The front floorboards are rusted bad due to the original rubber floor mat in place. They will need to be replaced. The rest of the van is very solid. There is some surface rust, small rivets, and dents throughout the body. No major body damage that i know of. The windshield is cracked. The front lower body panel under the headlight is missing. There is an extra one included. One rim is bad and the tire will not hold air. The rear fiberglass engine access door has a chunk missing out of it. The engine wiring has been damaged by rodents."

This is a rare 1964 Chevrolet Corvan with the 8 door option. This still has the hard to find original 164 cubic inch 110 hp engine (VB code) and has had a 4 speed car transmission and telescopic column installed at some point. I don't know if all of the steering column pieces are there. I couldn't get it to extend out. I was told that it dropped a valve seat and was parked. It has been sitting for a long time. The front floorboards are rusted bad due to the original rubber floor mat in place.  The picture under the van with the heater duct showing is under the front floorboards. They will probably need to be replaced. The rest of the van is very solid. There is some surface rust, small rivets, and dents throughout the body. No major body damage. The windshield is cracked. The front lower body panel under the headlight is missing. There is an extra used one included. One rim is bad and the tire will not hold air. The rear fiberglass engine access door has a chunk missing out of it. I'm trying to list all of the noticeable damage so the buyer is aware of what they're buying.  I will also include the extra used parts shown in the pictures. There is an extra windshield, simulated wood steering wheel, aftermarket roof rack, front and middle floor mats, and small random parts. I have the CA title for the van although it hasn't been registered since 1989. Good project van or use for parts. Get this rare van at a cheap price. The buyer is responsible for trailering it home or arranging shipping. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. A deposit of $100 is due within 48 hours of the auction ending. Payment is due within 7 days. The vehicle must be picked up within 7 days. Sold AS IS with no reserve. Thanks for looking.

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be

Thu, May 27 2021

We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be. Jay Leno gets pulled over while roaring in a Corvette Z06 convertible

Tue, Jan 6 2015

No one is above the law, even if that person is a certain silver-haired auto enthusiast with a popular weekly video series about the cars in his garage. This week, Jay Leno experiences the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06, but he also gets to have a meeting with some of California's Finest immediately after a high-speed blast. As opposed to the full-bore Z06 coupe with the seven-speed manual, Leno gets behind the wheel of the slightly heavier convertible version with the eight-speed auto. Being a droptop doesn't bother him too much, but Leno makes it obvious he wishes that he could be shifting for himself. Even if the auto is technically quicker, Leno says that swapping gears gives him something to do while driving. Of course, one of the major advantages of the convertible is the ability to listen to the Z06's thumping V8 unimpeded. With 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque from 6.2-liters of supercharged muscle, it already puts down impressive numbers, but the sound might just be the best part of all. Around town, the 'Vette is quiet enough to easily blend in with the rest of traffic. However, tip the throttle down and the valves in the exhaust open up to turn the engine into roaring monster. Be careful where you make this thing howl, though, because it's pretty easy for the police to take notice. The host finds that out the hard way in this week's episode of Jay Leno's Garage. Next-gen Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra may use carbon fiber

Thu, Dec 7 2017

It's been generally accepted that the next generation of full-size GM trucks will use some sort of strong, lightweight material for the beds while retaining steel for the cab. While aluminum seems like the most obvious choice, according to Automotive News, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will incorporate both aluminum and carbon fiber in their beds. The publication cites sources from within GM, though it seems the introduction of this comparatively exotic material mix is still a few years off. While carbon fiber is both stronger and lighter than steel and aluminum, it takes significantly more time and money to produce, essentially relegating the material to small-volume cars. The main benefit for trucks is the resulting reduction in weight to improve fuel economy without sacrificing the tough, rugged capabilities truck buyers expect. The Ford F-150 made the switch to aluminum for the 2015 model year and it's proved highly successful. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before the competition followed suit. Automotive News says that the next-gen trucks will launch with aluminum beds and that it will take a couple of years before we'll see any carbon fiber incorporated into the design. Even then, only look for the composite material on higher-trim models, with a trickle down to lower-spec trucks possible further in the future. In 2011, GM announced it was working with Japan-based Teijin Limited on a carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic. There's a good chance that material's introduction will be on trucks.
