1970 Chevelle with the L78 engine
(396 CI w/375HP). I have owned the car since September of 2003. It was delivered with 29413 miles on the odometer;
it now has 32568 which represent about 300 miles per year. I will not use adjectives like “awesome” (the Grand
Canyon & Great wall are more deserving of the moniker), “born” (it was "produced" on Oct, 21st 1969 in Atlanta
GA), since it is, a car, but in this case, a rare investment. There are a few hundred LS6 cars out there for sale
on any given day. I suspect a few more then actually were manufactured, aka: 67 Tri Carb Vettes and 69 1/2
Z-28’s. Even the $100K cars have flaws, for example the radio ground (Page 878 of the ASM) is never on any of
them. Take notes kids:
I have original build sheet (see picture) it is old and yellow but I took the picture. The block is replacement
CE/CKO and the heads set for unleaded gas. In every way I tried my damndest to adhere to my very dog eared
assembly manual. I have about 25 lbs of other books, journals and receipts that will be in the trunk of your
investment. I trudged the junk yards in five states to get OEM parts whenever possible. So, the fan, coil, alternator, oil cap, radiator cap, clips etc. are OEM. The block is a CE/CKO (402 4
speed)factory warranty replacement and the heads set up for unleaded gas. I am too stooped to rig stuff
regardless, and commons sense dictates that “rigging” while lending individuality, always decreases the value.
While it's fun to buy $500 in chrome at WalMart, you will need to find people to admire your egocentric handiwork.
It's a hell of a lot harder to go OEM, ***junkyards are lousy with woodticks, wasps and lack proper restroom
facilities.
I consistently rebuild the damn Holley carb every spring. Have the OEM alternator, fuel pump, (changed out all the
fuel lines), replaced the fuel tank, correct exhaust system (with resonators) added an NOS AM Radio. Annually
change all fluids, drained the tank, and blew out the fuel lines. Use Teflon gaskets on the bowls of the
ridiculously expensive 4557 correct Holley. Car has console, buckets added by the previous owners. The car is a high end driver, you cannot eat off the chassis as it is dealer rustproofed. My aforementioned lack of
a life did not include this painstaking removal process for a driver. I have never been to a car show where the
couple with the lawn chairs (that match the paint on the car) were dining off the rotisserie floor (light, dull red
) pan. These 900mg lithium control types always have that “Look but Don’t Touch” sign on their life defining
Chevelle.

Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo could only work in a video game [w/video]

Thu, Nov 20 2014

There's something wondrous about the Vision Gran Turismo series of concepts that has let companies go wild with completely imaginary concepts for Gran Turismo. For Chevrolet's crack at the idea, it has taken a page out of its performance past with the Chaparral Can-Am racers of the '60s and '70s, with its designers having reinterpreted that period look for the future of motorsports as the Chaparral 2X. In real life, the 2X looks even better than in earlier photos. The design takes inspiration from someone in a flying suit with head down and arms outstretched, an influence you can really see that in the vehicle's shape. The driver lies facedown inside with the instruments projected onto a visor. Unfortunately, the powertrain here is a complete flight of fancy and works purely in the video game world. It imagines a laser propelled by lithium-ion batteries and an air-powered generation to make 900 horsepower. The 2X has a theoretical top speed of 240 miles per hour and hits 60 mph in a lightning-quick 1.5 seconds. Scroll down to see the concept on video with Chevrolet designers describing their inspiration and read the company's full announcement. It's also downloadable in Gran Turismo 6. Chevrolet to Show Chaparral Vision Gran Turismo Concept Boundary-pushing, Chevy-powered race cars changed motorsports design DETROIT – When racers Jim Hall and Hap Sharp founded Chaparral Cars in 1962, few could have guessed how they would shake up the conformities of the racing world – and fundamentally change it. Through pioneering applications of aerodynamics and aerospace technology, and a partnership with Chevrolet Research and Development, Chaparral Cars advanced the science of racing cars. It also triumphed on the track over well-established sports car companies from around the world, using Chevrolet horsepower. It was that spirit of innovation that inspired the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X VGT concept race car developed for the Vision Gran Turismo project, which celebrates the 15th anniversary of PlayStation® racing game Gran Turismo by inviting manufacturers to give fans a glimpse into the future of automotive design. It will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Nov. 19, and gamers will be able race the Chaparral 2X VGT following the release of an online update for Gran Turismo 6 during the holiday season.

GM recalling nearly 4,000 vehicles over airbag concerns

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

Four different General Motors vehicles from the 2012 model year are being recalled over a potential airbag issue. The driver's side airbag shorting bar in the 2012 Buick Verano and 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, Cruze and Sonic might make contact with the airbag terminals, even during a crash. If so, the airbag won't deploy when it should, possibly increasing injury to the driver.
The recall is expected to begin on February 13 for the 3,896 units that might be affected. GM will notify owners who can then take their vehicles to dealers to have the airbag coil replaced. A bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration below has more info.

Valet mode captures joyride in red Corvette

Thu, Dec 18 2014

A man in California is among the first to catch a valet behaving badly in his 2015 Corvette using a controversial built-in recording feature. Dan Cowles told KTLA 5 when he bought his dream car, a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, he opted for the Performance Data Recorder. The Corvette PDR uses a high-definition camera mounted in the windshield header, a microphone in the cabin and a GPS receiver that record and track the sports car's movements and sounds. They work together to produce a video with telemetry overlay, so you can see acceleration rates, lap times and g-forces. The system can be customized to show extensive performance data, or simply video of your drive like a traditional dash cam. It also comes with Valet Mode, which locks the glove box, disables entertainment and records video. The audio recording feature ran afoul of several state's recording consent laws, but this video has no audio, indicating the fix may have been as easy as turning off the microphone. Cowles dropped off his hot red 'Vette with the valets at the Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts in Costa Mesa, CA. When he got his car back he checked the PDR and discovered footage of the valet taking a short, but intense, joyride in the garage. In the video, the valet finds a straightaway in a tiered parking garage and pushes the car to 50 miles per hour in five seconds before quickly stopping. He then parks the car without incident. The valet then gets out of the car and takes one more admiring look at the front. The valet company has yet to commented on the video, according to Fox News, but valets everywhere should be on notice; that little red Corvette you have your eye on may have its eyes on you.
