1964 Corvair Convertible Turbo on 2040-cars
Ventura, California, United States
1964 Corvair Spyder The most desirable of the Chevrolet Corvais as it was the
last year of the original body style with Improved rear independent suspension
and first year of the larger displacement engine. The engine with the car is a
1966 180 For a size comparison the early model Corvair is very similar in size to a modern sedan like a new BMW 328.
The car is at the half way point of full restoration – Body work is done externally the car was stripped to bare metal and all patches were made with metal. Then the body was repainted in DuPont black, color sanding, cut and buffing has not been done yet.
The custom wheels on the car are Western 30 spoke turbine wheels custom machined to fit with builit knock off cones and 62 Chevrolet spinners similar to what was used on the 1965-66 Corvette.
The 1964 Corvair had full body trim rock panel and wheel
well. The trim comes with the car though needs to be straightened. Many new
parts come with the car mirrors, door handles. The grill bar presently shown is
from a 62 car and the 64 grill bar I have and will install The Monza spyder
interment panel will come spare set of gages as well and Hurst shifter with
quick shirt for the 4 speed transmission. Radio I have a restored AM/FM GM
radio to replace the AM radio. Steering column is in the process of being
converted to a 1969 collapsible safety column. Seats are heated seats from a
Saab 900 turbo some interior work and painting of the interior panels of
the car is required. The car has been converted to front disk brakes. All new
brake lines installed with steel braded flexible lines. Aluminum chrome plated
dual master cylinder and residual valves. The rear suspension is completely
restored with all new bushings, everything was blasted and powder coated and
new grade 8 bolts installed. Clean new rear suspension with KYB high pressure
Gas shocks Cleaned and panted underside of the car tunnel cover is powder coated
fuel tank cleaned and painted and coated internally. The front suspension is
completely restored with all new bushings and ball joints everything was
blasted and powder coated and new grade 8 bolts installed with exception to the
steering tie rods. Steering box was completely rebuilt. . The engine is a 180 turbo 1966 – highest power
factory corvair engine with Offfenhauser deep sump and valve cover and a high
flow oil pump. The engine looks to
have very low miles on it hash marks from honing are still visible , as I was
told by previous owner that it had less than 10K. The engine still needs to be
toughly cleaned and reassembled with new gaskets and seals. The plan was to
convert the turbo system to blow through using a Weber side draft or EFI and
water to air intercooler, Many of components for turbo system upgrade have been
purchased and come with the car. I have spent 20 K on the car and would like 7K
for it this is a forced sale as I am moving overseas and the country I am
moving to
Complete set of mandrel exhaust bends and Borla stainless steel muffler is included as well.
Two Corvair specialist in restoration have seen the car and both told me the car if I keep going the way I am will have the best restored early model Corvair they have seen in a long time.

Chevy admits there's confusion over Bolt and Volt names
Fri, Feb 20 2015Offering the possibility of 200 miles of driving range and the potential for a price of about $30,000, the Chevrolet Bolt is an incredibly enticing vehicle, and it has an opportunity to be a big player in the EV world. However, the hatchback has been plagued by one problem since the moment it debuted – the name. Bolt sounds very similar to Volt, Chevy's extended-range plug-in, and they can be easy to confuse in a conversation. That's not the best quality to have when trying to get a new vehicle's name out there among customers, and General Motors North America president Alan Batey told the Detroit Free Press that the company is aware of the problem. While the EV is definitely going into production, the model might be wearing a different moniker when it hits showrooms. "We're still in the decision phase. It could go either way," Batey said to the Free Press. He indicated the automaker still has about a year before a final decision is necessary. The Bolt will be built at GM's Orion Assembly plant in Michigan and will likely go on sale around 2017. That will put the Chevy on the market at roughly the same time as the 200-mile Tesla Model 3. Batey didn't seem too concerned, though. "Unlike Tesla, we can spread the cost over a whole lineup," he said to the Free Press. The future doesn't look quite so bright for the Spark EV, though. Batey suggested that it might not last once the longer-range Bolt fills that niche in the lineup. Related Video:

Evatran, Bosch will sell wireless home charger for as low as $1,998*
Mon, Jan 6 2014At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today, the big news for plug in vehicles is that they can now start to ditch the plug. As expected, the system costs around $3,000 and is available for both the Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Volt. For the first 250 customers, though, Evatran is offering $1,000 off the standard price, a 30 percent discount. Deliveries start next month and Evatran says it expects the discounted units to all be snatched up in the first half of the year. The wireless charger charges as quickly as conventional corded systems. Called the Plugless Wireless EV charger, the 240-volt station will be installed by Bosch and needs a specific adapter to be used with the Volt or the Leaf (the Leaf version costs $100 more). So, any two-EV families out there will need to pony up double if there's a Chevy and a Nissan in the garage. Of course, since the Plugless system only works with older Leafs (2010-2012 model years - but with any Volt), any late adopters will not be able to take advantage of the new technology, for now. Evatran says the wireless charger "charges the Volt and Leaf as quickly as conventional corded systems and all vehicle features, such as charge-timers and phone applications, can be used seamlessly with the Plugless system." After the first 250 units, standard prices for the wireless chargers take effect again: $2,998 (Volt) and $3,098 (Leaf). Evatran says it will announce wireless chargers for additional vehicles and model years later this year. Evatran and Bosch offer Promotional Pricing as low as $1,998 to first 250 PLUGLESS™ Wireless EV Charging Customers LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Evatran Group, Inc. ("Evatran"), in partnership with Bosch Automotive Service Solutions, announced today at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show that it is offering reduced promotional pricing to the first 250 customers who opt to Go PLUGLESS with their electric vehicle ("EV") experience. The PLUGLESS system offers a convenient, wireless charging alternative to the repetitive process of unplugging and plugging-in electric vehicles. The reduced pricing includes all charging hardware and is as much as a 30% discount off the system's standard MSRP. The discount is available only to the first 250 customers. Initial shipments of the PLUGLESS system, the first wireless EV charging product in the world available to individual EV drivers, will begin in February 2014.
