I bought this 1963 Corvair when I was on military duty in the Missouri back in 1990. I was at the US Army Engineer Officer School at Ft. Leonard Wood and saw this car for sale right outside the gate. I bought it from an older gentleman named Shelby.

Well I liked the way the car looked and there really wasn't much to do at Ft. Leonard wood after our courses were finished for the day, so I bought this car and began to drive it around post. I brought it to the auto club/shop and worked on tuning her up just right and waxed and washed her often. Well when duty was over at EOBC I had a friend fly out to MO from NY and we drove it back across country upon my graduation. I had aviator shades, we had a boom box in the back, and my friend got a pretty bad sunburn on that trip, but we were young and had the time of our lives in that car on that trip.

Unfortunately, that was really the end of my use of the is beauty. I got to drive my Dad in it once, and then it just sat for years in my driveway. I got busy with life, had a family, some point along the way got deployed to the middle east, survived that, and now I'm a middle aged guy.
I have wrestled with the idea of fixing her up again to give my son, but I own a few businesses now, and I really don't have the time to restore her.

It was beautiful when I first bought it but she all those years then about a couple of years ago when I towed it to a garage to get the mechanicals back up and running. I spent about 3 grand to get her running again and then it sat again for a couple of years.

It's time to cut her loose for someone to restore the splendor back into this car.

I believe I'm the second owner, although not sure.

She started up fine after I got her back from the garage, but as mentioned I let her sit again. I went out there last week to put a chargepack on the car, and the ignition turned the electrics on, but she didn't crank. This cars electrics and systems are so simple, it's probably a simple fix.

She has quite a bit of surface rust, but I took an automotive sander to one corner of her, and was happy to see that she would sand down to nice shiny metal. The floorboards will definitely need replacing and same with interior.

Make no mistake about this car, it is definitely a project car and I'm selling it "as-is", but I also think that with a bit of "can-do" attitude, and some time this car will make a nice restoration. Hell, if you do a good job, contact me, I might even buy it back from you!

But for now, she does have to go, I bought another muscle car, that I'm anxious to actually drive around in , but wifey wants this one gone now. So help a retired US Army Officer and bid away on this symbol of Americana (but only bid if you are prepared to take on a project or use her ...dare I say this, for parts...).

She has a clean title from Missouri. Not sure of mileage on vehicle, but I certainly didnt drive it that much and I seem to think it's in the mid 50's.

According to this a VIN Checker she was manufactured in Willow Run , MI.

Chevrolet Malibu could last until 2024 before joining the dodo

Wed, Jul 31 2019

Automotive News pieced together all available intel on the Chevrolet and GMC lineups, trying to ascertain how much life each model might have left. Concerning the Chevrolet Malibu, the answer is not too much, and the historic nameplate's final years don't look like the glory kind. After a major overhaul in 2016 boosted sales for the ninth-generation sedan to 227,881 units, the 2018 sales fell to 144,542, and this year's are down almost 15% through the end of June. The Malibu is one of two Chevrolet sedans still breathing - the other being the Impala for now - but only for about five more years. AN says there'll likely be a refresh in 2022, followed by a visit from the Reaper in 2024. After that, it could be "indirectly replaced" by an electric vehicle, one of the 23 EVs that GM is working on for 2023.     The Impala will meet the ax earlier despite a recent stay of execution. Production is still set to close in January 2020. In the entire GM stable, Cadillac might soon be the only marque with sedans. The Buick LaCrosse has a date with death, and Groupe PSA won't supply Opels-as-Regals forever.  The Sonic hatchback should say goodbye at the end of 2020, a year before the seemingly eternal Spark is thought to die. Two years after that, according to one report, the Camaro will go back into cold storage, perhaps forever, and AN says an "expected redesign of the car in 2021 was reportedly canceled." Finally, let's give one final shout-out to the Chevrolet Cruze, a global nameplate, which in the United States alone outsells the Malibu, outsold the Camaro by a factor of three last year, and absolutely trounces the Impala, Sonic, and Spark. Even that couldn't get a stay of execution. In more uplifting news, everything's happening on the crossover and truck side in the next few years. The Chevy Bolt is due for a refresh next year, even though it has "become more important for self-driving ride-hailing fleets that GM Cruise plans to operate than for consumers." In 2021, the Bolt-based crossover should bow, first in China, then here. It's said to look like "a mix of the Bolt and Trax" in spy shots. Still waiting for a green light: a possible subcompact GMC crossover called Granite that might make it to market by 2023. The full-sized SUV triplets Tahoe, Suburban, and Yukon could show their new faces in 2020. The Silverado might get an updated interior in 2020 or 2021, while the Colorado and Canyon mid-sized pickups won't get attention until perhaps 2023.

Watch a 2015 Corvette Z06 run the quarter in 11.7 seconds

Sun, Dec 28 2014

We're not writing about this because it's an amazing run, we're writing about it because it appears to be the first run. Someone took a 2015 Corvette Z06 to Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas and blasted it down through the quarter mile. It's still wearing the dealer number in wax pen on the windshield and dealer plates, so this example is fresh from the mold. It's also a seven-speed manual. General Motors said the row-your-own Z06 can do the 'strip in 11.2 seconds, and they undoubtedly had a professional driver and more than one run to set that time. To have Just Some Guy show up at the raceway and do an 11.7 at 120.54 mph on his first run means we expect good things to come as Z06s get delivered to their owners. Check out the run in the video.

Here's why automakers roll out those Texas-themed pickup trucks

Thu, Sep 29 2016

Every year, automakers with a full-size truck link make a big show of the Texas State Fair, usually involving a reveal of a new model. Sometimes they show a whole new truck, and other times a special edition centered on the Lone Star state. While some people might write this off as a quirk of the industry, others might be wondering, "What's the big deal with Texas?" As it turns out, part of the big deal with Texas is big truck sales. According to Dave Sullivan, product analysis manager at AutoPacific, Texas buys more trucks than any other state in the country. It's not a small margin either. Edmunds.com, one in five trucks sold in the US are sold in Texas. The state also accounts for 15 percent of the country's large truck sales, which is more than twice that of California, the second largest truck market in America. Even when you break down sales only in Texas, trucks are a huge piece of the pie - Sullivan says that a quarter of new vehicle sales in Texas are trucks. One in five trucks sold in the US are sold in Texas. But it's not just sales that make truck builders give attention to Texas. As Sullivan explained, "Pickups are life in Texas." Both he and Hugh Milne, marketing and advertising manager for the Chevy Silverado line, said that trucks are key fixtures in Texas society, as both work trucks and luxury vehicles (or Texas Cadillacs as Milne called them). Milne said Texas is so important in the truck market that if you want to be successful in the rest of the country, "you've got to be successful in Texas." As for the State Fair, it has become a prime location for reveals in part because of the importance of the Texas market and because of how big the fair is. Milne also revealed that the State Fair also hosts its own auto show, so it's an ideal venue for a vehicle introduction. So there you have it. Why do truck builders obsess over Texas? It's because Texas obsesses over trucks. When you have one market that loves your product that much, you give it the attention it deserves.
