1972 Chevelle Concours Station Wagon on 2040-cars
Shirley, New York, United States
1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Concours station wagon. $4000 firm. 350 small block, TH350 transmission. Car has been my daily driver for the last ten years. Built in Van Nuys California, I brought it to NY in the spring of 2004. The car has rust in the usual places (driver's side rear wheel well, both lower rear quarters, a bit in the lower doors etc.) the floors are good, the frame is good. The real rust issue is the tail gate. The lower skin is rusting, plus the tracks in the door for the glass has started to rust, window still goes up and down (manual crank) but it will need to be addressed soon. Right front fender and hood are replacements. I repainted the car three years ago, never buffed it, so it has a semi-flat look to it. The roof rack has been removed, and the holes filled with rubber plugs. I still have the pieces for the rack. The car needs a windshield to pass inspection, all other glass is fine. Just recently had some bushings and a tie rod end replaced on the front end, needs alignment. Car has power steering and power brakes. The transmission is good, I had it overhauled twice in the ten years I've had it. The engine runs fine, it does burn some oil when it's first started, and the plug in the number 7 cylinder gets fouled after several hundred miles, I'm guessing that it's a leaky valve and there's oil getting in there that way, but I'm no expert. 650 Holley double pumper carb with manual choke, Edelbrock intake. Interior is OK, back seat was redone at some point, front seat was too, but it got worn out and its springs are worn too. Car had A/C, compressor's frozen. One tear in headliner on passenger side over front seat. Gas gauge doesn't work correctly, a full tank only reads at about 1/3 full. Empty tank reads empty. New tires all around, 71-72 Chevelle SS 15" five spoke wheels. Was garaged until this summer. I am still driving this car daily, it's just reaching the point where it's going to need some TLC or be retired from daily use and I am not in a position to give it what it needs. I can send you any photos you need, just ask. Thanks for looking!

Nissan Leaf sales get January jump as Chevy Volt trends downward
Mon, Feb 3 2014The cold January sales dip hit both the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt last month, but when compared 2014 to 2013's first-month-of-the-year sales totals, one of the two early plug-in vehicles obviously came out on top. The top Leaf market also shifted away from Atlanta for the first time in months. Last year, the Leaf sold just 650 units in January, but it managed to move 1,252 last month, a 92.6-percent increase over 2013 but a big drop from the 2,529 sold in December 2013. Paige Presley over at Nissan told AutoblogGreen that the Leaf has now broken sales records for 11 months straight and that, "we see unique seasonality with some December pull-ahead demand based on federal and state tax incentives." The number one Leaf market also shifted away from Atlanta for the first time in months, moving back to San Francisco. That change could be short-lived. "We had some inventory constraint issues early in the month in Atlanta with end-of-year demand depleting stock," Presley said. "By the time we resolved that, the weather hampered sales." There was not as much good news on the Chevrolet front. Last month, the Volt sold 918 units, down from 1,140 in January 2013 and 2,392 in December 2013. It also marks the first time the Volt has sold in the three-digit range since January 2012, when it sold 603 copies. That string of solid months means that the plug-in hybrid has a roughly 12,000-unit lead over the EV since the two cars brought plug-in vehicles back to the mass market all the way back in December 2010. We will have our full report of January's green car sales up soon.
Watch this time-lapse build of the Chevy SS for NASCAR
Fri, 08 Feb 2013There's only about a week left until we get our first look at the production version of the 2014 Chevrolet SS sedan, but Chevrolet NASCAR teams have been looking at the race version of the car all winter. Autoweek has posted a really neat time-lapse video showing just a portion of what it takes to build one of NASCAR's new Gen6 stock cars.
Though the video is quite brief, it does show almost the entire build process starting with just the car's nose, and it gives us a good look at how integral the template is to the final product. As a bonus, Hendrick Motorsports also provided some videos showing two of its teams performing pit stop tests over the winter. The second video shows some of the more detailed aspects of the racecar's rear end, including the stock-looking trunk cutout and a newly mandated rear bumper extension that will be used on super speedways like Daytona and Talladega.
To see what Team Chevy has been up to all off-season, check out all three videos posted after the jump.
'84 MotorWeek Cherokee, Bronco and Blazer comparison indulges your SUV nostalgia
Fri, Jan 16 2015These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test. Check out this clip to see just how far this segment has progressed in the past three decades or just get a blast of nostalgia from these now vintage models.
