Up for auction is a 1963 Corvair Monza 900 Convertible.
This car is in amazing condition for a 50 year old Michigan car! It has the 100hp 6cylinder with Automatic Transmission. I bought it recently because it was built the same year I was born and I thought I deserved a birthday present. My wife does not agree.
About the car.
Some of the positives:
As the car sits it looks very cool with a well aged patina.
As far as I can tell it is 100% original red paint, has red vinyl interior and carpet which is also 90% perfect. The black convertible top goes up and down manually and would be in great condition except for two huge cuts through it.( the rear window is in great condition)
It runs and drives very well. The previous owner replaced the fuel tank, lines, pump and filters, and also replaced the brake lines so it runs great and stops well too. I don't know how new the tires are but they are excellent. It is missing one of the original hub caps (a good used one is $20.00) but I will include a full set of new plastic ones if you want them. The radio works, the lights and wipers work. The engine starts immediatly and runs very good. There is a bit of spark-knock on heavy acceleration which I am told is a timing adjustment ( I have not tampered with it). The transmission shifts normally and the parking brake works too. It does not appear to leak anything. There is of course an old build up of gunk on the bottom of the 50 year old engine and trans but no drips under the car. The thermostatic cooling flaps and the chokes are all functioning.
Now for some of the negatives:
Although not major, it does have some rust , I tried to capture the rust areas with the camera and have not done anything to cover or repair it. The floor has a six inch 'slice' in the metal under the drivers seat as if it had run over something in the road but it is slender and solid metal which should be easy to weld. It is located in a spot where there is a factory brace under the seat so it has not weakened the floor. The rest of the floor has a basic scaling of metal but no holes and is amazingly solid. The trunk is original spackle paint, and has very minimal surface rust in the front corners and no holes. There is some miscellaneous rust on the car that should be dealt with but not structural. (If you are serious, I have pictures I can provide immediatly) The right front fender is rusted through(see photo)
Conclussion: This is a great car to do a full restore on, or just drive it in the summers and fix as you go.
There are many sources to but new and used parts to restore this car, and a great resource of online clubs and forums.
I can say a lot more and have a huge pile of photos, so let me know what you want and I will help.
Also has original papers, build sheet, owners books etc..

Recharge Wrap-Up: LAPD gets Zero MMX, Chevy's new inverter, Hyundai Tucson's new powertrains
Wed, Jul 16 2014Some police in Los Angeles will be riding Zero MMX electric motorcycles on duty. The LAPD is adding the fully electric police/military all-terrain bikes to its patrol fleet. According to Officer Steve Carbajal of the department's off-road unit, "It costs less than 50 cents to charge compared to using gallons of gas, maintenance is simple, and the community appreciates how quiet they are." The electric bikes, with their lack of noise and a headlight the rider can turn off, also have the benefit of stealth, giving the officers what Carbajal calls "an added tactical advantage." The MMX also has swappable batteries, is designed for quick ignition and has power reserve capabilities so the rider won't be caught with a dead battery while chasing down a perp. Read more at Ride Apart. Remember when it seemed like we'd never run out of oil, and giving your buddy five bucks for gas was actually a worthwhile gesture? Drivers of classic cars in Detroit were able to fill up their tanks at gas prices corresponding to their model year, thanks to a promotion by Hagerty Insurance for National Collector Car Appreciation Day on July 11. That meant prices from 21 to 90 cents a gallon, as the cars that showed up ranged from the years 1929 to 1989. That's about as affordable as charging your EV. Head over to Autoweek for more details and some photos from the event. The next-generation Chevrolet Volt will likely benefit from a new inverter being developed by General Motors. GM is about two-thirds of the way through the development of the new inverter, which should be ready in January 2016. The inverter, which has a peak output of 55 kilowatts a continuous output of 33 kilowatts, will be adaptable for use in other GM vehicles. Chevrolet is working to reduce the Volt's production costs by $10,000 per vehicle, which should make it more affordable, and the new inverter could help reach that goal should it make its way into the car. Read more at Green Car Reports. Hyundai is likely planning some interesting powertrain changes for the 2016 Tucson, says Green Car Reports. Plug-in hybrid? Maybe. Diesel? Probably not. "We are covering the waterfront on all alternative fuel strategies, from standard hybrid, to plug-in, battery-electric, and fuel cell," says Hyundai's US Chief Dave Zuchowski.

Chevy SS prototype spotted wearing Pontiac G8 clothes
Tue, 28 Aug 2012
Do not adjust your computer screen, you are not seeing the rebirth of the Pontiac brand. General Motors has chosen to use a G8 to disguise a test mule for the latest prototype of the forthcoming Chevrolet SS. The G8 was closely related to the Holden Commodore and Vauxhall VXR, the platform upon which the new Chevrolet performance model will be based. It should come as little surprise, then, that GM has opted to use the cladding from the former G8.
Thought the front clip of this mule is pure Pontiac, note the vents immediately behind the front wheel. That is a distinctive design hallmark of the Vauxhall VXR. Also note that this vehicle is right-hand drive, as the Holden and its Chevy counterpart will be very closely related. That likely includes potential drivetrains. The spy photos of this mule also reveal very wide rear tires, and rear wheels that do not match the fronts.
