1959 Chevrolet Corvette on 2040-cars

I have owned this car for 40 years, 1975 until now. I started with a frame off restoration in the late 70s. This
included removing the body and sending the frame, wheels, brake drums and assorted steel parts for sand blasting.
Everything was primed then painted and clear coated with Imron. Although this does not have the original engine it
has a period correct 283and a T-10 transmission. He could not resist putting in a mild
cam without telling me, so I was a little surprised when he started it up for the first time. Even with a stock
exhaust and Midas mufflers it has the sweet sound of a Chris Craft inboard boat from that era. Those mufflers from
1980 started to show their age and I just had them replaced in the spring under the warranty. Boy were they
surprised when I showed them the paperwork from 1980! All new fuel and brake lines were installed on the bare
frame, as well as a new master cylinder and new wheels cylinders and new brake shoes which were arced to go with
the newly cut drums. I had the master and all of the wheel cylinders and all of the rubber brake hoses replaced
just a few years ago. I just had new king pins installed and had a wheel alignment done in the spring of 2015. I
sent the car to the body shop without a speck of paint on it after we put it back on the frame and test drove it in
1980.
This is a car that I had planned to keep forever so I didn't exactly rush to do everything at once, aside from the
cost factor. I did replace the windshield after having a new dash pad installed. The same shop recovered the seats
and installed a new convertible top and door panels and carpets that I supplied. I have most of the receipts. I
didn't put many miles on the car over the years. The odometer reading of a little over 3,000 reflects the mileage
after the car was fully assembled and roadworthy and when I had the speedometer rebuilt. There was about 42k on it
before that. I didn't have a decent work space for many years until I bought my current house in Florida, so it
rarely saw the light of day. I have access to an indoor lift now and was able to wash the underbody and clean up
the overspray from the paint work as well as finally detail the engine compartment a bit. The photos show that
what you see is what you get. It didn't have any accident damage but there was a tear in the right front fender
that was repaired with a heavy build up on the inside that is now cracking a bit, other than that it has some of
the usual fine upper fender lines common to the C-1 Vettes. All the bumpers were rechromed by Mark's Plating, who
does much of the work for the Palm Beach residents. I have made every effort to keep the car as original as
possible. It is not a hot rod, just a nice driver with decent old school performance from a 283 with a newer
Edelbrock carb. I added those cute rolled exhaust tips after the new exhaust system went on. I have the hardtop
and new windows and package tray as well as various other parts and books that will be included.
I don't have to sell it but my body is starting to tell me otherwise. The arthritis in my clutch knee and the gout
flare ups in the left foot keep it in the garage too much! The starting price is less than a basket case goes for,
and this is not a basket case.

2014 Chevrolet Cruze TD fires up its new diesel motor
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Ever since General Motors confirmed plans to produce a diesel-powered Cruze back in 2011, we've been eagerly awaiting its arrival. And as part of the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, Chevrolet has pulled back the cover on its oil-burning compact sedan, set to go on sale in the near future with a starting price of $25,695, not including $810 for destination.
The heart and soul of the Cruze TD (that's its official name) is a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel inline four-cylinder engine rated at 148 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, mated solely to a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine also has an overboost function that will increase torque to 280 lb-ft for up to ten seconds. The full brace of official specs haven't been released, but GM tells us that highway fuel economy will come in at 42 miles per gallon. If that number sounds familiar, it's because the Volkswagen Jetta TDI has the exact same rating. Unlike the Jetta, however, the Cruze TD can run on B20 biodiesel, where as the Volkswagen can only accept B5.
Model-specific changes to this 2014 Cruze TD include an aero kit and unique 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, there's a full leather interior, and Chevrolet will provide two years of complimentary scheduled maintenance, not to mention a 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]
Tue, 05 Feb 2013Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.
Here's how Detroit is selling more luxury vehicles than Germany and Japan
Sun, Dec 14 2014Now there's an attention-grabbing headline, eh? Although the answer to the riddle - pickup trucks and SUVs - might be somehow deflating, the numbers involved deserve a going over. According to TrueCar's figures (click on the table to enlarge), six of the year's ten best-selling vehicles in the US that sell for a transaction price above $50,000 are body-on-frame, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the only foreigner to crack the top five. Every enthusiast knows that pickup trucks are 'Murica's most popular vehicle by a colossal margin, and there have been plenty of reports about the popularity of luxuriously appointed trucks and SUVs, but compare these figures from TrueCar: 70 percent of Chevrolet Tahoe sales have a transaction price above $50K, and The Bowtie is expected to make $3.9 billion in revenue on 66,945 predicted high-dollar sales; 95.1 percent of E-Class sales break $50K, so the German company will make $4.0 billion on 67,006 predicted sales in that pricing sphere. It's about the only time you'll see the Tahoe ranked right next to Mercedes' bread-and-butter sedan. Ram is ahead of those two with $4.2B coming from $50K-plus sales. The Ford F-Series does almost as much revenue as the next three combined, with an expected $10.8 billion coming from sales of trucks over $50K - more than a quarter of the model's total sales, when a base F-150 can be had for about $26,000. Yes, the Germans make a lot more money on fewer sales, but considering the comparison, the bottom line isn't too troubled by such facts. Weighing like-for-like, the full-size Ford walks it in every category; elsewhere, the Chevrolet Silverado outsells the Ram, but the Ram outsells the Chevy by 6.7 percent above $50K. And for all the flak GMC takes over swapping out grilles, the Sierra also outsells the Chevy in the well-appointed segment, 16.1 percent of sales versus 11 percent – the Professional Grade brand is a huge profit center for The General. You'll find more info in the TrueCar press release below.
