1966 Chevrolet Corvair Monza on 2040-cars
Whitestone, New York, United States
This is my beauty. I have had it for about 5 years and I have done everything I possibly could to it, except for some minor stuff. It runs great. It turns heads. Every time I take it out or to car shows, I get a huge crowd. It even beat out a 1960's Ferrari in a vintage stock class, judged by spectators. I can't begin to list everything I have changed in this car over the last 3 years or so, but I'll try. First of all, a professionally done brand new paint job just about a month old. As close to stock as I could, though it is called Ferrari Red. All new suspension with nothing but the best parts. New carpet, new seat covers and padding, all new gaskets and oil cooler to make the driveway floor bone dry. An electronic ignition kit to avoid wet point stalls. New radial tires, new interior pieces, etc, etc, etc. Meticulously maintained by a service place familiar with classic cars. Winter stored and summer covered. New duel exhaust system. The only thing I haven't changed yet is the convertible top. It has some imperfections and small tears. I was about to do that, but.. Other nuances are the working stock AM/FM radio with sliding tune bar ( not easy to find and expensive when you do). Rear speakers and a hidden CD player in the "trunk" . The interior metal parts of the door may have a few small scratches here and there, but not a big deal. Bottom line is you would be getting a beautiful classic car that has very little left to do to. It will turn heads by its beauty and unusual details. Why am I selling it? Well, I saw a car that I have always wanted and I want to give it a shot at getting it. If I sell this car, I will get that one. That why it will be a short time line to buy. If I sell it, fine. If not, at least I tried. I have been struggling with this decision for a while. If you know Corvairs, you know what a nice version this is.Anyway, good luck. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer. The speedometer show 64031. Frankly , I don't know if that is the mileage or it is 164031, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. It doesn't matter. The engine is pristine, New top of the line fan belt, as well. I will throw in a couple of boxes of parts that I got when I first bought it. Good stuff, including a carbo in its original box. And finally I'll throw in some memorabilia like old advertisementss, catalogs and users manual that I acquired. The trophies stay with me , though. The RESERVE is very close to the selling price. As I said, I need a quick turnaround or nothing at all. I am relisting this because I did purchase another car that I have been looking for. I have relisted at a reduced price. Good luck to all. |

Junkyard Gem: 1985 Chevrolet Sprint
Thu, May 21 2020For in the 1985 model year, General Motors began selling Chevrolet-badged Suzuki Cultus hatchbacks in California. Sales of the cheap three-cylinder econobox in the rest of North America followed soon after (with the Canadian version known as the Pontiac Firefly), and did pretty well considering the crash in gasoline prices during the middle 1980s. Starting in 1988, the facelifted Sprint became the Geo (and, later on, Chevrolet) Metro. Here's one of the very first Cultuses sold on our shores, found in a San Francisco Bay Area car graveyard. Amazingly, the primitive rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet Chevette remained available all the way through 1987, competing with the thriftier front-wheel-drive Sprint in the same showrooms. For 1988, Pontiac started selling a rebadged Daewoo LeMans, so the Sprint/Metro never lacked for intra-corporate competition. Inside, you'll find the same stuff most mid-1980s Japanese econoboxes got: tough cloth upholstery and long-wearing hard plastics. Suzuki quality in 1985 wasn't quite up to Honda or Toyota levels, but you weren't paying Honda or Toyota prices for the Sprint. MSRP on this car started at $4,949, or about $12,000 in 2020 dollars. The cheapest possible 1985 Chevette cost $5,340, while a new no-frills Ford Escort would set you back $5,620. Subaru, however, could have put you in a punitively unappointed base-model Leone hatchback for just 40 bucks more than the Sprint that year. I think I'd have sprung the extra for a $5,348 Toyota Tercel, a $5,195 Mazda GLC, or— best cheap-commuter deal of all that year— the $5,399 Honda Civic 1300 hatchback. I was 19 years old and driving a Competition Orange 1968 Mercury Cyclone that year, and I recall feeling pity for Chevy Sprint drivers, new-car smell or not. Still, these weren't bad cars for the price, though a Sprint with an automatic transmission was a real character-builder. Got three cylinders and uses 'em all! 48 horsepower from this hemi-headed SOHC 1-liter. The Turbo Sprint — yes, such a car existed — had a howling 70 horsepower. The hood-latch release is a rectangular button that resembles a badge. 1985 Chevy Sprint Commercial The highest-mileage, lowest-priced car you can buy. 1985 holden barina commercial The Australian-market version was the Holden Barina, and the TV ads featured the Road Runner. 1983 SUZUKI CULTUS Ad In its homeland, this car got screaming guitars and a drive through New York City for its TV commercials.
Netflix to feature electric cars from GM and others in programming
Sun, Feb 5 2023LOS ANGELES — Netflix has unveiled a new star for some of its upcoming programming: electric vehicles from General Motors and other automakers. The streaming service announced an agreement on Thursday to feature vehicles including the Chevrolet Bolt, the electric GMC Hummer pickup and the Cadillac Lyriq in TV series and films "where relevant." The companies will highlight the partnership in a commercial featuring Will Ferrell that will air during the Feb. 12 Super Bowl. Netflix and GM called the agreement "part of a commitment to a more sustainable future." Financial terms were not disclosed. Netflix said it will help creators "better understand how EVs can complement and enhance their stories." Shows that will feature GM's electric vehicles include "Love is Blind," "Queer Eye" and "Unstable." Netflix productions also will include electric vehicles made by other automakers, the company said. Two More Recalls Push GM Total To 4.8 Million In A Month
Mon, Mar 31 2014General Motors announced two more recalls late Friday, bringing to 4.8 million the number of cars, trucks and SUVs the automaker has called back for repairs in the past month. The string of recalls, topped by an ignition switch problem in compact cars now linked to 13 crash deaths, has embarrassed the company and sidetracked its new CEO, who started work just over two months ago. GM has admitted knowing about the switch problem a decade ago, yet it didn't recall any cars until February. The recall delay has brought two congressional investigations and probes by the Justice Department and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Late Friday night, GM announced it would recall 490,000 late-model pickup trucks and SUVs because transmission oil cooling lines weren't secured properly in their fittings. Transmission oil can leak from a fitting and hit hot surfaces, causing fires, the company said in a statement. GM said it knows of three fires and no injuries. The recall affects Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks from the 2014 model year, as well as 2015 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe SUVs and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs. All have six-speed automatic transmissions. The Silverado is GM's top-selling vehicle and an important profit center for the company. The GMC Sierra also is among GM's top sellers. Dealers will inspect the transmission oil cooling line fittings and make sure they're securely seated, at no cost to owners. Also Friday night, GM announced the recall of 172,000 Chevrolet Cruze compact cars because the right front axle shaft can fracture and separate while being driven. The recall affects cars from the 2013 and 2014 model years equipped with 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engines. If a shaft fractures, the wheels would lose power without warning and the cars would coast to a stop. GM says it has warranty reports of several dozen shaft fractures. It is not aware of any crashes or injuries. Dealers will replace the shafts free of charge. The recall allows dealers to resume selling affected Cruzes. GM issued a stop sale order on the cars Thursday night. The recall also covers about 2,500 replacement shafts used to fix manual transmission Cruzes that were recalled last September. In all, GM has recalled 4.8 million vehicles since last month, two million more than the company sold last year in the U.S.
