2016 Chevy Volt powertrain video teasers

If there's one thing we've learned about plug-in vehicle fans, you have a thing for seeing your cars get made. The series of videos showing BMW i3 production was strangely popular, as were the shots from inside the VW e-Golf plant. Well, with General Motors pulling the veil off of the 2016 Chevy Volt this week, it's time to take a peek at the production process for that vehicle as well. You're welcome. Up first we've got a clip from CNN Money showing a little bit about how the new Volt's new battery pack and other powertrain components are made. Those of you who are trying to read the lithium tea leaves and see if the new shape reveals that the 2016 Volt will have five seats might want to check it out. Then we've got two clips from GM itself, one showing an animation about the updated Voltec powertrain and another with some B Roll of the old Volt. Very first Chevy Camaro found and restored

Restoring an important classic car can lead people down rabbit hole upon rabbit hole of discovered history in a process that's essentially automotive genealogy. Take the recent rejuvenation of the very first Chevrolet Camaro as an example. The owners started with a strong hunch that the vehicle might be something special and spent years researching to figure it all out before the mechanical work even began. Fisher Body kicked off work on the first Camaro on May 17, 1966, and it was delivered to General Motors just a few days later for final assembly. While the model has earned a place as an American performance icon since then, the original was built more to develop the production process and boasted just a 230-cubic-inch (3.8-liter) inline six and 3-speed transmission. After spending its first few months appearing in promotions, a Chevy dealer in Oklahoma got the gold car in December of '66. It was touted on the sales floor there for years, and the first private owner didn't come until 1969. This short documentary goes into astonishingly comprehensive detail about every bit of the first Camaro's history. China's rise, global restructuring wither GM's Korea division

An article in the Daily Kanban suggests the sun is setting on GM Korea, and it could already be well into dusk. GM Korea came about when General Motors, along with co-investors SAIC and Suzuki, bought Daewoo Motors from parent company Daewoo Group in 2001; it had a previous tie-up with GM, a joint venture that ended in 1992, although Daewoo cars were based on GM cars until 1996. Over the decade following the purchase, it became such an important part of operations that it was renamed GM Korea in 2011, "to reflect its heightened status in [the] global operations of GM." Just two years later, the printed rumors were that the subsidiary responsible for a fifth of Chevrolet's global production could be shutting down. The division's sales were down almost 21 percent through November of last year, counting domestic South Korean sales, exports, and CKD – Complete Knock Down – products. That makes the labor strife, already an issue for four years, even more acute, reports say the subsidiary will lose $36 million a year if it can't get the job and wage cuts it wants, and government concessions can't make up for the losses.
