I've had this car about 6 years and I'd like to move on to another project. The color combination is code correct Lemans Blue (976) with Bright Blue (411) interior. The car was optioned with both tops and includes the hard top, which has been recovered with new vinyl 3 or 4 years ago (looks new still because I hardly ever use the hard top and the car never sits outside very long).  The car was built 14July69.

The paint was done about a year ago using the correct mix for the color. I freshened up the interior over the time I've owned the car and did a big overhaul on it recently including new carpet, seat vinyl, seat foam, door sill covers, etc. The top was done at the same time as the paint, along with many new badges, chrome, etc where needed.  There is new weatherstripping throughout the entire car except the hardtop.  The glass is original as far as I know and in good shape with some minor scratching on the door glass.

The car is originally a 427cui 390hp big block, but a 350 small block was installed in the mid-70s. Most of the original big block parts (distributor, radiator overflow, fan shroud, rear sway bar, heavy duty rear end, etc) are still present. It also originally had the highly desirable side pipe exhaust.  The suspension has been rebuilt using Vette Brakes components.  Most of the brake system is new or nearly new including the master cylinder, soft lines, pads, rotors and stainless sleeved calipers.  The tires have a lot of tread life left and were installed on the car just after I bought it.  They have approximately 3500 miles on them.  All gauges, including the clock work as do the headlights, wiper door and wipers.  There are so many new parts on this car that there's no way I could list everything.

The car has a 4 speed, close ratio M21 Muncie transmission. The wheel covers are the optional P02 Deluxe Wheel Covers, but I also have an extra complete set of nice, original (metal...not plastic like many reproduction) base rally wheel trim rings and centers that can be swapped out if the buyer prefers the look of the base rally wheels.

This car runs and drives great. The engine runs very strong and has been very reliable.

The only big project left to do on this car is swap in a big block.  Aside from that, the mufflers could use replacing (I never did because I intended to put in a big block and the exhaust system is different).  The heater works well from the defrost vents but the vacuum line to the heater controls is not hooked up.  I have never run the car in cold enough weather to use the heater.  The parking brake, door locks, and door glass could be adjusted a bit better.  Other than that, I do not believe there is anything not working properly on the car.

Now for the fine print.  A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of the winning.  The balance of the winning bid is due within 7 days and will only be accepted in the form of a certified check (or bank check if financing).  Payment must be in United States dollars.  Once payment has cleared, it will take approximately 1 to 2 weeks to receive the title (according to the bank).  Once payment has cleared, the car can be picked up or shipped with a bill of sale and the title can follow when received, or the buyer may choose to wait until the title comes back from the bank.  Buyer handles pickup or shipping.  I can recommend a very good enclosed car transport company that I've personally used several times.

Experimental mid-engine XP-819 Corvette going up for auction

Sun, 17 Feb 2013

It seems to be commonplace that when a new Corvette is in development, rumors swirl about a possible mid-engine layout. As is the case of Chevy's most recent C7 Corvette, these rumors never pan out.
In any case, the idea for a 'Vette with an engine mounted behind the driver can probably all be traced back to a single car, the 1964 XP-819 prototype. Built as an "engineering exercise" back in 1964, the prototype was designed with a rear-mounted engine. History tells us that the idea of a rear-engine Corvette fizzled, and the XP-819 was eventually cut up into pieces and stored at a shop in Daytona Beach, FL.
After sitting for untold years, a restoration project started on the car, and while it isn't yet fully completed, the current owner of the car, Mid America Motorworks, will have the car on display at the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance as a "driveable chassis" with hopes of having a fully completed car ready to bring to next year's show.

24 Hours of Le Mans live update part one

Sat, Jun 18 2016

We tasked surfing journalist Rory Parker to watch this year's live stream of the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. What follows is an experiment to experience the world's greatest endurance race from the perspective of a motorsports novice with a profanity-laden stream-of-consciousness writing style. Parker lives in Hawaii and spends far more time spearfishing than behind the wheel of a car. Jump ahead to Part Two here, and Part Three here. Big Money and billionaire hobbyists and rockets on wheels. Jets belching French color smoke overhead. Balance of power fuckery. Plenty of water on the ground this morning. Absurdly expensive motorcars lined up in the pissing rain. Fast twitch lunatics behind the wheel. Chomping at the bit. Let's go let's go let's go! Race hasn't even started, Ford #67 maybe dealing with clutch issues. Karma? That beautiful bastard Brad Pitt's out on the track, waving the tricolor flag. It's a standing start in "Noah's Ark" weather and the 2016 24 hours of Le Mans is go! First lap takes place behind the safety car, finished in a record setting 8 minutes 27 seconds. Wrong kind of record maybe, but this is the first time I've set my mind to watching the whole damn race. Feel like I'm part of history. 3:00 AM on Kauai, a little too early for life. Sucking down coffee like a maniac. Don't fall back asleep. Got my hands on four hours of rest, how much more can I need? Better be enough for the next twenty four hours. Gonna get kinda punchy toward the end. Jason Statham on the scene. Four feet of solid muscle, non-existent hairline. Lovely wife peanut gallery sitting next to me calls him the "best race car drive in the world." Not sure if she's serious. Toss up, could go either way. Statham's a funny guy. Heir to the Bruce Willis comedy action crown. Really good in the movie where the fat comedy lady plays a spy. Ford's on the road. Problems with gearbox pressure, apparently. Nearing a half hour in and the safety car is still on the track. Hellish amounts of water on the ground, in the air. Visibility is garbage. Getting better. Twitter wags, "Not with a bang but a whimper." Just building suspense. Mother Nature felt like killing some people today, race officials need to dial back the drivers until it dries a tad. Normal inclination would've seen 'em flying, guaranteed early lap wrecks. Sad news for that bloodthirsty part of my lizard brain I try and keep suppressed. Good news for humanity. #12 in the pit for a bit.
