage is showing higher than in the dash photo. Photos with the Vette on the trailer is when we brought it back from New Jersey in January of 09. The photos also show the blems that I mentioned earlier that I have since covered up but should be retouched by a professional and that is the area over the right wheel well and the rear tail light right side. It's a fun Vette to drive, it sounds nice and will get you from point A to point B rather fast if you need to. If you need assistance in delivery I may be able to help you in this regard for a nominal fee, my phone number is 701-238-1695. The Vette is presently in covered storage, so arrangements should be made in advance so the vehicle can be taken out. I can store the vehicle for up to 3 months, but of course full payment within 7 days of sale. Note: Because the Vette is in storage, I'm using my memory on mileage, but I believe this to be close to 82,000+ which is actual. The Vette has been stored inside most of it's life so the paint still looks pretty good. I did a NADA blue book and it show that the low retail is $7227.00. The average retail is $11590.00 and high retail is $19530.00. I feel the value is somewhere between the average and the high, when you read the descriptions for what those ratings are, so probably around $15000.00.

GM investing $167m in Spring Hill for new midsize vehicles
Tue, 06 Aug 2013General Motors has announced a large investment in its Spring Hill, Tennessee facility. The former home of Saturn production will be getting a $167 million addition to a previously announced $183 million, to cover a pair of new midsize vehicles. The investment is expected to create 1,800 jobs at the factory.
That $350 million is being divvied up for a pair of programs at Spring Hill. The first will take the bulk of the money ($223 million) and create 1,000 of the 1,800 jobs, while the other will take the remaining $127 million and generate the leftover 800 positions. But GM says the investment will cover "midsize vehicle programs." So what could they be?
The leading candidate in our minds is a new crossover for Buick, called the Anthem, that will slot between the Encore and Enclave, but will be slightly smaller than the Equinox and Terrain. As we've explained, the new model will likely be the first product to sport GM's new D2UX platform, which will eventually replace both the Delta and Theta platforms. Spring Hill is already building the Equinox, so there could be some credence to this theory.
Cadillac could base its entry-level sedan on the Chevy Cruze [UPDATE]
Wed, Apr 27 2016UPDATE: Cadillac spokesperson Donny Nordlicht tells Autoblog , "The post speculating on a future Cadillac model derived from the Chevrolet Cruze is completely false." Premium automakers Mercedes-Benz and Audi have seen plenty of success with new small front-drive-based sedans. The CLA-Class had its best January ever this year, while Audi moved more of its new A3 in 2015 than its predecessor sold in 2005 through 2010 combined. The fact that Cadillac wants a piece of that pie is no surprise, then. There's a new rumor that GM's luxury brand could launch its own compact – possibly called CT2 – to battle the Germans. Cadillac, a brand that's pushed hard to rebuild its rear-drive reputation, could develop a new entry-level model based on the front-wheel-drive 2016 Chevrolet Cruze's D2XX platform. Go ahead and make your Cimarron jokes. Sources are telling GM Inside News that a Cadillac built on the Delta platform would ditch the Cruze's turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder for a 1.5-liter turbo in base models. General Motors' well received 2.0-liter turbo four would serve in higher-end models. According to GMIN, the Delta-based Cadillac would likely command a $6,000 to $9,000 premium over the Cruze, so figure $23,000 to $26,000 on the low end to $30,000 to $33,000 for something at the top of the range. As much as we dislike the kind of badge engineering that brought us the Cavalier-based Cadillac Cimarron in the '80s, the company has done an admirable job of distinguishing vehicles on shared platforms lately. A Delta-platform Cadillac would at least have a good basis – the new Cruze is surprisingly comfy. That said, we question GM's rationale if this rumor is indeed true. Put simply, Cadillac needs another sedan like I need another student loan payment. The company has four sedans, three of which overlap two segments, and none of which are selling very well. That's not because they're bad, but because customers want crossovers, of which Caddy has but one – the new XT5. Spending the time and money to add a fifth sedan to the mix when the company desperately needs to flesh out its CUV range would be a tremendous mistake. As much as we hate to say it, if Cadillac really wants to add a small, entry-level car to its range, it'd better be a crossover. Related Video:
The USPS needs 180,000 new delivery vehicles, automakers gearing up to bid
Wed, Feb 18 2015Winning the New York City Taxi of Tomorrow tender was a huge prize for Nissan, even though the company is still working through the process of claiming its prize. The United States Postal Service has begun the process to take bids for a new delivery vehicle to replace the all-too-familiar Grumman Long Life Vehicle, and that will be a much larger plum for the automaker who wins it, perhaps worth more than six billion dollars. The Grumman LLV is an aluminum body covering a Chevrolet S-10 pickup chassis and General Motors' Iron Duke four-cylinder engine. The USPS bought them from 1987 to 1994, and the 163,000 of them still in service are a monumental drain on postal resources: they get roughly ten miles to the gallon instead of the quoted 16 mpg, drink up more than $530 million in fuel each year, and their constant repair needs like the balky sliding door and leaky windshields have led the service to increase the annual maintenance budget from $100 million to $500 million. A seat belt is about as modern as it gets for safety technology, and the USPS says that assuming things stay the same, it can't afford to run them beyond 2017. Last year it put out two triage requests for proposals seeking 10,000 new chassis and drivetrains for the Grumman and 10,000 new vehicles. The LLV is also too small for the modern mail system in which package delivery is growing and letter delivery is declining. The service says it doesn't have a fixed idea of the ideal "next-generation delivery vehicles," but it listed a number of requirements in its initial request and is open to any proposal. Carriers have some suggestions, though, saying they want better cupholders, sun visors that they can stuff letters behind, a driver's compartment free of slits that can swallow mail, and a backup camera. The request for information sent to automakers pegs the tender at 180,000 vehicles that would cost between $25,000 and $35,000 apiece, and it will hold a conference on February 18 to answer questions about the contract. GM is the only domestic maker to avow an interest, while Ford and Fiat-Chrysler have remained cagey. Yet with a possible $6.3 billion up for grabs and some new vans for sale that would be advertised on every block in the country, we have a feeling everyone will be listening closely come February 18. We also have a feeling the LeMons series is going to be flooded with Grummans come 2017. News Source: Wall Street Journal, Automotive News - sub.
