1962 Chevrolet Corvair 500

Low mileage. Just out of long term storage. Has new battery and newer tires.
This car needs complete mechanical restoration.
Had carburetors rebuilt, were not done properly.

Can get engine to pop and start with bowls full, but will not stay running.  Ghost of Ralph Nadar, because of the smart a** license plates?
Needs brakes gone thru.  Undrive-able, trailer pick up only.
Car is solid, with exceptions of front floor pans.  Included in sale is pair of new pans.
Rear left quarter is peppered with door dings, body is still solid with good wheel lips, and under eyebrows up front.
Believe it is mostly original paint.  Odometer shows 18234 miles. Cannot verify mileage, but judging body and interior, believe that it could be correct.
Gas tank is out of car, needs to be flushed and checked.  Currently sort of running off temp gas can in engine bay.
Bought car with intention of letting my kids drive it, but they think it is goofy and gross.   Since they have no interest, I have now lost mine.
This would be a good starting point for a restoration without breaking the bank.

Will list it one time, with a $2500 BUY IT NOW, which is about my break even.  There is a secret reserve of $2000.  If it doesn't make that, I will push it to the back of the garage and sit on it for awhile.
Any and all inspections/questions are encouraged.

Require $200 pay pal deposit if you are winning bidder WITHIN 24 HOURS. This deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE.

Buyer to arrange pickup, will help any way I can.  Final payment to be CASH in person or WIRE TRANFER.
Car and Title will not be released until paid for.

If it sells to IOWA resident, I can have plates transferred with vehicle. Any out of state buyers, I will keep plates to turn in.

Chevy Trax engineer says GMC version possible

Mon, Dec 8 2014

The Buick Encore is doing so well and its platform-mate the Chevrolet Trax has such good reviewer vibes going for it already, that a GMC version hasn't been ruled out. During the recent press launch, Automotive News asked lead engineer Al Manzor if the Trax could wear a GMC-branded suit, to which Manzor replied, "I think that is certainly possible." That's a long way from telling us anything about the probability of a GMC version of the Trax, and a legion of questions would need to be answered before it could happen. How would a GMC version be priced to leave room for the $26,465 GMC Terrain but not eat into sales of the $20,995 Trax or the $24,035 Encore? Or would that matter? Could it primarily be considered to encourage a new faction of The Yukon Set at the compact end, GMC buyers being famously committed to the marque? And of course, would there be a Denali version? It'll probably be a long while before we have any kind of answers, but if you want to see it happen, the door to your campaign of persuasion is at least ajar.

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.

GM already raising prices on 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickups

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

General Motors must be pretty pleased with sales of its two newest pickups, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, as it's announced price hikes for both models, as part of a planned price tweak.
Prices will be bumped by as much as $1,500, although weirdly, they'll be offset by as much as $1,500 in cash-back offers through the end of October. Fox Business reports that GM spokesman Jim Cain said of the price hike, "With the sell down of the '13 models nearly complete, this price adjustment was planned and is a normal part of business."
The move, as Fox is quick to point out, is an interesting one, as sales of the twin pickups struggled last month relative to the Ford F-Series, while both of GM's crosstown competitors have been aggressively undercutting Silverado and Sierra prices. The F-150 starts at $24,070 and the Ram 1500 comes in at $23,600, not counting any cash on the hood. A base Silverado, meanwhile, retails at $25,575.
