The engine runs great, and the transmission is solid with no apparent issues. The push-rod tube O-rings have recently been replaced, and that stopped the major infamous Corvair oil leaking. I have since detected one small oil leak, but I have not investigated it. It is probably a seal. The body is in very good condition. The rusted floor pans and bottom of the front luggage compartment were replaced with new sheet metal. The interior is in fair condition with all original components except seat upholstery. The seats have been covered with new vinyl slip covers."

1966 Chevrolet Corvair 500 coupe with 110 hp engine. 72,495 miles. Automatic transmission. Runs great. I recently replaced the push rod tube O-rings, which stopped them from leaking oil. I have also installed new carburetors. a rebuilt starter, and rebuilt alternator. I have modified the exhaust for a better sound. I have installed a new fuel pump as well as new oil pan and valve cover gaskets. I also installed new spark plugs and wires. The body is in very good condition. All the original exterior trim and chrome are present and in very good condition. All lights work, including back-up lights; and all light lenses are present and in very good condition. I replaced the dented hood with an undamaged one and painted it with white primer. It looks fine as it is, but I did intend to repaint the entire car at some point. The car has its original hub caps, and I put new radial tires on it. All the glass is good. I recently replaced a cracked windshield with a new windshield and had the rear window resealed. When I bought the car, the front and back floor pans and metal bottom of the front luggage compartment were rusted, so I had new metal installed in each of those areas. The rear seat springs are rusted and will need to be replaced at some point. Otherwise the interior is in overall fair condition with attention needed to various things. The dash is in good shape. The clock and instruments all work. The original door panels are present and in fairly good condition but do need to be repaired. The seats need to be reupholstered but are presently covered with new vinyl covers. All the windows work. All original window handles, door handles, etc. are present and in good shape. The horn needs to be repaired. The heat duct was removed when the exhaust was modified, but I have not taken the time to reinstall it. This car can be driven just as it is with attention paid to fixing details at your leisure. It looks good and sounds good driving down the highway. People notice it, wave, and give thumbs-up every time I drive it.

Junkyard Gem: 1985 Chevrolet Sprint

For in the 1985 model year, General Motors began selling Chevrolet-badged Suzuki Cultus hatchbacks in California. Sales of the cheap three-cylinder econobox in the rest of North America followed soon after (with the Canadian version known as the Pontiac Firefly), and did pretty well considering the crash in gasoline prices during the middle 1980s. Starting in 1988, the facelifted Sprint became the Geo (and, later on, Chevrolet) Metro. Here's one of the very first Cultuses sold on our shores, found in a San Francisco Bay Area car graveyard. Amazingly, the primitive rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet Chevette remained available all the way through 1987, competing with the thriftier front-wheel-drive Sprint in the same showrooms. For 1988, Pontiac started selling a rebadged Daewoo LeMans, so the Sprint/Metro never lacked for intra-corporate competition. Inside, you'll find the same stuff most mid-1980s Japanese econoboxes got: tough cloth upholstery and long-wearing hard plastics. Suzuki quality in 1985 wasn't quite up to Honda or Toyota levels, but you weren't paying Honda or Toyota prices for the Sprint. MSRP on this car started at $4,949, or about $12,000 in 2020 dollars. The cheapest possible 1985 Chevette cost $5,340, while a new no-frills Ford Escort would set you back $5,620. Subaru, however, could have put you in a punitively unappointed base-model Leone hatchback for just 40 bucks more than the Sprint that year. I think I'd have sprung the extra for a $5,348 Toyota Tercel, a $5,195 Mazda GLC, or— best cheap-commuter deal of all that yearÂ— the $5,399 Honda Civic 1300 hatchback. I was 19 years old and driving a Competition Orange 1968 Mercury Cyclone that year, and I recall feeling pity for Chevy Sprint drivers, new-car smell or not. Still, these weren't bad cars for the price, though a Sprint with an automatic transmission was a real character-builder. Got three cylinders and uses 'em all! 48 horsepower from this hemi-headed SOHC 1-liter. The Turbo Sprint Â— yes, such a car existed Â— had a howling 70 horsepower. Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee teases return with a Countach

Unless you have an intense aversion to Jerry Seinfeld, it's hard not to find something to like about his show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. After all, the series combines funny people telling often hilarious stories while riding in ridiculously cool vehicles. The trailer for the sixth season is now online, and based on this tease, this definitely looks worth watching no matter what part of the videos interest you. Of course, it's the automotive portion that really grabs us, and Seinfeld has quite a fleet to showcase for season six. The trailer shows off a Lamborghini Countach, a '57 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible, a classic Volkswagen Beetle in the green and white German Polizei livery, a Morgan, an Aston Martin DB5, and a Ferrari 308. On the more humorous side of things, the guest list at least includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jim Carrey, Steve Harvey, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher and upcoming host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah. Season six of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee premieres on Crackle on Wednesday, June 3, at 11:30 PM ET.

NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick loves buying first-built Chevrolet models for charity. He paid $1 million to buy the first production 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible and $650,000 to get the first 2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28. Hendrick's latest purchase happened at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach where he got into a bidding war to pay $1 million to get the first 2015 Corvette Z06. The bidding came quick with the car reaching $100,000 within 3 seconds and hitting $500,000 in about 35 seconds. The money from the sale was donated to the Karmanos Cancer Institute.
