I recently purchased this vehicle on a whim believing I could finish it up in no time and have a cool ride.  The previous owner spent 2 years getting it to the point that it could be driven, so I was sure it would be no big deal to complete the process.  As a 70 year old, you  think I would know better!  Therefore, it is being offered for sale to someone motivated to follow it through to the finish..   There are many great things to say about the car and I`ll cover those first.  The sheet metal is really solid.  He took it down to the metal, fixed very few pinholes of rust on the fender dog legs, then sprayed it.  When I drove it home, I took a magnet and went over the entire outside and found those lower fender areas the only places the magnet would not hold.   There has been a repair to the passenger side rear floorboard, but the rest of the inside and the trunk floor is solid.  All in all, this body is in great shape for a 47 year old car.  I believe the steel hood is from an SS 396, but I don`t know that for a fact.  Regarding the engine, he told me it was a 350.  I looked for the stamped code on the passenger side cylinder head pad and found nothing.  I then recalled seeing that missing only when a block has been decked, and I believe that was done here.  After further inspection, I found two decals on the passenger side of the block indicating it was a Four Star rebuild from Precision Machine in Jacksonville, Fl.  It also had a production code, so I`m hoping they can research the number and give me the engine information.  I will add that to the description if I am successful.   The transmission, I believe, is a Tremac T5 and shifts out fine.  I believe the clutch is heavy duty.  The rear end appears to be the stock 10 bolt.  The wheels are 15" Rally with 215/60/R15 front, and 235/50/R15 rear.  All the tires look great.  By the way, I asked the previous owner why, after putting so much time and effort into the car,  he was selling it.  He explained that he had found a tractor he wanted, but had to keep it in the garage, so the car had to go.  The car has a new front bumper, new radiator, new fuel tank, new exhaust pipes and mufflers, new door mirrors, new front windshield, and power disc brakes (drum rear).  Now, the items needed.  It has no headliner, is missing the stock front seats (he bolted some black buckets with tracks out of a VW, I think).  There are only a couple of moldings for the windshield and back glass included.  It is missing the heater control and radio.  It needs carpet, a dash pad (cracked), and the rear parcel shelf cover.  I have done my best to describe this car as it sits and apologize in advance if I have overlooked any important details.  I feel I`ve put a very reasonable reserve on the car and know that it has the potential of being a great driver once completed.

Take a close look at the guts of the Chevy Volt battery, powertrain

Sat, Aug 9 2014

Just how intimate would you like to get with the powertrain in a Chevy Volt? If you're anything like YouTube user d55guy, then spending a half hour filming yourself taking apart the battery pack, motor, inverter and more for a look inside sounds like your idea of fun. After all, this way you get to see the cooling system, the heavy safety kill switch and count up the individual cells in the battery modules. Fun! Turns out, we also enjoy languidly paced Volt dissection video goodness, and we think you might want to see it as well. So, we've embedded two videos below and if you don't have a better understanding of how the Volt is put together after watching them, well, at least you can't say we never tried to show you anything. Given that what's really happening here is the organized 'destruction' of an expensive and potentially dangerous object, let's talk safety. There's a serious disclaimer at the beginning of the videos and on the YouTube description page, but we feel the need to repeat the gist of it here: do not try this at home. The creator of the video says he is a trained engineer and has been doing things like this "for the better part of a decade," so he apparently knows what he's doing. With that in mind, watch it all below. When you're done seeing the insides of a Volt powertrain up close, if you need more filmed EV dissection/destruction, check out this video designed for first responders approaching a damaged Tesla Model S. GM recalls Colorado, Canyon, and Malibu for airbag problem

Wed, Mar 9 2016

The Basics: General Motors will recall and issue a stop sale on 1,740 total examples of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, Malibu, and GMC Canyon. This includes 1,579 units in the US and 161 in Canada. The Problem: The second stage of the driver front airbag inflator might not be present. If this happens, the airbag won't fill as quickly as it should in a high-speed crash, which could increase the risk of injury, according to Reuters. This is not related in any way to Takata's inflator problems, and these parts come from a different supplier. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: GM will replace the vehicles' airbag assemblies. If You Own One: GM spokesperson Tom Wilkinson told Autoblog he wasn't specifically sure when recall repairs would begin but said it would be "shortly." He expects the fixes to happen "quickly" because of the small number of affected vehicles, and many of them are either in transport or already in dealer stock. More Information: GM recalled the 2015 Canyon and Colorado in 2014 for a completely separate airbag issue. In that case, a manufacturing error improperly wired the connectors. Related Video: GM Statement GM is recalling 1,579 MY 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Malibu vehicles in the United States and 161 in Canada to replace driver-side front airbags. The second stage of the airbag may not deploy properly in certain high-speed crashes. During a routine quality inspection, it was determined that a component required for a second-stage/high-output deployment was not loaded during the inflator build. Dealers will replace the driver-side front airbag assembly. There have been no reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue. This issue is unrelated to the ongoing Takata recalls.

Texas sues GM, saying it tricked customers into sharing driving data sold to insurers

Wed, Aug 14 2024

Texas filed a lawsuit Tuesday against GM over years of alleged abuse of customers' data and trust. New car owners were presented with a "confusing and highly misleading" process that was implied to be for their safety, but "was no more than a deceptively designed sales flow" that surrendered their data for GM to sell. The suit contends that at no point was selling driving data ever even suggested as a possibility, putting GM in violation of the state's consumer protection laws. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is seeking a jury trial and at least $10,000 per offense (every GM car sold in the state since 2015) and a hefty add-on of $250,000 in cases where the victim was over 65. Texas seems to be flying high after a recent $1.4 billion settlement from Meta over other privacy concerns. This may well be a way to solve any pending budgetary issues in the Lone Star State.
