1974 Chevelle Laguna S-3, 454, Turbo 400, Rat Rod, Original Paint on 2040-cars
Lovington, Illinois, United States
This 1974 Chevelle Laguna S-3 may not be the prettiest to look at, but if you have ever heard the phrase looks can be deceiving, it was about this car. The paint is original, as is the interior. There is nothing hiding on this car, no one has packed the rust spots full of filler or made a 2" dent smooth with putty. Its a good, honest, original, 1974 Chevelle on the outside. The paint is checking and there is rust around the wheel arches, however the wheel houses, floor, and frame are perfect. The last time this car was on the road, before we rebuilt her, was in 1984. We at Acme Rods have been doing restorations for 15 years, from concourse correct cars to wild hot rods we will build them all. When this came into the shop last year I had to do a double take, think about it when is the last time you saw one of these cars, they all died a slow death. This car is an original 454 equipped S-3 factory turbo 400, with the rare for its day 3.42 rear gear with a positraction carrier. This is a low production number car thanks to the gas crunch! The original 454 was missing, but the rest of the car was a time capsule. So as the customer requested we built another 454 to reside between the fenders. Now a lot has changed since 1974 in the world of performance engines, thank goodness. This particular 454 has been warmed up a little shall we say. It has an aftermarket cam, Aluminum intake, tube headers, Edelbrock carb, and an HEI ignition thrown into the mix. All of these parts went onto a freshly machined block, rotating assembly, and heads. It retains a standard bore and crank, so plenty of life left on all the internal parts. This package made 464hp and 527trq. Make no mistake this car has more power than you will need. The exhaust is all new and has Magnaflow mufflers. Its loud, it drinks a lot of gas, and it will eat tires off quickly. This is not a daily driver type of car, its angry, ugly, and will annoy anyone that does not like hot rods. Just how we like em here at Acme! The driveline has been completely gone through. Trans was serviced, rear end rebuilt, brakes replaced including lines and master cylinder, and any steering components that needed replaced were. The wiring was sub par to say the least, so a complete painless harness was installed, while the dash was out to convert the fuse block over an new heater core was installed. The rest of the electrical system received treatment too, new alternator, starter, and battery. A new radiator was fitted also. The interior is original, it has rips and holes here and there but its original and completely intact. It still has the original carpet in it. What redeems the interior is the swivel front bucket seats, those are just flat cool. We are selling this for our customer so he can fund his next build. Now before you go jumping into a bid do the research, these cars are climbing in value quickly now. Also, be aware this car will offend someone you know, it just part of its nature, if you are ok with that ( chances are you know exactly which person that will be) then by all means go for it. If you have any further questions please ask them, we answer everyone of them. We want you to be happy with your purchase and confident in the work we have done, we like repeat customers and have a following of them! |

Chevy Camaro is a good sport, wishes Ford Mustang Happy 50th
Tue, 15 Apr 2014It was 1966 when Chevrolet launched its challenger to the wildly successful Ford Mustang, the Camaro. While the competition between the two brands was already healthy, the arrival of the Camaro set off one of the most intense, model-to-model rivalries in the industry.
That competitive spirit hasn't stopped Chevy and the Camaro from wishing Ford's iconic muscle car a Happy 50th Birthday as the Ford's April 17 anniversary rolls around. These two cars have been linked over the years, and while the rivalry took a break for a few years in the 2000s, today's competition between the Camaro and Mustang is as fierce as it's ever been.
You might recall that this friendliness when it comes to major milestones isn't too rare. Ford put on quite a display for General Motors' hundredth anniversary back in 2008. As the Camaro's fiftieth birthday approaches in 2016, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Mustang sending its best wishes to its Bowtie rival.
GM natural gas-powered vans recalled due to possible leak
Wed, Sep 24 2014General Motors is recalling almost 3,200 of its compressed-natural-gas powered utility vans because of possible leaks. GM and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a notice last week saying that 3,196 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana CNG vans are on recall, though no accidents have been reported due to the possible issue. The recall is specifically for vans for model years ranging from 2011 to 2014. The recall stems from a potential leak from the compressed natural gas high-pressure regulator, and such a leak could cause a fire or explosion. GM will replace the vehicles' high-pressure regulator in order to fix the problem, will do it free of charge and is instructing owners to contact Chevrolet or GMC customer service to arrange for the parts replacement. Utility vehicle makers like General Motors have pushed for fleet sales of CNG-powered vans and trucks for the past few years and have touted them for their cheaper refueling costs relative to standard gasoline, not to mention the fact that natural gas can be readily sourced from throughout North America (thanks, fracking). According to CNGPrices.com, compressed natural gas sells for about $2.22 a gallon, on average, while the AAA is pegging the average price of gas at $3.34 a gallon. NHTSA has posted information on the recall here. Featured Gallery News Source: NHTSA via Reuters Green Chevrolet GM GMC Natural Gas Vehicles CNG gmc savana
Junkyard Gem: 1988 Chevrolet Spectrum Sport Coupe
Wed, Aug 23 2023Before General Motors created the Geo brand for cars built or designed by its overseas partners, the Chevrolet Division put its badges on U.S.-market versions of the Toyota Corolla Sprinter, the Suzuki Cultus and the Isuzu Gemini. Those cars were known as the Nova, the Sprint and the Spectrum, and all became Geos starting with the 1989 model year. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of the last Chevy Spectrums ever sold, found in a Denver self-service yard a few months ago. Midway through 1988, the Chevrolet Spectrum abruptly became the Geo Spectrum and was assigned to the 1989 model year. This car was built in May 1988, making it one of the very last of the pre-Geo Spectrums. The Chevrolet/Geo Spectrum was available as a four-door sedan and as a three-door hatchback, from the 1985 through 1989 model years. For 1988 only, a Spectrum Sport Coupe package, featuring some trim upgrades and these rad decals, could be had on the hatchback. This car was essentially identical to its Isuzu-badged counterpart, the I-Mark. In 1988, the MSRP for the cheapest possible Chevy Spectrum hatchback (the stripped-down Spectrum Express) was $6,495, while its somewhat better-equipped I-Mark twin started at $7,439 (that's $17,128 and $19,617 in 2023 dollars). Meanwhile, the base Hyundai Excel hatchback listed at $5,295 and the Yugo GV cost a hilarious $4,199 ($13,963 and $10,941 in today's money). Power came from this 1.5-liter SOHC four-cylinder, rated at 70 horsepower. A turbocharged version with 110 horsepower was available as well. You could get an automatic transmission in the Spectrum, but this car has the base five-speed manual. This car didn't get the optional air conditioning, but at least it has the traditional Isuzu HVAC control icons featuring blow-dried hair and high-heeled dominatrix boots. Just over 170,000 miles on the odometer. Someone installed a pretty good (for the 1980s) Blaupunkt Charlotte CR148 cassette deck in the dash. This was a necessity if you wanted to enjoy full appreciation of the music of the era. The Spectrum is special! It's as slick as city rain. "I didn't spend a lot of money but with my Spectrum it looks like I did." Joe Isuzu mocked Toyota salesmen when pitching the I-Mark. As was nearly always the case during the 1980s, the JDM ads for the same car were much more fun. They should have recreated this commercial with Spectrums.
