1963 Corvair Monza Spyder Convertible
This car was originally a California car. The owners moved to Minnesota in the mid 90's and after one year there traded the car in to a small dealership. A girl from CT, going to college in MN, purchased the car and drove it there for her tenure in college and then drove it back to CT. It is believed that the dealership changed the color from a cream color to the current "burgundy". It is also believed that they changed out the entire drivetrain/running gear to that of a 1964 Monza Spyder including the wiring harness too. It is unclear how many miles may be on the car, although the odometer reads 29,374.
The car was then purchased in the late 90's by the current owner, driven a short bit and put away with the idea of doing a restoration. That was over 20 years ago. 2 years ago the car came out of storage and was recommissioned to be driven again.
The car starts right up and runs strong, pulls hard through the gears and the compression is up around 120 for all six cylinders. However there is a clicking noise that has been diagnosed by several Corvair experts as a ridge in one of the cylinders as all of the valves are moving and free and the bearings were found to be good.
The flat six puts out 150 HP in a 2400 lb car, so she moves surprisingly quick. Mated to a four speed, you can pick your gear for the best RPM to use for optimum enjoyment.
When the car was recently recommissioned, the oil and filter was changed out and Hemmings ZDDP oil used. New gas tank, filters, pump and sending unit were installed. New Cap, rotor, plugs and wires installed and the brake system was done over including some line replacement, e-brake cable and master cylinder. LED taillights and electronic blinker set up.
The body is fairly solid, the floors were replaced when the car was purchased by this owner. There is some rust through in the typical rear wheel well openings and surface rust throughout a good deal of the undercarriage. Four vintage ET mags were sourced when first purchased.
Many new or better parts are included with the sale:
Bumpers, headlight surrounds, emblems,
license plate surround and correct '63 grill bar and script emblem. Set
of NOS wiper blade refills for red dot Trico blades, new in box walnut
shift knob (Clark's), real leather lace on steering wheel cover (black
w/ red stitching). Set of blue LED bulbs for dash lights, good used visors, extra stock wheel, new exhaust crossover pipe w/gaskets, extra gaskets, new fan belt, two sets of factory shop manuals (one very nice, one in 3 ring binders for shop use), MN title and several other Corvair books.
Great little driver, mechanically sorted needs some body work and paint.
She can be enjoyed for only $5000
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, offers or to schedule a time to see her.

Question of the Day: What's the most irritating car name?
Wed, Mar 9 2016You hear a lot about how the Chevrolet Nova was a sales flop in Mexico because "No va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish; in fact, the Nova sold pretty well south of the border, and in any case most Spanish-speakers know that "Nova" means "new" in Latin and Portuguese. However, General Motors doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for bad car names, because the Oldsmobile Achieva— no doubt inspired by the excruciating "coffee achievers" ads of the 1980s— scrapes the biggest fingernails down the screechiest chalkboard in the US-market car-name world. That is, unless you think Daihatsu's incomprehensible choice of Charade was worse. Meanwhile, Japanese car buyers could get machines with cool names like Mazda Bongo Friendee or Honda Life Dunk. It's just not fair! So, what car name drives you the craziest? Related Video: Auto News Design/Style Chevrolet Honda Mazda Daihatsu Automotive History questions car names
CNG-powered Chevy Sonic, Cruze headed your way
Fri, Nov 7 2014The value proposition for a Crazy Diamond Performance CNG ride was a little bit better before gas prices took a dive in the past month. Still, the Michigan-based company, which converts some of Chevrolet's compact vehicles to run on compressed natural gas, received approval late last month from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for two of its conversion models. And CNG is still pretty cheap. Crazy Diamond will start selling CNG versions of both the Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Sonic. The startup will target fleet operators looking to cut both refueling costs and their carbon footprint. CNG can be found in much of the country in the low $2 range, while the average CO2 emissions are about 25 percent less than those of similar gas-powered vehicles. Average gas prices have tumbled by more than 30 cents a gallon in the last month, according to AAA, but they're still at close to $3. The two models will be able to go almost 300 miles on a full tank of CNG. Crazy Diamond said this summer that it would start selling converted a CNG-powered Cruze that delivers 130 horsepower for as low as $26,000. The turbocharged version goes for about $28,000. Take a look at Crazy Diamond Performance's celebratory press release below. Crazy Diamond Performance recieves EPA approval on its CNG Cruze and Sonic CDP receives EPA approval for its Mono-Fuel CNG Cruze and Sonic. Shelby Township, Michigan, October 30, 2014– Crazy Diamond Performance (CDP) receives EPA approval on its Mono-Fuel Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Sonic. Crazy Diamond Performance has received EPA approval on two new mono-fuel small passenger vehicles, the CNG Chevrolet Cruze and CNG Chevrolet Sonic. These new mono-fuel CNG platforms are the first of a series of small and fuel efficient vehicles coming from CDP, where cost, low emissions and reduced fuel consumption is important for not only fleet owners, but to the general public as well. "Soon to be available, are the 1.8L and 1.4L Cruze and Sonic CNG retrofit systems. These two vehicles represent a change in the status quo, with an OEM level integration of the fuel system and its components" states Michelle Fern, Executive Vice President CDP Inc. These vehicles provide flexibility for fleets looking to purchase a domestic small mono-fuel passenger sedan, but have not had an option until now. There are significant emissions benefits over its gasoline counterpart, with an average reduction in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) of 25%.
2016 Chevy Colorado grabs Motor Trend Truck of the Year award
Tue, Nov 17 2015It's not an easy feat to win Motor Trend Truck of the Year twice in a row, but the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado managed to do just that. Thanks to the introduction of the 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder diesel, the magazine decided to bring the pickup back to defend the title. In more good news for the Bowtie brand, the 2016 Camaro earned the magazine's Car of the Year award. The Colorado beat a tough group of finalists to earn the nod this year, including its GMC Canyon sibling. The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra also made this year's list. The Nissan Titan XD and latest Toyota Tacoma rounded out the challengers. A model had to shine in six criteria to earn the title: advancement in design, engineering excellence, safety, efficiency, value, and performance of intended function. Like it did with the Camaro, Motor Trend posted a story online that explained the rationale for picking the Colorado again. They praised the diesel profusely and lauded the whole platform as quite a capable hauler. This year's Motor Trend SUV of the Year honor went to the Volvo XC90. The Swedish 'ute had to win against an initial group of 16 candidates that the magazine eventually whittled down to finalists that consisted of the Honda Pilot, Lincoln MKX, the combined Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class and GLE Coupe, and Nissan Murano. "Seven-passenger people movers aren't supposed to drive like this," senior features editor Jonny Lieberman said about the Volvo in the announcement of the champions. The Honda CR-V won last year. In the explanation online, the judges applauded the XC90's new modular platform, and they loved both the T6 twin-charged engine and T8 hybrid version. The SUV's key enamored the writers, too.
