First off, is it a real SS? Who knows, I don't have paper work on this car from the factory and there is no other way to tell that I know of. The engine is a 73 so that's not original for sure plus I know where the engine came from. When I got the car it had the SS fender emblems but since it had a 454 engine, and someone I know had the 454 emblems new, so I used them. It does have a lot of SS items on it such as the dash. Same on the mileage, it shows 53,500 but who know. Now for what I do know, this is a very good driver quality car in looks and performance ready for everyday use. Very little signs of rust, I had the lower section of both front fenders repaired and painted. On the lip of the trunk there has been some repair also. The rear quarters appear to be original and still have the vin number stamped in them. There is some spots on the hood like something was splattered on it, it dont show up on the stripes but on the body color, they might be wet sanded out, not sure, I should have had them touched up when I had the fenders done but didn't really think it looks that bad especially with a good coat of wax. I took a picture of hood area and there is not much wax on the car now so they should show up. There is also some other scratches that need to be touched up but normal stuff from driving and using. All in all a very presentable driver quality car. As for the interior I am sure most of it has been replaced, console has not been and has some scratches, no radio in the dash, ac control is in the dash but looks bad. Speedometer and gas gage works but has aftermarket gages for oil and water. Worse place on the interior is the edge of the rear side panel is wore off like someone got in and out of the back seat a lot or possible rubbed by driver. Has all the front belts and some of the back. Very good driver quality interior. As for the mechanical there is no know big issues, most of the ac equiptment is gone and one of the previous owners said they were getting ready to put a aftermarket system in it. That's probably the best way to go if you want ac. The engine is a 73 model 454 with 781 heads. It had a stock rebuild with maybe a torque cam. Its .020 over and has flat top stock pistons and internals with a .010/.010 crank. I added a high volume oil pump, reworked valve springs, and Howards cam with .525 lift. Engine was to mild for a muscle car. It sound great now with a good thump, works with 2000 street rod converter and is very drivable. Other engine improvments are a aluminum intake and good working 750 vac sec Holley carb. Most of the engine accessories are new, water pump, alternator, fuel pump, radiator, dist, plugs, wires, etc. Oil just changed and is ready to go. I don't know much about the turbo 400 but it has been modified some and works good, does not have the kick down hooked up so its better to manually shift it but you don't have to. Same on rear end, its a 12 bolt posi with 373 gears is what I was told and that appears to be correct, if anything a little higher like 3.55. Its good for cruising the highway. Has headers with dual flowmasters ending at rear axle, should have tail pipes but I like it. I have to many cars so I priced it reasonable for a cash sell but I might do some trading. Tri 5 Chevy straight axle gasser or other gassers would be on top of the list. I would listen to anything on a part trade. I just bought a 55 chevy to build a street car from but if the right think came along I could sell it. I check my emails often so anything you want to know I will be glad to answer by email or I will call you if you prefer. I can deliver with in a couple hundred miles of north central Arkansas and can arrange delivery elsewhere if you need it. I prefer you come and look at the car and go for a cruise if you are interested. The car will probably be advertised other places also. Thanks a lot for looking, Jerry

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be
Thu, May 27 2021We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient. View this post on Instagram A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version. Weekly Recap: Geneva's splendor reflects growing demand for ultra-luxury cars
Sat, Mar 7 2015Geneva is one of the most glittering auto shows in the world, but the list of high-powered and bespoke luxury cars was decadent this year even by the rich standards of the Swiss exhibition. It's great for enthusiasts to revel in the flame-throwing Aston Martin Vulcan, the racing-inspired elegance of the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept and the insane performance of the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce, but there's a reason for all of this opulence: the luxury market is big business. And it's growing. IHS Automotive forecasts that so-called ultra-premium sales will nearly triple this decade from 123,000 to 353,000 units around the world. The estimate includes brands like Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari and Rolls-Royce, but doesn't count BMW, Mercedes and Audi, which offer less expensive models in addition to their high-end flagships. Though IHS includes Porsche and its relatively large volume in the study, the ultra-premium segment is still set grow at about the same rate, even without the German automaker's figures. So what is propelling all of this growth in the most expensive segment of the auto industry? Put simply, there's more rich people. IHS Automotive principal analyst Tim Urquhart pointed to economic expansion in China, market recovery in the United States and a surge in the lucrative technology sector as contributing factors. This dovetails with a research report by UK-based Oxfam, an international relief organization, which found the world's richest one-percent owned 48 percent of global wealth in 2014, and it's expected to increase to more than 50 percent by 2016. View 17 Photos Carmakers are moving quickly to capitalize with new products, expanding their portfolios with low-volume speedsters like the 800-hp V12 Vulcan at Geneva, and plans to enter new segments, like Rolls-Royce's strategy to make an SUV. "Ultra-premium carmakers are looking to explore ways of growing their product offerings, and thus their bottom lines, in this most potentially profitable of segments," Urquhart wrote in a report on the Geneva show. In a nutshell, there are more choices for people with more money. It's a good time to have expensive taste. Other News & Notes 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata production launches It won't be long now. 2016 Chevy Volt powertrain video teasers
Fri, Oct 31 2014If there's one thing we've learned about plug-in vehicle fans, you have a thing for seeing your cars get made. The series of videos showing BMW i3 production was strangely popular, as were the shots from inside the VW e-Golf plant. Well, with General Motors pulling the veil off of the 2016 Chevy Volt this week, it's time to take a peek at the production process for that vehicle as well. You're welcome. Up first we've got a clip from CNN Money showing a little bit about how the new Volt's new battery pack and other powertrain components are made. Those of you who are trying to read the lithium tea leaves and see if the new shape reveals that the 2016 Volt will have five seats might want to check it out. Then we've got two clips from GM itself, one showing an animation about the updated Voltec powertrain and another with some B Roll of the old Volt. Since GM doesn't want us to see the new car quite yet, we'll have to enjoy this for now. Watch below. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences.
