Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport or Yenko Convertible                                          Doesn't every red blooded American man or woman want a bright shiny red 1969 Chevelle Convertible? 1969 was the start of the pinnacle in the Muscle Car era, and a True Red 1969 Chevelle droptop is one of the most highly sought after muscle cars on the planet. They surely don't come around too often. I will point out everything I know about this classic Chevrolet. My business partner purchased this car from a gentleman in East Long Island New York back in 2005. This Chevy was the prior owner's high school car that was stored on his mother's finished concrete floor in her heated garage from approximately 1980 until the trip was made to New York to trailer it back to Wisconsin. The seller's mother wanted her garage back, and the previous owner never found the time to restore it. This Chevelle was last given an inspection in New York that expired on August 16th, 1995 as documented by the windshield decal. The intention was to make this Chevelle into a Yenko convertible. As soon as this car came to town it went right to the mechanics shop. All of the front and rear brakes were completely redone, and the dual exhaust was installed right away. Recently added are the correct 1969 Chevelle chrome tail pipe exhaust tips. The turbo hydromatic 350 transmission was completely rebuilt at the time the brakes were done. The intention was always to drop a nice 427 in this bad boy, but the right one was never found. There is a line on a 427 that is supposed to be completely rebuilt sitting on an engine stand in Muscoda, WI, that came out of a 1966 Corvette. If the new owner would like, we will put them in touch with the gentleman who told us about it. That will be the decision of the next owner if they so desire. The 350 engine may or may not be original to the car, but the last owner was unsure, and neither one of us know how to check Chevy's, nor was it a concern, since the 427 switch was anticipated. This engine does start right up with a new battery, and a new set of AC Delco spark plugs with expensive 8mm high performance Super Stock wires with electronic ignition. The prior owner had lower patch panels put on the fenders, and the doors are both still in good condition. The cowl hood is an original genuine GM steel hood, not an aftermarket fiberglass hood. The rockers are also nice, and so is the trunk lid. New rear quarter panels were recently professionally installed, so all of the hard work is done. The body was gone over with a dual action sander followed by the application of two coats of primer. The drivers floor has a small patch, and the passenger floor has an even smaller patch. The rest of the floors are in very good original condition. The original trunk floor is amazingly solid, and the frame is in really nice shape. I believe the reason the undercarriage held up so well was due to the way this car was always garage kept for all those years, and that it was factory undercoated as shown in a picture. There is a set of four raised white lettered B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A steel belted radials with nice tread mounted on the Chevrolet Rally wheels with all four bolt on SS center caps, and all four beauty trim rings. The trunk pan was coated with AC Delco black and aqua spatter spray to make it appear factory correct, and a new trunk mat was placed on top of the trunk floor. There is a nicely detailed original jack and crow bar with a full size B.F. Goodrich full size spare tire on a matching wheel. The bumper portion of the jack even has 1969 Chevelle stamped on it. Should there ever be a mishap, having the proper equipment you can be back on the road cruising in minutes looking complete. About three years ago a new white convertible top was installed with the black glass window option. This car has never been driven except to and from the body shop, so the top was never really used. The dash pad has several cracks, so a new dash pad will need to be purchased. An original Delco AM radio is in the dash, but not hooked up. This Chevelle originally had a red bench seat interior, but it was switched over to the white bucket seats, and the console with the horseshoe shifter as shown in the pictures. The bucket seats and the back seat are all in very nice condition, and were purchased from another muscle car enthusiast that gave up on his convertible restoration. The male front seat belts are missing, and the passenger rear window is not completely on the track. The other windows do roll up and down as they should. The gas pedal was missing, but a replacement is included. The black carpet is newer with the extra padding, and was installed when the bucket seats were mounted. The column shift is still hooked up until the winning bidder hooks up the floor shifter linkage. This is a relatively simple transformation that can be done within a few hours. A small hole needs to be cut in the hump on the floor, and a floor shifter cable just needs to be hooked up to the transmission. We will supply a shifter cable with the horseshoe shifter, and console. This is a much better look in these convertible's than a bench seat. There is a brand new triple plated chrome front bumper, and all four new wheel opening moldings were installed last week. Both rear tail light chrome bezels with new gaskets were also just installed. We've both seen non-numbers matching 69 Chevelle hardtops bring in excess of $60,000 simply cloned as a Yenko, but this Chevy would also make an awesome Super Sport. This Chevelle came out of the factory ordered new in triple red. That is a very rare combination, but the way this Chevelle is set-up it will be the choice of the winning bidder to paint this convertible any color their heart desires, and to make this Chevelle into a Super Sport or Yenko of their dreams. Basically, everything should be gone through on this sweet Chevelle to complete the restoration, but we believe all of the hard work has been done.  The registration was placed in my partner's name in 2011, so the title is open, clean, and clear from the state of Wisconsin in his name. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide that anyone can look up on-line has the 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Convertible with a 350 engine, and the Super Sport package valued at $98,310 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $60,610 in average condition, which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! They have the lowest condition value at $31,755 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car. Naturally this model is not that exact model, but with the Yenko striping package we personally believe this rare gem is very capable of reaching those type of prices, furthermore if the new owner were to place a 427 cubic inch engine under the hood, we think this droptop could reach 6 figures if done to Barrett-Jackson standards. The numbers don't lie! This Convertible is a very valuable automobile! These Chevelle convertibles have consistently shown to escalate in value with each quarter. Whether you had one as a youth and would like to recapture that glory or you just want to drive around a bank account, this may be the droptop you've been dreaming of. If you really want to make yourself one spectacular looking convertible be prepared to be the spectacle of the neighborhood. Everywhere you drive these cars people are attracted to them like a magnet. These cars are getting harder and harder to come across. Why pay the inflated prices like those listed above when you can own the same looking car for a reasonable amount of money?? No one will know that this car is not an authentic Yenko except the new owner and us. We're not telling anyone!! Yes, we do know they never made a Yenko Convertible. We're fairly certain that the Yenko Chevelle's, Camaro's, and Nova's were all hardtops. This is a prime opportunity to own a piece of muscle car history at a fraction of that price. A great deal of time, money, and effort went into preparing the car shown in this description. What you see is exactly what you get! A complete set of white Yenko stripes are included in this auction. When we write a description we try to describe all of the pertinent information, so any potential bidder can make the most informed decision possible before placing their bid. If there is anything else you feel we may have missed, please ask me any question you like. we both pride ourselves in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. This cool All-American classic muscle car convertible is being offered at "No Reserve" on a quick 3-day auction that ends on Sunday at 8pm Eastern time, 7pm Central time, and 5pm Pacific time. The new owner can be painting this Chevy by next weekend!! Thank You for taking the time to view our auction! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!

What if the mid-engine Corvette is really a Cadillac?

Tue, Jun 28 2016

Call me crazy, but I'm not convinced the mid-engine Corvette is the next Corvette. The rumor is strong, yes. And, contrary to some of the comments on our site, Car and Driver - leader of the mid-engine Corvette speculation brigade - has a pretty good record predicting future models. But it's another comment that got me thinking: or maybe it's a Cadillac. There is clearly something mid-engine going on at GM, and I think it makes sense for the car to be a Cadillac. First off, check out how sweet the 2002 Cadillac Cien concept car still looks in the photo above. Second, there are too many holes in the mid-engine Corvette theory. There are too many holes in the mid-engine Corvette theory. The C7 is relatively young in Corvette years, starting production almost three years ago as a 2014 model. Showing a 2019 model at the 2018 North American International Auto Show would kill sales of a strong-selling car before its time. Not to mention it would only mean a short run for the Grand Sport, which was the best-selling version of the previous generation. More stuff doesn't add up. Mid-engine cars are, in general, more expensive. Moving the Vette upmarket leaves a void that the Camaro does not fill. There's not much overlap between Camaro and Corvette customers. Corvette owners are older and enjoy features like a big trunk that holds golf clubs. Mid-engine means less trunk space and alienating a happy, loyal buyer. Also, more than 60 years of history. The Corvette is an icon along the likes of the Porsche 911 and Ford Mustang. I'm not sure the car-buying public wants a Corvette that abandons all previous conventions. And big changes bring uncertainty - I don't think GM would make such a risky bet. Chevrolet could build a mid-engine ZR1, you might say, and keep the other Corvettes front-engine. Yes they could, and it would cost a ton of money. And they still need to fund development of that front-engine car. I highly doubt the corporate accountants would go for that. But a Cadillac? Totally. Cadillac is in the middle of a brand repositioning. GM is throwing money at this effort. A mid-engine halo car is the just the splash the brand needs to shake off the ghosts of Fleetwoods past. And it's already in Cadillac President Johan De Nysschen's playbook. He was in charge of Audi's North America arm when the R8 came out. A Caddy sports car priced above $100,000 isn't that unreasonable when you can already price a CTS-V in that range.

Final C6 Corvette built in Bowling Green

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

With all of the attention given to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray lately, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's already well along in production, yet tooling up for the new C7 has only just begun. In fact, production of the outgoing C6 generation in Bowling Green, Kentucky just halted on Thursday.
As the C6 has aged, production numbers have predictably ebbed along with demand, but this year, the addition of the 427 and 60th anniversary models resulted in an uptick in vehicles built - this, despite a model year shortened by around 25 percent to accomodate the new model changeover. The final C6 Corvette ever, No. 13,466 built this year, was a white 427 Convertible destined for the General Motors Heritage Center museum. The car's 7.0-liter V8 heart was assembled by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter himself.
In total, Bowling Green pushed out 215,100 C6 Corvettes over nine years. If you're still a C6 fan at heart and are hoping to get a good deal on a phase-out model, step lively - Chevrolet reportedly had about 6,100 unsold units, which Autoweek suggests is good for around five and a half months of supply at the model's current sales rates. Given that demand will likely slacken even further as the C7 draws closer, that should be a big enough stockpile to keep dealers satisfied until 2014 Stingrays begin showing up on their forecourts in December.

Peter Max staring down $1M lawsuit over Corvette collection sale

Wed, Dec 17 2014

Pop artist Peter Max recently sold off his collection of 36 vintage Chevrolet Corvettes – one each from 1953 to 1989 – for an undisclosed amount. The new owners have already announced plans to restore some of them and auction the models off sometime soon. Up until then, the sports cars had been languishing in various garages around New York City for decades and were caked in dust and grime. However, Max's end of the transaction has just become more complicated, because two men are suing the artist claiming he employed them to complete the deal first. The men allege that Max hired them to broker the sale of the 36 Corvettes in exchange for a 10-percent commission, according to the New York Post. They claim to have emails and text messages proving the existence of the deal, and are taking Max to court for $1 million over the squabble. The collection of Corvettes was amassed in 1989 as part of a prize package from the television network VH1, and Max bought the cars from the winner intending on using them for an art project. He never got around to it, though, and parked the sports cars around New York, until he finally sold them over the summer.
