                              1972 Corvette Pro Street - 427 Big Block - 4 Speed Manual Trans - 4 Link w/Narrowed ford 9"

Here is a quick history of this car. I built this car in 1984, showed it for two years and then sold it in 1987 when my first son was born. I always wondered what became of it over the years. In 2011 the Corvette showed up for sale on racingjunk.com. It was languishing in a pole barn in N.Carolina, broken and UN-drivable . I felt some compelling force to buy it and fix it (like it was my duty or something!).  After two years of work and much money spent, it is once again on the road. Trouble is... I have the urge for something else! I know I am going to take a beating on this one, I paid too much for it , and spent more than I should to fix it! Now that I'm pushing 60, climbing in and out of a Pro Street Corvette just isn't my thing anymore. Here is a chance to own a Magazine feature car that has been freshened from one end to the other (except for the paint). The details are listed below.

Engine - 427 (over .030) "Ross Racing" Forged Pistons, "Scat" steel rods, 049 casting oval port heads w/2.19 & 1.88 valve upgrade, Lunati Voodoo Hyd Roller cam 221/229 duration @ .050, .575/.575 lift, Lunati Hyd Roller lifters, Roller rockers, Dual Plane Air gap intake, 770 Holley Ultra Street Avenger, GM Performance "427" Zl1 valve covers (2 sets), Corvette tach drive distributor adapted to MSD trigger by Daves Small Body HEI.com. GM performance wires and brackets. This motor is not too radical and runs flawlessly.

Transmission - Muncie close ratio 4 speed, new clutch and pressure plate, Hurst Competition Plus Shifter

Rear End - Narrowed Ford 9", Traction lock, 4.33 Gears (approx 3.90 final ratio w/31" tires) 31 Spline Strange axles, Chrome 4 link suspension w/QA1 Coil overs, new Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R tires 31 x 18.5 x 15

Other Stuff - C5 Corvette leather seats, new carpet, Auto meter gauges installed in center gauge cluster, swing out roll bars, Full exhaust that still exits in the stock location (none of that hanging down under the car or dumping out the side!) All new brake system (MC, lines, calipers, etc.), New aftermarket wiring harness, Gas tank modified and in its original location w/sending unit. New control arm bushings, tie rod ends, shocks, springs up front. I'm sure I've left many things out, but you get the picture. If it needed to be replaced I did it...

This car had its chassis work done at Jegs Chassis Shop, so you know its was done right. It goes straight down the road, and rides better than you might think, although the 4 link is a little "creaky" sometimes.

The Corvette is still wearing its Candy Red paint from in the 80's. It still glows, but it is no longer perfect. There are a couple of small chips and one bigger boo boo where I dropped a coil over spring on the top of a front fender (I have a sticker of a band aid on it right now because I am at a loss as to how to fix it). I don't know if anyone could match the paint and touch it up.

I have gone to a couple of shows this summer and folks really seem to go nuts over it. I really would've liked to have been able to do a repaint as part of the rebuild process, but I spent too much already!

I am sure I left out some information. Please feel free to ask any questions or request pictures of something in particular.

This Corvette is ready for a new owner. Its hard to admit after all the work I had to do, but this just isn't the car I want. I really thought it was when I saw it for sale. I'm just not the young man I was when I sold it many years ago. Thanks for checking out my auction, and if you are interested, Good Luck bidding!

On Jun-24-13 at 03:01:17 PDT, seller added the following information:

I plan to attend the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals in Du Quoin, IL this coming weekend. I am going to drive the 500 miles in this Pro Street Corvette. Heck, I won't even be home when this auction ends! If this meets its "reserve price" I guess I will actually be driving someone elses Corvette home from the event.

Hot air balloons caught in high winds drag fullsize SUV

Mon, Jul 20 2015

A sudden storm front whipped up enough wind to send some hot air balloons flying into the air in Wisconsin over the weekend. One ballon proved so energetic that it was able to drag a fullsize SUV across a field and into a stand of tents. The freak accident occurred at Balloonfest in Waterford, Wisconsin. Spectators were horrified as balloons dragged handlers to the ground and launched with terrified pilots clinging to their baskets. Organizers had started packing up the colorful balloons due to ominous storm clouds when the wind kicked up. "Happened just like that; it was crazy," Nathan Fricke, crew member, told Fox 6. Winds were clocked at 40 to 50 miles per hour. A balloon caught in the wind dragged a large SUV (we think a Suburban or Yukon XL) hundreds of feet and into a cluster of tents on the edge of the staging area where balloons were on display for festival goers. Considering that the SUV surely weighs well over 5,000 pounds, it's lucky that no one was injured in the incident. News Source: Fox6Now Weird Car News Chevrolet GM GMC SUV

Final C6 Corvette built in Bowling Green

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

With all of the attention given to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray lately, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's already well along in production, yet tooling up for the new C7 has only just begun. In fact, production of the outgoing C6 generation in Bowling Green, Kentucky just halted on Thursday.
As the C6 has aged, production numbers have predictably ebbed along with demand, but this year, the addition of the 427 and 60th anniversary models resulted in an uptick in vehicles built - this, despite a model year shortened by around 25 percent to accomodate the new model changeover. The final C6 Corvette ever, No. 13,466 built this year, was a white 427 Convertible destined for the General Motors Heritage Center museum. The car's 7.0-liter V8 heart was assembled by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter himself.
In total, Bowling Green pushed out 215,100 C6 Corvettes over nine years. If you're still a C6 fan at heart and are hoping to get a good deal on a phase-out model, step lively - Chevrolet reportedly had about 6,100 unsold units, which Autoweek suggests is good for around five and a half months of supply at the model's current sales rates. Given that demand will likely slacken even further as the C7 draws closer, that should be a big enough stockpile to keep dealers satisfied until 2014 Stingrays begin showing up on their forecourts in December.

Question of the Day: What's the most irritating car name?

Wed, Mar 9 2016

You hear a lot about how the Chevrolet Nova was a sales flop in Mexico because "No va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish; in fact, the Nova sold pretty well south of the border, and in any case most Spanish-speakers know that "Nova" means "new" in Latin and Portuguese. However, General Motors doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for bad car names, because the Oldsmobile Achieva— no doubt inspired by the excruciating "coffee achievers" ads of the 1980s— scrapes the biggest fingernails down the screechiest chalkboard in the US-market car-name world. That is, unless you think Daihatsu's incomprehensible choice of Charade was worse. Meanwhile, Japanese car buyers could get machines with cool names like Mazda Bongo Friendee or Honda Life Dunk. It's just not fair! So, what car name drives you the craziest? Related Video: Auto News Design/Style Chevrolet Honda Mazda Daihatsu Automotive History questions car names
